Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Late Afternoon

Some more rumors and news for you.

*-> Yan Stastny of the Vancouver Canucks has bolted overseas to the KHL. He signed a 1 year deal with CSKA Moscow today.

*-> Andreas Thuresson of the Nashville Predators has resigned with the club. The deal is reportedly worth 600K$ for 1 year and is a two way deal.

*-> The Calgary Flames are extremely close to resigning defenseman Ian White to a long term deal. The Flames are expected to announce the signing before Thursday. They qaulified White yesterday along with Henrik Karlsson, Mathew Keetley, Gord Baldwin, Matt Pelech, Kris Chucko, JD Watt and Brett Sutter. I'll have more on the RFA situation later tonight.

Scoopz,

Cheechoo officially bought out. There goes my plan to get Souray at a more reasonable price.

Souray isn't a perfect option, but I have no confidence we can get a quality dman other than via trade. Like Kovy, I also liked the fact it was only a two year proposition, about the right amount of time for us to remold the D with Phillips, Karlsson, and the prospects (Wiercioche, Cowen and Runblad).

Now I think the best option with any chance of success is a Sutton resigning.

Jalen,

You dont see us having any chance of Signing MM's brother? Blood is thicker than water and I bet Milan is whispering (without tampering of course :p) into his brother ear about coming to play for the Sens.

Mack,

I was intrigued by the possibility of finally getting a true hammer to play the point on the power play. The vision of Souray's one-time blasts of sweet cross-ice feeds from Spezz or King Erik was very enticing.

MM's brother Z would also be a very nice addition, an excellent replacement for the dearly departed Volchi. However, I don't see much offense from him and, without a sniper like Dany "I'm Dany f*cking" Heatley, I think we need a hammer on the point to make the power play go.

I'm also not as confident that Z will want to sign in Ottawa as some people, I don't have the impression the brothers are that close. In international play, including the Olympics, they didn't even room together. That said, we definitely have a chance to sign him.

I'll be happy as long as Murray gets a legitimate top 4, and not one named Gonch who I think is wearing down badly and would be a misktake on a three-year deal.

I'm thinking Karlsson might eventually be that hammer... he had a bullett at 165 lbs, should only get better as he fills out. True, he won't win any hardest shot competitions at his size, but could still have 1998-2007 Alfie type power/accuracy combo back there...

Jalen, you've seen more of Cowen than I have... what is his shot like? From his brief appearance last year and his WJC performance, I can't see him ever being on our #1 PP. Weircioch on the other hand has the same size... possible left side with KK?

Rundblad, depending on how he turns out, could provide a lethal PP partner with Karlsson, since both are right shots, and one of the two would always be open for the one-timer...
