Trade! Montreal -> Atlanta

*-> The Montreal Canadiens have traded Brett Festerling to the Atlanta Thrashers for Drew MacIntyre.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> It looks like the Toronto Maple Leafs have only made the John Mitchell deal today.

Trade! Columbus -> New York Rangers

*-> Tom Sestito has been traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets to the New York Rangers for Greg Moore and Michel Chaput.

Trade! Calgary -> Atlanta

*-> The Calgary Flames have traded their 7th round draft pick to the Atlanta Thrashers for Frederick Modin.

Trade! -> Vancouver -> Florida

The Canucks have traded Evan Oberg and a 3rd round draft pick to Florida for Chris Higgins.

Trade! Anaheim -> Vancouver

*-> The Vancouver Canucks have traded a 3rd round draft pick and Joel Perrault to the Anaheim Ducks for Maxim Lapierre.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> Anaheim has traded Maxim Lapierre to the Vancouver Canucks for Joel Perrault.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> You can cross Brad Richards off any trade rumors as the Dallas Stars have told the media he still is a member of the Dallas Stars as of 3pm.

*-> Freddy Modin of the Atlanta Thrashers has been traded it's reported.

Trade! Washington -> New Jersey

*-> Jason Arnott has waived his no trade clause to goto the Washington Capitals, David Steckel is reportedly part of the package.

**Update It does appear that David Steckel is the return, still not final yet.

Trade! New York Rangers -> Toronto

*-> The New York Rangers have traded for John Mitchell of the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 7th round draft pick.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> The Liles situation appears to be with Columbus but one person has told Buffalo still thinks there it so watch.

*-> The Anaheim Ducks tried to trade Maxim Lapierre this afternoon, it's reported to clear up space for Zenon Konopka. The Konopka bidding has appear to have stalled to the point where the Islanders may not shop him.

*-> There is a deal on the table for Jason Arnott apparently there's an internal argument between the upper management and the coaching staff about trading him. The window appears to be slipping.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> I'm hearing that Colorado has talked to John-Michael Liles in the last 5 minutes about being traded, rumor has it the deals going down very shortly.

*-> The San Jose Sharks have said they are 100% today.

*-> The Canadiens have called the Oilers about a possible deal in the past hour, it's not believed to be about Penner. Some are saying Jim Vandermeer or Zach Stortini.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> So does this mean a panic move by teams in the Wild Wild West? Or does this mean that teams around the league bidding for Dustin Penner before he was traded will panic and make a deal. I'm hearing the Wild are looking at deals still but Nashville remains the team to watch. They are pushing deals hard, I'm hearing most prospects are in play if the deal can secure them an elite player.

*-> The New York Rangers are still talking with Dallas about Brad Richards. The Rangers are hoping that Dallas starts to worry as the deadline nears and drops their asking price to just a roster player and 1 prospect.

*-> Jason Arnott remains the one name I'm hearing consistently in play, he's been rumored all afternoon and could be the next guy to go. The Washington Capitals have been confirmed to have been talking to the Devils.

*-> There's still something going on between Montreal and Florida I'm hearing. It doesn't appear to be Weiss?

*-> Marty Reasoner is expected to go soon as most of his bidders also have dropped out besides Vancouver at this point.

*-> The Pittsburgh Penguins are rumored to be working on something as less than 20 minutes remain.

Trade! Los Angeles -> Edmonton

*-> Dustin Penner has been traded to the Los Angeles Kings for Colton Teubert and a 1st rounder and a 3rd it's believed.

**Update up thats the deal except that the 3rd round pick is a conditional pick in 2012.

Trade! Anaheim -> St. Louis

*-> **Update Brad Winchester has been traded to the Anaheim Ducks from St. Louis. It looks like a 3rd round draft pick has been sent back the Blues way.

Trade! Ottawa -> Chicago

*-> The Ottawa Senators have traded Chris Campoli to Chicago for a minor leaguer and a draft pick according to Bob McKenzie of TSN. Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun was correct the return from Chicago is a 2nd rounder and Ryan Potulny of the Hawks.

**Update a conditional 7th rounder is also going Chicago's way.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> TSN is reporting that a deal could be close for the Chicago Blackhawks and their defenseman search. Bob McKenzie has also reported that Ottawa could be very close to moving Chris Campoli so their could be a fit there. I've also heard that Campoli is likely on the move.

*-> I'm hearing that the Washington Capitals could be very close to bringing Jason Arnott off the New Jersey Devils.

*-> Cory Schnieder is not available, the Vancouver Canucks have said.

*-> Dustin Penner appears to be the hottest ticket today as multiple teams have been bidding all day long. The Penguins now are also mixing it up for Penner. Minnesota, Montreal, Los Angeles, Nashville and Toronto have all been rumored. Toronto however I'm hearing is now out.

Trade! Carolina -> Florida

*-> Sergei Samsonov has been traded to the Florida Panthers for Bryan Allen.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> New Jersey goaltender Johan Hedburg is not being shopped the veteran goalie is expected to stay put and resign with the Devils in the near future.

*-> The New Jersey Devils are still fielding deals for Jason Arnott, it's been reported that there's 3 teams mainly interested.

*-> Peter Cheirelli told TSN that he was likely done dealing today unless it's a minor tweak.

*-> The Nashville Ryan Ellis deal for Clarke McArthur appears just to be a rumors as predicted but however I've heard that Ryan Ellis was offered to Edmonton for ether Ladislav Smid, Dustin Penner or Ales Hemsky I've heard all three names in various forms of this rumor but the main part is that the Oilers arn't too hot on Ellis.

Trade! Edmonton -> Colorado

*-> Shawn Belle has been traded from the Edmonton Oilers to Colorado Avalanche for Kevin Montgomery.

At least it's a deal folks on this slow slow Trade Deadline day.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> I've just heard that the Vancouver Canucks are out of the Zenon Konopka bidding, as it's reported there's "nothing left to discuss". The Islanders have reportedly priced themselves out of most teams price range for a roleplayer and Anaheim still remains the only main bidder at the current time.

*-> The Columbus Blue Jackets might be done dealing after their Scottie Upshall / Sami Lepisto deal. I'ts being reported that there's nothing in their price range currently.

*-> Dustin Penner is now gaining interest from the Carolina Hurricanes.

*-> The reports about Stephen Weiss not waiving his no trade clause to anywhere but Toronto is false according to sources.

*-> The Chicago Blackhawks are still defenseman shopping, Steve Montador is what they really want but also have talked to the Isle about Radek Martinek.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> A major deal out of Toronto I'm hearing rumored. Toronto has reportedly talked to the Nashville Predators about Clarke McArthur and Nashville is dangling prospect Ryan Ellis. Nashville is ready to part with serious prospects for an "elite" offensive player.

*-> Ottawa and Montreal have looked at the possibility of a Chris Neil deal. Ottawa is asking for a prospect in return or a 2nd rounder still.

*-> The Montreal Dustin Penner rumors continue.....

*-> Ron Wilson of the San Jose Sharks has said nothing major is going to happen with the San Jose Sharks today but centers and defensemen are in theory what every team in the league is asking about.

Trade! Phoenix -> Columbus

The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded Radislav Kesla to the Phoenix Coyotes for Scottie Upshall and Sami Lepisto.

Great deal Columbus. I'm wondering if the Blue Jackets will settle with Sami Lepisto as their highly sought after puck moving defenseman however.

**Update Dane Byers was also sent to the Coyotes as well.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> The Montreal Canadiens are speaking with the Edmonton Oilers in regards to Dustin Penner. The Oilers are asking for a lot which the Canadiens are not willing to part with. I'm hearing the Oilers may want Yannick Webber as well as a 1st for Dustin Penner.

*-> San Jose is up to something, there's reports of a trade before 3pm.

*-> Jason Arnott has not been told of any major interest towards him thus far reports have said.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> Chicago has talked to the Colorado Avalance about Matt Hunwick.

*-> Various reports out of Florida is that David Booth is refusing to waive his no trade clause. The Panthers have had several bites but Booth isn't interested in leaving Florida.

*-> Marty Reasoner is probably one of the most sought after players this deadline. Lots of teams wanting Reasoner for a run. Vancouver's still the leaders.

*-> No new news on Zenon Konopka to Anaheim, it's believed they lead this chase for a role player but the Islanders want to get the best possible deal so their feeling out all their options.

*-> TSN has reported that Joe Niewendyk is not going to budge on his asking price of Brad Richards. It's not expected any teams will meet his demands especially since he only will deal to the East and Richards holds a no trade and besides he doesn't have to trade Richards as he has expressed lots of interest in staying in Dallas.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> Teams are calling the Calgary Flames in regards to Curtis Glenncross but he's telling them that Glenncross isn't available.

*-> While with Calgary, I've heard that they did kick the tires on Jason Arnott this morning.

*-> My Sens source shot me a text saying "Not the only thing on the go, don't worry soon" in reference to the Ottawa Senators claiming Curtis McElhinney. hopefully I can get him to expand on what is actually on the go.

*-> The Blackhawks are looking at defensemen still, they want Steve Montador but he might not be available as Buffalo is sending mixed messages.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

It's a slow start this deadline, slower than the last few deadlines, even the chatter is at an all time low. Hopefully this afternoon the trades pick up but we did see some serious activity up until last night so most teams maybe content with what they have now. I'm also hearing that the asking prices this year are ridiculous compared to other years.

*-> The rumors that Tim Connolly isn't being shopped keep popping up. The Connolly situation appears to be murky now, as Brad Boyes has really confused the situation. The Sabres are even rumored to be seriously thinking they can make another addition and try for a playoff run.

*-> That being said I did hear the Vancouver Canucks have inquired about Mike Grier.

*-> TSN has reported Brad Richards agent has said he has not been asked to waive his no trade clause yet nor has he even been asked what teams he would consider. So it's just a tall tale out of New York saying he's ok to waive his no trade clause to the Big Apple. It doesn't mean talks arn't going on however.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> The Calgary Flames have claimed Brett Carson from the Carolina Hurricanes.

*-> The Sens have claimed goaltender Curtis McElhinney off Tampa Bay.

*-> The Thrashers have claimed Robbie Schremp off the Isles.

*-> D.J King of the Washington Capitals, Pascal Leclaire of Ottawa, Tim Stapleton of Atlanta, Nathen Lawson of the Isles, and Ty Conklyn of St. Louis have all cleared waivers.

Trade! Washington -> Florida

*-> TSN has just reported that Dennis Wideman of the Florida Panthers to the Capitals for a 3rd rounder and Jake Hauswirth.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> Good news for our avid follower CA who is always good for a rant everytime I mention Jason Spezza's name. Pierre LeBrun of ESPN has reported that Bryan Murray has said that Jason Spezza is not in play.

*-> The Nashville Predators have big time interest in Ales Hemsky, the Preds are going all in in the talks with Edmonton. The Los Angeles Kings are still interested but the Oilers are pushing for Thomas Hickey and Colten Teubert plus a pick.

*-> TSN is reporting that the Detroit Red Wings and goaltender Jimmy Howard are close to a contract re-signing.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> Brent Johnson is not on the ice for the Pittsburgh Penguins practice this morning but it's expected that it's not due to trade purposes.

*-> Konopka's name is still being pushed to Anaheim, hearing it over and over. The Canucks have apparently put him on the back burners over the second rounder being asked for.

*-> The reports of Tim Connolly not being available are starting to really grow.

*-> Columbus is still working with Colorado for John-Michaels Liles. The Blue Jackets have also called about Radek Martinek of the New York Islanders.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> It looks to be false at this point for the Konopka to the Ducks deal but the Ducks are really really close and it appears the asking price IS a 2nd rounder draft pick. Most sites who have reported the Konopka deal have pulled the rumor down so chalk this one down to being false.TSN just reported that Zenon Konopka himself says he hasn't been traded and expects to practice. It isn't official till the big two report it TSN or ESPN haha.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun is reporting that centerman Nik Antropov has been asked to provide 5 teams he'd except a deal to.

*->

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> The Boston Bruins according to reports are done dealing. They feel confident with their roster at this point many are saying. I have heard that the Bruins may be interested in depth additions still but very very minor at this point.

*-> The Calgary Flames like the rival Edmonton Oilers Jason Strudwick, they do need a depth defenseman and he is available. Calgary will trade to rivals as Steve Staios was delt last deadline to the Flames.

*-> I'm hearing absolutely nothing in terms of goaltending it's very very strange. The San Jose Sharks keep telling the media that they are not looking for a goalie despite all the rumors and the Flyers keep getting rumored as well over and over but already have 3 goalies so unless a team is willing to take Michael Leighton back it's not happening.

*-> The Colorado Avalanche are the only team I've heard this morning that has looked at a goalie, I'm hearing Steve Mason out of Columbus is interesting. Some are saying maybe for John-Michael Liles?

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> The Sens are reportedly asking for a 2nd rounder draft pick for Chris Neil. I'm hearing Bryan Murray is pretty happy with keeping Neil on the Sens but if he can get a high 2nd rounder draft pick then that works too.

*-> The New York Rangers are really skeptical about getting a deal done with Dallas for Brad Richards at this point. Their telling people around the league nothing will happen unless the price drops.

*-> The Ladislav Smid to Nashville rumors are persistent, the Preds are reportedly really really high on Smid and need some physical help on the backend.

*-> I'm hearing Pierre Gauthier has inquired about Jason Arnott this morning but is very very hesitant. I'm hearing he doesn't want a rental player unless it's for the bottom six.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> The Los Angeles Kings are pressed to make a move today, it's expected they'll try to land one of the bigger names today. Their really pushing. Tim Connolly has been an option but their looking bigger.

*-> Arnott is bringing in lots of interest. The Penguins somehow have interest in the big center now.

*-> The Washington Capitals are being told that Alexander Semin could be had for the right deal. Washington is trying to add a big center and some consistent offensive help for Alexander Ovechkin.

Trade! Atlanta -> Florida

*-> Radek Dvorak has been traded to the Atlanta Thrashers from the Florida Panthers for Patrick Rissmiller and Niclas Bergfors.

**Update it looks like a 5th rounder is also thrown in for Atlanta

***Update it's Carolina's 5th rounder pick FYI

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> Mark Stuart has resigned with Atlanta, 5.1 million over 3 years.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> The Oilers are in serious talks still with the Minnesota Wild, the Wild remain the leader for Dustin Penner. Oilers are asking for a 1st round draft pick. The Canadiens kicked tires as well.

*-> I'm hearing the Oilers are also willing to part with Linus Omark as their unsure if he'll take off this summer and use his opt out clause.

*-> The Montreal Canadiens have denied trying to trade Andrei Kostitsyn to the Nashville Predators.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> The Washington Capitals are adding bodies today I'm told.

*-. The Capitals are not shopping Evgeni Kuznetsov despite recent rumors and news of him wanting to stay in the KHL for another season. The Capitals wish to be patient with him and respect his decision that he's not ready for the NHL and another year of seasoning in the "K" would be good for him.

*-> Another name many have floated out there is Brayden Schenn but the Los Angeles would have to get a MAJOR player in return for him. They love his upside and not interested in parting with with him.

*-> The Ottawa Senators have had multiple inquiries about Chris Neil, many teams are still concerned about his status however. I've heard the Canadiens, Ducks, Thrashers and New York Rangers are all somewhat interested.

*-> The Rangers are telling the Stars they want a signed contract before trying to deal away any kind of major future such as Anisimov.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> TSN has reported that Mark Stuart of the Atlanta Thrashers is not available as a 3 year deal is in the works currently. The Thrashers would like to keep him now but I'm now hearing the Thrashers are seriously shopping Johnny Oduya as the interest has been great. Some have reported that Ron Hainsey is available and some teams have inquired.

*-> The Ducks are now in on Zenon Konopka now, many are reporting Vancouver as well which should rain on the Panthers parade.

*-> While on Marty Reasoner the Flyers have called.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> Randy Jones of the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Carolina Hurricanes is apparently close people are saying right now.

*-> The Los Angeles Kings have just resigned Justin Williams to a 4 year deal worth 14.6 million overall TSN has reported.

*-> The Florida Panthers have tried the packaging route with Stephen Weiss and David Booth to attempt to pry move out of teams, not much interest in both salaries plus Weiss still has that no trade clause.

*-> The Panthers have also reportedly had contract talks with Marty Reasoner yesterday but both parties came to the conclusion he could be dealt as a rental then possibly return in the summer. Nothing yet on Vancouver, still quiet but it is still early in the West.

*-> Radek Dvorak is apparently being dealt today according to Florida media sources.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> Even more Brad Richards talk, the Tampa Bay Lightning could be seriously interested. Steve Yzerman does not wanna part with any future prospects or picks but would be open to looking at several guys on the roster and a longshot prospect.

*-> Zenon Konoptka of the New York Islanders is getting lots of calls. Chicago and the Canucks are the two obvious candidates to consider but what about the Canadiens?

*-> Nashville has inquired about Ladislav Smid, but Chicago still the runner at this point but anything can happen trade deadline day.

*-> Stephen Weiss is rumored to not wanting to waive his no trade clause to just any team, the Toronto Maple Leafs appear to be a destination he's ok with. Talks last week did definitely happen between the Leafs and Panthers.

*-> Teams continue to call about Zach Bogosian but it's going to take a mega offer that's way over most teams heads. The Thrashers continue to tell teams they want a 1st plus a roster defenseman now and a equal defensive prospect in return.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

I added a link to a Trade Deadline Chatroom for everyone watching live or just passing through to discuss any possible rumors and deals today. It's in the link category on the side panel of the side.

*-> The Toronto Maple Leafs have balked at the asking price of John-Michael Liles in Colorado. Apparently the Aves are asking for a 1st rounder for John-Michael Liles. Last year the Aves would have been lucky to get a 6th one source has said.

*-> Busy day for my Sens source today but he has promised to keep me in the fold through-out the day. For Everyones information last night it was he who tipped me off to the Chris Phillips signing that beat most media outlets last night so hopefully he can bring some more news for Sens fans throughout the day.

*-> More on the Brad Richards situation, the Dallas Stars are only looking to Eastern Conference teams. Richards is apparently "warm" on going to the Rangers. The Toronto Maple Leafs do not wish to trade for him.

*-> Lots of contradicting reports have Tim Connolly not leaving the Sabres. Reports are saying the Sabres wish to keep Connolly and another member of the Sabres could be on the move. I'm not buying those rumors, Boyes was brought in to replace Connolly. Great player but given his injury woes and his UFA status I believe Buffalo management wants a fresh start.

*-> Nick Kypreos has reported the Montreal Canadiens were looking at former Canadien Chris Higgins as a possible addition till he got injured.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> The Dallas Stars and the New York Rangers are still talking Brad Richards, I'm hearing talks could resume this morning. The Rangers have an offer on the table with Artem Anisimov, and Matt Gilroy plus picks but the Stars reportedly want more.

*-> Jason Arnott has told Devils management to attempt to shop him and he'll see if he's interested based on the teams out there. that's an interesting storyline now has Jason Arnott has incredible experience and still has a lot to bring many teams like Montreal, Washington and Los Angeles.

*-> Radek Martinek is expected to be on the move today, many have confirmed the Islanders have offered him up this past week. The Vancouver Canucks have surprisingly been linked (sarcasm BTW).

*-> The Carolina Hurricanes are being very cautious today. They still have high playoff hopes but do not wish to lose several key players to free agency in the summer. The Canes would like to keep Joni Pitkanen but contract discussion has not gone well it's said. To make matters worse the Canes need him for any kind of drive so right now he's not available unless they can bring in another similiar defenseman first.

*-> As for Erik Cole the Flyers were extremely high on him before they picked up Versteeg, I bet the Canes wish they took that offer. It's said the Flyers still have interest but how many offensive forwards can they really bring in?

Trade Deadline 2011: Top 10 Players To Be Traded

Here's a list of the Top 10 players I think could be dealt by 3pm today.

10. Radek Dvorak - Florida Panthers

9. J.S Giguere - Toronto Maple Leafs

8. Ladislav Smid - Edmonton Oilers

7. Stephen Weiss - Florida Panthers

6. Dustin Penner - Edmonton Oilers

5. Chris Campoli - Ottawa Senators

4. Radek Martinek - New York Islanders

3. John-Michael Liles - Colorado Avalanche

2. Marty Reasoner - Florida Panthers

1. Tim Connolly - Buffalo Sabres

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> The Toronto Maple Leafs will enter one last contract discussion this morning with Clarke McArthur it's said. If the contract isn't looking close the Leafs will lean to selling him by 3pm. Brian Burke has also said he's open to trading him even if a contract has been signed, but it all depends on how good the deal is. McArthur has said he would like to remain with the Leafs. The Nashville PRedators have reportedly kicked the tires.

*-> Adam Foote is leaning towards retirement and retiring as an Avalanche rather than accept a trade for a cup run. He has however been in this situation in the past and took a trade. The Flyers are still looking at him as are the Washington Capitals.

*-> The Washington Capitals have kicked the tires on Andy McDonald of the St. Louis Blues.

*-> Mark Stuart is reportedly the player that the Atlanta Thrashers plan on flipping. The Chicago Blackhawks are once again looking at Stuart to help with their backend.

*-> The New Jersey Devils will not fire sell this deadline but will add by subtraction. The Devils will shop any spare parts but are expecting players than can help now rather than later.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

*-> The Colorado Avalanche are insisting that center Paul Stastny is not available nor has he ever been.

*-> Brad Richards has reportedly turned down an offer from the Stars this weekend with issues with the term. Richards reportedly wants this to be a lengthy contract but that stars arn't able to to commit right now. Richards is on the table it's said but the offer has to be extremely major for the Stars too move him. They want a NHL top 6 center in return plus a packaged of picks and prospects.

*-> Tim Connolly's name is beginning to appear once again and it's only 7am.

*-> The Calgary Flames are going into today with the must make at least one move mind set. The Flames would like to add a depth forward and depth defenseman for the run. Don't be surprised if there's a lot of action the West and the Flames stay put GM Feaster has said. He won't shop any up coming UFA's unless he gets someone equal plus more back in return.

Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline

It's all quiet on the trade front right now after activity was buzzing till the early hours last night. Trade deadline usually starts like this most years however. Here's a few rumors to start todays Deadline Day off.

*-> J.P Dumont has yet to be asked to waive his no trade clause by the Nashville Predators GM Poile told the media this morning. There is no truth he claims to the Dumont to Montreal rumors.

*-> Ladislav Smid is attracting lots of interest but the word is the Oilers are asking for way too much for him too right now. He remain one of the defensemem the Toronto Maple Leafs have been scouting. The Hawks are right in there.

*-> The Detroit Red Wings are still content to not make any moves today according to Ken Holland.

*-> The Columbus Blue Jackets will attempt to land a pucking moving defenseman but are still looking for a player whose under contract for next season. Sergei Gonchar and John-Michael Liles are been linked to the Jackets.

*-> The Florida Panthers are expected to be the biggest seller today.

Ice Scoopz: Sunday Late Night Part 2

Sorry everyone I had to break this post up because I got word that a trade was in the air and it turns out those rumors were true as Brad Boyes just got dealt to the Sabres.

*-> The Boyes deal should mean that Tim Connolly is on the move, the Sabres may play it smart and wait till tomorrow to shop Connolly as theirs not many qaulity centers on the market. I'm still hearing that the Caps are number one in the running. I wouldn't be surprised however if Los Angeles is also deep in the mix. The darkhorse in the West for Connolly I believe is Minnesota.

*-> Brett Clark of the Tampa Bay Lightning is in play if the Bolts can get a piece of the puzzle back.

*-> Atlanta is desperate to make a deal to put them back in contention, lots and lots of rumblings. There's even talk of a "recently acquired player" being flipped for another. Wheeler? Stuart? Maxwell?

*-> Reports have the Dallas Stars holding ground with Brad Richards, it's looking like unless it's a blockbuster they don't want to make a move. Richards has shown intention he wants to win with Dallas and remain with the club. Do they take that slight risk he changes his mind however?

*-> Vyacheslav Voinov is being dangled in LA. The Kings are shopping the Russian blueliner in hopes of landing that pivot they've been seeking since last season. The Edmonton Oilers may have interest if more is offered.

*-> Speaking of Edmonton, Rick Dudley has said he'd be open to possibly trading Zach Bogosian if he got an player that can help him right now and a equal prospect for the future. Ales Hemsky apparently fits the player who can help now Dudley was rumored to have said. Would the Oilers be willing to lower there asking price and raise the return back? The Thrashers have been rumored to be possibly in the hunt as of today for Dustin Penner today as well.

*-> The Nashville Predators are also looking at Dustin Penner to add some more firepower to their club in case Sergei Kostitsyn tails off.

*-> Florida is reportedly asking for an arm and a leg for Marty Reasoner, the Canucks are confirmed to be in on Reasoner but don't want to pay the asking price. Talks stalled but expected to start again tomorrow.

*-> A little update on the John Michael Liles situation. John Michael Liles will most likely be traded tomorrow it appears as it's been confirmed he's handed in his list of teams that he wont accept a deal to. Reports have also confirmed that Buffalo is on the 12 teams he's willing to go. Columbus is still pitching offers not sure if Columbus is on the list on not. One has to wonder if the Toronto Maple Leafs are on it as well?

I can tell it's going to be a long night, then very long day tomorrow for me. I'm scared to goto sleep because the hockey world is buzzing right now and still lots of rumors to chase. I'm also currently trying to get a chatroom up and running on Ice Scoopz for the Deadline but may stick with the Forum as I'm having problems with Blogger tonight.

Trade! Buffalo -> St. Louis

*-> The St. Louis Blues have traded Brad Boyes to the Buffalo Sabres for a 2nd round pick in 2011.

It looks like pieces are starting to come into place as the Sabres have essentially replaced Tim Connolly late tonight. This should spell the end to those Paul Stastny rumors to Buffalo and start stirring the Tim Connolly rumors back up.

Ice Scoopz: Sunday Night

I've got a few bed time rumors for everyone before tomorrows big day. Remember Ice Scoopz hits the air at 7am Eastern time tomorrow so tune in for all the action. Live rumors and updates by the minute all day long starting with a the Scoopz list of whose possibly out there and my top 10 potential trade candidates.

*-> The Columbus Blue Jackets have reportedly talked to the Colorado Avalanche about John Michael Liles. Another source has said on the flipside it could be for Stastny. The Jackets want to make a move that can help them in the future not just for the deadline. Nikita Filatov could be packaged in any deal going back to Colorado.

*-> The J.P Dumont rumors to Montreal could have truth behind it as media reports out of Montreal has Dumont candidly saying he'd be ok with waiving his no trade clause. Dumont was also a healthy scratch this afternoon against the Blue Jackets. Many close to the Montreal organization are still heavily doubting this rumor.

*-> The Blackhawks are looking at Jay McClement of the Colorado Avalanche for a defensive specialist for the playoffs.

*-> The New Jersey Devils won this afternoon keeping their playoff hopes alive but no word yet on Jason Arnott. Still rumors spinning involving Arnott heading to the Habs and Caps. It appears though that the Caps are looking at Tim Connolly of the Sabre's as their primary option at this point.

Ice Scoopz; Phillips Re-Signs

*-> The Ottawa Senators and Chris Phillips have come to terms tonight to a 3 year deal, I'm hearing it's worth 10 million overall. More to come

**Update It's 9.25 million a season TSN is reporting.

I'm not too excited about this one for the Sens as Phillips could have eased the rebuild by bringing in a high pick but the Sens now have a dressing room guy and mentor for the young cast. The one thing that doesn't add up Sens fans is how are any of these young prospect able to possibly break in next season with Lee, Phillips, Gonchar, Kuba, Carkner, and Karlsson all under contract for next season and Campoli as an RFA? Someones gotta go to make room for one of the future stars so can we count on a Sens defenseman being shopped? I'd say so.

Trade! Boston -> Anaheim

*-> The Anaheim Ducks have made a minor league deal today with the Boston Bruins. The Bruins sent tough guy Brian McGratton and Sean Zimmerman to the Ducks for David Laliberte and Stephane Chaput.

Nothing major here just two teams swapping non roster players to shore up affiliates. A pretty equal trade although McGratton is the most likely out of the 4 that could see NHL ice time.

Ice Scoopz: Sunday Afternoon

*-> Mike Grier is attracting interest from the Tampa Bay Lightning.

*-> Buffalo could also be preparing a major package for Paul Stastny reports are saying. The Sabre's new ownership looks to make a major splash this deadline to signify a new era.

*-> Chris Neil from the Ottawa Senators has slight interest from around the league. Due to his recent injuries Neil's interest has dropped but the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, and the Atlanta Thrashers.

*-> The Washington Capitals are pushing hard for center Tim Connolly of the Buffalo Sabres.

*-> John Madden to the Canucks is a no go, reports had the defensive specialist going to the Canucks but their in extremely close talks with the Panthers and a deal is said to be almost done.

*-> Jason Arnott's fate is getting decided this afternoon. It's said a loss this afternoon could mean the end for Arnott in New Jersey. Although he does have a no trade clause but if he doesn't fit into the future it's expected the Devils will ask him nicely.

*-> A recent reports has the Canadiens in talks with the Panthers about Radek Dvorak.

*-> Speaking of no trade clauses it's being said that Chris Phillips fate has already been decided as the lastest offer has been rejected. Phillips is expected to counter offer tonight but my source is saying that Murray is listening to offers from around the league.

*-> Chris Campoli is indeed being shopped by the Sens, not much interest in Filip Kuba now that New York is out of the running.

*-> Milan Hejduk could be close to a new contract.

*-> Radek Martinek of the New York Islanders is getting attention from several Western Conference teams. The Dallas Stars are even believed to be considering the longtime Islander. Many have said the Nashville Predators have also inquired.

*-> The Brad Richards to New York Rangers trade appears to be evolving as now I'm hearing Evgeni Grachev, Artem Anisimov, Matt Gilroy and a pick.

*-> Zach Bogosian's name keeps getting rumored to Edmonton in a deal involving Ales Hemsky.

Ice Scoopz: Sunday Morning

*-> Toronto is still working hard for John Michael Liles, the Leafs wanna get a deal done sooner than later. The Colorado Avalanche are still deciding where or not they wish to keep Liles in the fold however. Liles also holds a limited no trade clause which only allows him to select 18 teams he wouldn't accept a trade to.

*-> Vancouver and Marty Reasoner could be happening soon. The Panthers and Canucks are in talks.

*-> A major rumor out of New York has Evgeni Grachev, Michael Del Zotto and a 3rd round draft pick for Brad Richards of the Dallas Stars. I'm hearing it's most likely false. Darren Dreger is reporting that the Stars are now leaning towards keeping Richards.

*-> The Dustin Penner rumors to Minnesota is gainging grounds once again. Many are saying that Chuck Kobasew is part of the offer being put together as well as the Wilds 1st round pick in next years draft. The Edmonton Oilers are requesting this years 1st round pick instead however.

Ice Scoopz: Saturday Afternoon

Lots more waivers this afternoon in preperations for Monday

*-> Rob Schremp and Nate Lawson were waived by the New York Islanders.

*-> The Washington Capitals waived D.J King this afternoon.

*-> The Anaheim Ducks have waived Jason Jaffrey.

*-> Tim Stapleton has been waived by the Atlanta Thrashers.

*-> Carolina Hurricanes have waived Brett Carlson.

*-> The Tampa Bay Lightning have strangely waived Curtis McElhinney.

Trade! Florida -> New York

*-> The deal is finally done for Bryan McCabe to the New York Rangers. The Rangers traded Tim Kennedy and a 3rd round draft pick to the Panthers for the veteran blueliner.

Ice Scoopz: Saturday Afternoon

A crazy day for waiver claims as every player waiver yesterday have been claimed.

*-> Craig Rivet who was waived by the Buffalo Sabre's on re-entry waivers was claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

*-> the Washington Capitals claimed Marco Sturm off the Los Angeles Kings.

*-> Nick Boynton was also claimed off waivers by the Flyers off the Blackhawks.

*-> Ty Conklyn has been placed on waivers by the St. Louis Blues. Ben Bishops shut oiut last night may have sealed Conklyns fate. It's expected that several teams may take a look at Conklyn. One being the Detroit Red Wings who are familiar with Conklyn. The Toronto Maple Leafs also may have interest as they may look at a deal involving Jonas Gustafsson once again.

*-> Pascal LeClaire has also been placed on waivers by the Ottawa Senators he's expected to clear.

*-> Bob McKenzie of TSN is reporting that Brent Seabrook and the Chicago Blackhawks are extremely close to getting a deal done in the ballpark of 5 years at 30 million overall. I heard whispers and reported several weeks ago that an offer was made to Seabrooks camp by the Hawks and with McKenzie confirming it's close Hawks fans should be excited and the Seabrook rumors should end.

*-> I'm hearing that as of 1pm today that Bryan McCabe has waived his no trade clause for the New York Rangers. While there is no deal in place yet and nothing is final, the Rangers and the Panthers are expected to iron out the details shortly. I'm hearing by 5pm tonight s the Rangers want him in the lineup as soon as possible. I've heard that Matt Gilroy and Evgeny Grachev could be prominent components of a deal. There's still timew for other teams to jump in and try and poach McCabe that being said.

*-> I'm hearing that there's something going on concerning Tomas Vokoun as well in Florida. the longtime rumors have the Flyers interested but are they actually?

*-> Chris Phillips has reportedly counter offered the Senators offer from last night this morning and both parties are trying to decide what to do next. It's believed that Murray may have had a change of heart and is willing to talk a bit longer. Nothing is agreed on so far not term or amount.

*-> The Vancouver Canucks have kicked the tires again about Ottawa's Brian Lee. It's still believed they think highly of Jason Strudwick of the Oilers as their depth addition.

*-> ESPN is reporting that the Zach Bogosian rumors to Detroit are false but he could be moving shortly. I haven't heard much on these ones so this is a rumor I'll have to dig deeper on.

*-> Brad Richards camp has reportedly offered the Dallas Stars a 1 year deal this past week which they refused. This could mean Richards is attracting some big time offers or that Joey Neiwendyk wants to lock Richards up for a while.

*->

Ice Scoopz: Saturday Morning

*-> The Carolina Hurricanes are seriously interested in Chuck Kobasew of the Minnesota Wild. The Canes would love to have the 20 goal scorer Kobasew once was.

*-> The Vancouver Canucks have indeed contacted the Florida Panthers about trading for center Marty Reasoner.

*-> The Philadelphia Flyers have inquired about Colorado's Adam Foote.

*-> The Toronto Maple Leafs have serious interest in Florida's Stephen Weiss and are willing to part with one of their first round draft picks for him.

*-> I'm hearing Jason Strudwick of the Edmonton Oilers is attracting interest from around the league.

*-> No word on the Ottawa Chris Phillips situation yet, it's believed he will try and counter the offer that was put forth last night by GM Murray.

That's it for now, more in an hour.

Friday, February 25, 2011

Ice Scoopz: Friday Evening

A few quick dinner time rumors for all those Ice Scoopz followers

*-> The Edmonton Oilers could be close to pulling the trigger on a deal with Minnesota. It's reported both parties have discussed a possible deal involving Dustin Penner. The Wild would love to add Penner for their playoff push but are struggling to deal away salary cap first. It's believed the Oilers would get a quality defensive prospect in return. The Wild are shopping Chuck Kobasew and Jose Theodore to rid themselves of some cap hit.

*-> Toronto could be in on the Dustin Penner bidding as rumors swirl in Toronto now that the Leafs have two first round draft picks.

*-> The Edmonton Oilers are also pushing Ladislav Smid around the league. Brian Burke is said to have him on his list of potential defensemen the Leafs are interested in. Remember there is a history behind Smid and Burke as Burke had him in Anaheim.

*-> The Chris Phillips internal debate could almost be over with the Sens as GM Murray offered Phillips and his agent a fresh contract this afternoon. It's said Phillips will take tonight to think about it and make his decesion. Murray is said to have told Phillips that this is the only offer he's going to put on the table if not he might have to move on and accept a trade.

*-> J.P Dumont to Montreal rumors have resurfaced today as the Canadiens look to add help up front after adding to their backend. I'm not sure if Dumont is what the Canadiens want and need, they'd be more interested in a powerforward with offense or a skill offensive player not a player with a 4 million cap hit whose production has died.

*-> The Blackhawks do indeed have interest in Craig Rivet I've heard. Some are saying it's Mike Commodore...

Ice Scoopz: Friday Afternoon

Some more waiver activity as expected today.

*-> Steve Bernier of the Florida Panthers has cleared waivers.

*-> Mike Smith of Tampa has also cleared reentry waivers today.

*-> Kris Newbury of the New York Rangers, Nick Boynton of the Chicago Blackhawks, Wade Belak of the Nashville Predators and Todd Ford of the Washington Capitals have all been placed on waivers according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.

*-> The Los Angeles Kings have waived forward Marco Sturm this morning, will someone take a flyer on Sturm?

*-> The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed Mike Commodore on re-entry waivers with hopes someone will claim him and get him his wish to leave Columbus.

*-> Rumors have Brad Boyes being looked at by the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals. Rumor has it Toronto also has taken a look at Boyes. I doubt the Penguins will bring in another contract but Shero has said another move could be in the cards for the Pens. However that move is rumored to be a blueliner for depth but don't count the Pens out of anything. The Capitals might be a good fit as they need a center badly and have yet to make a move to help their club get back on track.

*-> The Calgary Flames are rumored to have made a claim for Craig Rivet I'm hearing.

*-> The New York Rangers and the Columbus Blue Jackets are both fighting over the same two players it's being said. The New York Rangers are pushing hard for Bryan McCabe with Sergei Gonchar reported to be plan B while the Blue Jackets are working towards a deal for Sergei Gonchar with Bryan McCabe as their backup plan. The Buffalo Sabres also have interest in McCabe it's said.

*-> Prospect Kirill Petrov is talking contract with the New York Islanders.

More in a bit as we get ready for a crazy weekend leading up to the deadline as I'm sure there will be a flurry of pre deadline day moves. Remember coverage starts Monday at 7am on Ice Scoopz. I'll be updating everything and anything I hear all day with complete trade coverage. Tune in for all the action.

Trade! Nashville -> Florida

*-> Nashville has dealt Alexander Sulzer to the Florida Panthers for a conditonal draft pick.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

*-> The Colorado Avalanche are starting to get calls from around the league in regards to defenseman Adam Foote. It's believed the Flyers and the Penguins both have interest in the veteran defenseman.

*-> The Chicago Blackhawks are scouting the Edmonton Oilers, it's believed that the Hawks want to add Jim Vandermeer to shore up their blueline as they've been looking for a gritty shut down defenseman for a while. Some are also saying Ladislav Smid could also be their target.

*-> Craig Rivet has been placed on re-entry waivers by the Buffalo Sabre's. According to reports several teams had interest the first time around but his salary was unsettling for someone they want to use as a last pairing guy. The Flyers, Hawks and Sharks all have been linked.

*-> The Calgary Flames are looking at options as they near the deadline. It's said the Flames GM Jay Feaster would love to add another defenseman and a depth forward but is happy not doing anything because his club has played so well and doesn't want to ruin chemistry.

*-> TSN's Darren Dreger is reporting that multiple teams have approached the Toronto Maple Leafs about Clarke McArthur. It's said McArthur is asking over 3 million a season for 3 years while the Leafs are only willing to go over 2 for 2. A wild rumor out of Toronto has several offers greater than the Kris Versteeg deal on the table for the breakout year player.

*-> Jason Arnott will sit down with the Devils brass in the next couple of days to decide if he's willing to waive his no trade clause or if he'll stay with the club as they try to push for a playoff spot. The Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals would love for his to agree to waive his no trade.

*-> Somethings still up with Nikolay Zherdev, could possibly be re-entry waivers in the next couple of days or a loan. The winger is reportedly unhappy with his recent situation.

Ice Scoopz: Top 10 Free Agents Deadline 2010-2011

Top 10 Left Over Free Agents For 2010-2011

10. D Brendan Witt
If any teams are looking for a tough shut down defender Brendan Witt fits the bill. Once a highly touted physical stay at home defenseman, he has struggled to find a team as the new rules have slowed him down drastically. Witt still could offer grit, toughness, no nonsense leadership and is still willing to drop the mitts. Witt's last gig however was last season for Bridgeport of the AHL before the Isles bought him out.

9. G Rob Zepp
Many teams have sent their scouts to Germany to watch Rob Zepp the former 4th (99th and then 110th overall) draft pick in 1999 and 2001 for the Thrashers and the Hurricanes. Zepp has attracted attention from his recent play overseas where he has played extremely well for Eisbären Berlin of the DEL. While I'm not about to rule out a signing this season it is very unlikely as he would have to clear waivers because he played in Europe this season. After the post season would be more likely.

8. RW Jonthan Cheechoo
The once Rocket Richard winning winger has struggled since winning the prestige trophy. Cheechoo has been on a steady decline since his 2005-06 season and has struggled to even find work around the league. Cheechoo was cut from the Dallas Stars camp this season and the season before bought out from his contract by the Ottawa Senators. He has been playing pretty decent since then and has had some interest as he's managed 45 points in 52 games for the Worcester Sharks of the AHL. Cheechoo may be able to add a cheap offensive lift for a team desperately seeking depth.

6. C Wayne Primeau
Last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs failed to gain him any attention during the off season. A quality 4th line center that can handle a regular shift and also play the penalty kill. He is an unrestricted free agent and hasn't played all season long so how game shape would he be at this point in the season.

7. D Jay McKee
A highly touted shot blocking defensive blueliner, McKee played his best hockey with the Buffalo Sabres but was brought in last season by the Pittsburgh Penguins to help shut down the opposition and make another run at the Stanley Cup. After suffering an injury 5 games into the post season Jay McKee and no major interest this offseason quietly disappeared into the night. He's currently volunteering as the assistant coach for the Niagra Purple Eagles hockey team but as told the media recently he hasn't ruled out a return to the NHL.

6. C Robert Lang
Lang is at the final stages of his career but after playing with the Phoenix Coyotes last season he show he still has a little left in the tank. He can still score but no longer at will and the speed of the game has caught up to him. Lang hasn't officially retired yet but this post season could be his last chance. He hasn't played this season so he would come waiver free.

4. LW Slava Kozlov
The aging Slava Kozlov is still a creative player with talent to offer any team looking for a cheap offensive fix. Kozlov had interest this summer from around the league before taking a money offer from CSKA Moscow of the KHL. CSKA Moscow failed to make the KHL playoffs therefore Kozlov is a free agent and may be willing to return to North America to help a playoff bound team. He also may prefer to stay in Russia for more money than any team is willing to offer the 38 year old who put up 27 points in 44 games in the KHL.

3. D Kim Johnsson
Defensive defenseman Kim Johnsson played quietly last season for the Chicago Blackhawks before suffering a concussion. He took the first half of the season off to recover and was slowly forgotten. He technically was on the Chicago Stanley Cup winning team but due to injury didn't play in the playoffs or play 40 regular season games so his name isn't engraved on the Cup but recent reports have Johnsson cleared to play and looking to sign on with an NHL team to get his name on the Cup finally.

2. RW Owen Nolan
Gritty veteran with loads of leadership ability. Nolan is currently playing in Europe for Zurich where he's still showing he can play the game with 26 points in 24 games with 54 penalty minutes. He has an NHL opt out clause and has been eager to return to the league for one last shot at the cup. He would however have to clear waivers as he's in Europe which may scare most teams away due to recent events.

1. LW Paul Kariya
The former Canadian star Kariya is the biggest name still out there but his status is still unclear as is if he'll ever play again after taking time out due to lingering concussion symptoms. Kariya has a respectable season last year with 45 points in 75 games. Kariya could offer a lot to a team looking for some secondary scoring and a veteran presence....if Kariya is full healthy and willing to return to play this season.

Honorable Mentions:
LW Kyle Calder
RW Shean Donovan
RW Richard Park
G Manny Legace
LW/C Dean McAmmond

Anybody missing? If anyone has any extra free agents to add to this list feel free to post in the comments field. I'd love to see who your lists of guys to be subtracted or added to this list of free agents. Remember this is just a quick list of whos still out there and not the full list. I didn't include most European free agents as it's very unlikely teams would make a pitch this time or year due to waivers and besides that's top 10 for another day!

Trade! Florida -> Carolina

*-> The Florida Panthers have traded Cory Stillman to the Carolina Hurricanes for Ryan Carter and a 5th round pick in 2011.

Trade! Montreal -> Atlanta

*-> The Montreal Canadiens have traded Ben Maxwell and a 4th round draft pick to the Atlanta Thrashers for Nigel Dawes and Brent Sopel.

The Atlanta Thrashers did a great job dumping some salary this afternoon shedding the often scratched Brent Sopel and Nigel Dawes who is currently in the minors for a decent offensive prospect and a 4th round pick. The Canadiens needed a shut down defenseman with the wave of injuries to their blueline this season but probably could have done the deal with out giving up the pick or taking back Dawes in my opinion.

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Afternoon

*-> The Ottawa Senators have claimed Marek Svatos off waivers today off Nashville Predators.

*-> Craig Rivet of the Buffalo Sabres has cleared waivers as also Nikolay Zherdev, and Ales Kotalik as well.

*-> The Florida Panthers have waived Steve Bernier this morning.

*-> Tampa Bay have placed goaltender Mike Smith on reentry waivers.

Trade! Ottawa -> Pittsburgh

*-> Ottawa has traded Alexei Kovalev to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 7th round draft pick.

Looks like all though rumors were right about the Penguins being interested in former Penguin star Alexei Kovalev despite many doubting them. I did however believe the Sens could get at least a 4th round draft pick if the Sens held on to him till the deadline and pushed him to a desperate team. Murray appears to be happy just clearing the dead weight off the roster at this point. It looks like the Penguins are now officially out of the bidding for Ales Hemsky.

Trade! Anaheim -> Tampa Bay

*-> GM Bob Murray must know something more about Jonas Hiller as a day after telling the media he would not be looking at another goalie he went out and made a deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning traded Dan Ellis to the Anaheim Ducks for backup goalie Curtis McElhinney.

Not surprising that the Ducks went out and got a goalie despite Murrays words yesterday. Hiller could be on the shelf for quite some time and now with the addition of Dan Ellis the Ducks have a little insurance rather than rely on a career backup and a recovering Ray Emery. That being said for the Ducks, it must have been a cap clearing move.

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Morning

*-> The Nashville Predators are looking to add some blueline depth and Ladislav Smid of the Edmonton Oilers keeps appearing in the Nashville rumor mill.

*-> An Ales Hemsky Washington Capital rumor is making it's rounds. The asking price from Edmonton from what I'm hearing could be John Carlson based plus a heavy contract back. I've also heard rumors as reported this week of an Alexander Semin for Hemsky swap. The Capitals have lost star center Niklas Backstrom for only a short period of time so no need for the Caps to pull a panic move yet.

*-> The Tampa Bay Lightning have been scouting the Ottawa Senators for the past few games, word around the league is that they could be interested in winger Chris Neil. Neil suffered an undisclosed injury last night so I'm not too sure how that will effect his trade value going into the deadline.

*-> The Toronto Maple Leafs who were rumored to have interest in the recently waived Nikolay Zherdev are not actually interested many are saying. The Leafs were mainly linked to the underachieving Zherdev due to their streaky offense but I'm not too sure Brian Burke wishes to add an even more streaky player.

*-> I'm hearing big time rumors that the Tampa Bay Lightning would love to bring in Brad Richards and could be preparing a large offer for the Dallas Stars to bring back the Lightning's former star. Richards has a no trade clause and it's believed the Bolts is still his favorite city he's played in. The Carolina Hurricanes have interest as well but are reported to be wanting to be able to discuss a contract extension before making a deal. The New York Rangers are also still looking at Brad Richards but many are saying that it the Stars want Marc Staal in return someone the Rangers do not wish to part with. Toronto is also rumored still but it appears Brian Burke would rather wait till the summer to see what happens before trading away more of his teams future for a possible rental.

*-> Paul Stastny's agent Matt Keator has denied reports that the young Colorado Avalanche star wants out of Denver. Does the franchise still feel the same way about both father and son publicly roaster the organization?

*-> The Vancouver Canucks have interest in Marty Reasoner to shore up their bottom six lineup. Mike Gillis has said he does not wish to move a roster player as team chemistry is good. Sergei Shirokov could be shopped as the Russian winger is having a hard time breaking on to the Canucks roster after an impressive camp last year. Gillis is also rumored to be wanting a depth defenseman and is rumored to want just a last pairing d-man with a light cap hit. The Canucks are not in on Phillips despite recent reports it's believed.

*-> A rumor which has the Canadiens looking at Bryan McCabe is starting to heat up.

More rumors in a few hours, plus a top 10 free agents still out there this season.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

Lots of waiver activity this afternoon which means something could be up around the league.

*-> The Calgary Flames have placed winger Ales Kotalik on re-entry waivers this afternoon, it's expected that Kotalik will clear and be loaned overseas. Not many teams showed interest the first time around in Kotalik so not much is expected to change.

*-> The Nashville predators have placed sniper Marek Svatos on waivers, he might spark a little interest as he was snatched from the St. Louis Blues the 1st time around. Could the Blues go for a revenge claim.

*-> The Flyers have also waived their incosistent European winger Nikolay Zherdev as predicted, this comes with a presumed possible move in the near future for the Flyers. Several teams have expressed interest in Zherdev, it was rumored several days ago that up to 6 teams were looking at Zherdev. Some are saying the Atlanta Thrasher and or the Toronto Maple Leafs both have had interest.

*-> The Sabre's have surprisingly placed Craig Rivet on waivers also. A strange move by the Sabre's and I'd be shocked if he goes unclaimed. Many teams are looking for some veteran experience and Rivet fits the bill. The Chicago Blackhawks may be interested as were the San Jose Sharks and the Montreal Canadiens. This may mean the Sabre's could be preparing to take some cap back the other way in a future trade. John Michael Liles? Alexander Semin?

*-> The Boston Bruins have signed Shane Hnidy to a try-out contact. Hnidy a former Bruin is a current free agent while the Bruins look to get a depth defenseman.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Noon

*-> Growing rumors have Paul Stastny joining his father in displeasure with the direction the Colorado Avalanche have taken by trading away Chris Stewart and Kevin Shattenkirk. Both Stastny's are rumored to be bitter with the deal and have question what the Ave's were thinking when they pulled the trigger on that deal. Many are believing that the Aves are shopping Stastny, I'm not quite buying it yet but if the rumors of Paul joining his father in anger, it could make Stastny expendable and make an ugly situation go away quietly. The Toronto Maple Leafs have been rumored as well as the Edmonton Oilers who is rumored to be offering a package of ether Andrew Colgiano and Dustin Penner or Ales Hemsky.

*-> Brad Richards could possibly be avaliable according to a recent report by TSN's Darren Dreger. While the Stars arn't shopping the star center it's believed that they have been listening to offers. If their playoff hopes continue to slip it's expected if negotiations faulter the Star could try and shop him. The New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Los Angeles Kings all highly covet Richards. It's still a very longshot at this point but could be a possibility if the Stars arn't going anywhere with the talks before the deadline.

*-> Ottawa's Filip Kuba has presented GM Murray his list of 10 teams he'd accept a trade to. Kuba's limited no movement clause has a 10 team "wish list" stipulation where Kuba is forced to provide a list of 10 willing teams he'd accept a deal to. New York is still the only team I'm hearing interested in Kuba so hopefully he likes the bright lights of the Big Apple for the Sens sake.

*-> Chris Phillips was reportedly pulled away from practice by GM Brian Murray but only to just check up on Chris Phillips status and his willingness to remain a Senator. It's believed that Murray have multiple deals on the table but won't trade Phillips if he keeps pushing that he'd like to remain a Senator. Negotiations are expected to start Thursday and if they go badly and both sides cant come to a reasonable deal then Phillips will be told it's time to move on and asked to waive his clause. Murray's ideal wish would be to have Phillips waive his no trade clause for the good of the team then start negiotions this summer as a free agent but Phillips wishes both sides remain loyal with each other.

*-> Last Ottawa tidbit for now, the Sens are in contract talks with prospect Jakob Silfverberg of Brynas after a recent scouting trip.

*-> Chicago could be now looking at Jim Vandermeer as possible cheap defense option

*-> The Washington Capitals are scouting the Edmonton Oilers, it's believed they could be interested in Ales Hemsky to boost their offense. The Caps scouts were seen watching the Minnesota/Edmonton game.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Morning

A busy morning already this morning but the rumors are starting off slow but everytime I say that a series of trades seam to go down. Here's a couple of quick ones while on the go.

*-> I'm still hearing a lot about Tim Connolly, it seams a deal at this point is more likely than not. Many teams are interested in Connolly and it now appears the Pheonix Coyotes are also interested. From what I hear the team and new owner Pergula while have a "get to know each other" dinner Thursday evening so any deals may have to wait till Pergula and Regier have a sit down.

*-> A wild one out of Phoenix has the Yotes interested in Montreals Scott Gomez. This one doesn't make sense to me as I've only heard that the Coyotes are interested in a dollar for dollar deal and with the Coyotes in the playoff mix why would they give up one of their better guys for an underacheiver that has shown no potential to turn his game around?

*-> Still no waiving of Bryan McCabe's no trade clause so nothing new on that front yet.

*-> However, the Florida Panthers management has told the players that anybody on the roster could be moved. "It's that time of year" management has said. Many of the Panthers such as Cory Stillman, Bryan McCabe, Stephen Weiss and Marty Reasoner have all expressed interest in returning next season to help the Panthers rebuild. Not too sure if that will come into play with Florida management when deciding deals in the up coming week.

*-> The Anaheim Ducks could be interested in Marty Gerber of the Edmonton Oilers as Jonas Hiller is out with concussion like symptons. It's rumored GM Bob Murray is looking to bring in another depth goaltender but will wait and see how serious the Hiller injury is first.

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Evening

*-> Dmitri Orlov has left the KHL to come over and join the Hersey Bears for their run at the Calder Cup. Orlov who played this season for Novokuznetsk Mettalurg of the KHL decided after his team didn't qualify for the playoffs he would start his North American career. Orlov's agent told the media today that his client fully intends on signing a deal with the Washington Capitals to play next season for the club who drafted him 2nd round in the 2009 NHL entry draft.

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Afternoon

*-> A Report this afternoon have a deal almost done between the New York Rangers and the Florida Panthers for defenseman Bryan McCabe. Source close to the Rangers have reported this rumor is false and there's nothing new to report. The Rangers have had their eyes on several defensemen Sergei Gonchar, Filip Kuba and McCabe the past few weeks but reports had talks extremely close with the Panthers. As of 3pm today Bryan McCabe has yet to waive his no movement clause.

*-> I'm hearing Chris Neil and the Rangers could be a fit.

*-> The Montreal media is reporting that defenseman Jaroslav Spacek will miss the remainder of the regular season with the injury he suffered several weeks ago. This could mean Montreal could be back in the hunt for a defenseman as it would leave them with now 3 regulars on the shelf for their backend.

*-> Speaking for defensemen, the Boston Bruins are looking to add a depth veteran defenseman as insurence incase one of their young blueliners falter. They will not pay a heavy price and the deal would have to be cap compliant. Craig Rivet only has 850K left to pay out on his salary so could be an option should the Sabre's decided to shop the soon to be free agent.

*-> Nothing new out of Buffalo except the sale has been finalized and the new owner Mr. Pegula has said he's willing to spend money to get Buffalo back to being a premier team. No word on Tim Connolly or his stance on what to do with UFAs leading up to the post season but it appears the same, only contracts and their not sellers. Minnesota is rumored to now be in the mix for Connolly as Mikko Koivu will miss the remainder of the regular season.

*-> Ray Shero the GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins has told the media another move could be in the cards closer to the deadline. It's expected he'll bring in another forward he said, Alexei Kovalev anyone? Some rumors have the Kovalev talks dating as far back as December but the Pens arn't fully sold on the Russian sniper yet.

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Noon

*-> More and more Tim Connolly rumors, the Los Angeles Kings are rumored to be in on the mix now. The Penguins and Capitals both have serious interest. Around the web it looks like a deal could be happening sooner than later. The word is that once the Buffalo sale goes through officially and the ownership meets with Darcy Regier and his team the Sabre's will start making moves. It's still adding but not subtracting unless it's UFA's they can get equal or better players for.

*-> Bob McKenzie has said that he doubts that the Los Angeles Kings arn't willing to part with Wayne Simmonds or any of their young talent.

*-> The Los Angeles Kings have inquired about Florida's David Booth but the Panthers want an arm and a leg for Booth. Florida is said to be asking for Brayden Schenn. Los Angeles has been scouting Florida for quite some time now but could also be looking at Stephen Weiss.

*-> Bob McKenzie also Twittered that Toronto could be in on defenseman John Michael Liles as their seeking a defensemen or his type. It is rumored that the Aves would love to move Liles and his contract while he's hot. Another name I've heard Toronto to be looking at is Denis Wideman.

*-> Colorado also is reportedly shopping Peter Stastny according to rumors. I'm not buying into these rumors however, I can't see Stastny being shopped especially with his contract.

*-> The Philly Flyers are to reported to have up to 6 teams interested in Nikolay Zherdev. The Flyers appear hesistent to deal him unless they can get a better replacement.

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Morning

*-> The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for another defenseman GM Brian Burke told the media yesterday afternoon. He said he'd like to bring in another body after trading longtime Leaf and blueliner Tomas Kaberle before the trade deadeline. He also said he had several offers on the table to bring in some forwards but right now he's focused on bring in help for the backend only. He also went on to say several teams have made big offers on Luke Schenn but he wasn't biting on any as he said Luke is untouchable and although the offers were good he's not going to trade him. Burke is reportedly shopping the 3rd round pick from the Philly deal for the defenseman of his chosing. It's expected he'll go after a contracted player rather than a rental. Radislav Kesla from Columbus has been rumored.

*-> I'm hearing that Jonas Gustafsson is being shopped once again now that he's heathly and ready for work now that it appears he's recovered. The Isles may not have interest anymore as Al Montoya has shown he's quite capable given the chance.

*-> Brian Burke has also said that early this week he'll know whether or not Clarke McArthur will be retained by the Leafs or shopped at the deadline. McArthur is due a raise but Burke is reportedly being extremely stiff on the asking price. It's said that McArthur is asking for a major jump in salary but Burke only feels the player has had one good season and doesn't warrent a big raise. Burke cited the fact he gets to play with two great linemates he has chemistry with and gets to play in an awesome city as a reason Mcarthur might drop his asking price. I guess we'll know in a couple of days whether or not Mcarthur will be wearing the Blue and White next season.

*-> Tim Connolly's name is out there again this morning, I keep hearing multiple teams are interested including and surprisingly the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Monday, February 21, 2011

Ice Scoopz: Monday Afternoon

*-> The Calgary Flames have placed Niklas Hagman on waivers today, many are saying this could be a step towards the Flames making a deal for a major playoff push.

*-> The Washington Capitals are looking hard at Tim Connolly it's reported. The Capitals are desperate to add any kind of jump to their team and need a second line center badly. I'm hearing the Capitals are talking with the Sabres big time as the Caps are also interested in Craig Rivet. I'm hearing Alexander Semin is also on the Sabre's list and with new ownership the team is looking to make a splash. Darcy Regier has also said he's not looking for any kind of rental player but a player who would be under contract for next season and would be open to shopping potential UFA's to better his club for a playoff push and for next season. This all makes sense, and that's a move I can see both parties interested in especially if Buffalo can sweeten the deal by tweaking it a little for Washington.

*-> While on the Sabre's I'm still hearing the Chicago Blackhawks and now the Vancouver Canucks are in on Steve Montador. One has to think if their going to take a playoff run they may want to keep some of their vets.

*-> The reports of Kristian Huselius wanting out of Columbus seams to keep gaining momentum by the day. Reports have Kristian Huselius wanting to be moved after a falling out with the organization after being a healthy skratch last week. Huselius has reportedly told his agent to find him a new home and he would apparently love to return to the Calgary Flames. Goodluck with the Flames unless they can seriously shed some cap and I doubt Jay Feaster would part with any future or picks for Huselius but hey it is a Calgary thing to bring back repeat players over and over. I'm sure several other teams could be interested in Huselius if the Jackets were to shop him.

Trade! Dallas -> Pittsburgh

*-> The Dallas Stars have traded James Neal and defenseman Matt Niskanen to the Pittsburgh Penguins for defenseman Alex Goligoski.

*-> The Stars needed a powerplay quarterback and mobile puck mover from the point and that's exactly what they go with Goligoski but they took a hit by losing one of their offensive catalysts in James Neal and it maybe comeback to haunt the over achieving Dallas Stars. The Penguins get a competent winger for Crosby and some help while they get healthy. I give the edge to the Pens.

Ice Scoopz: Monday Noon

I hope everyone was excited to see the Heritage Classic last night between the Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames. I happened to miss most of it unfortunately but caught the replay this morning. I like the idea of the outdoor games it adds a new exciting element to the season. I've been hearing recent talk of adding another 3 to 6 outdoor games through out the season but personally I feel that might take away the shine of an outdoor game. No need to over do it maybe 1 more tops, I know the NHL makes a ton of money on it but if they push too hard their going to loose the thrill and brilliance of it within a couple seasons. They should push the alumni games that happen before the actual game a bit more along with the outdoor game instead of treating them like a secondary side show. I don't know about all of you but watching some of those guys play brings back incredible memories from my childhood. It was good to see my childhood hockey idols such as Kirk Muller, Brian Skrudland, Theo Fleury and Al McInnis back in a uniform and playing the game that made them famous. Anyways here's a Sens mostly rumor package for this sunny Monday afternoon.

*-> Scouts were once again watching Alexei Kovalev Saturday night, it's believed he could be the next Senator moved. It's no secret that Bryan Murray would love to move the enigmatic Russian for anything but the interest has been at an all time low. It appears that Kovalev is trying to play himself out of Ottawa with a string of quality games recently. Some are saying Murray is patiently waiting while Kovalev's stock increases and then push for a trade at the deadline when teams are panicking trying to match the moves rival clubs have made. The Penguins have been linked since the Evgeni Malkin injury to Kovalev as he played his best hockey in the Burgh while also co-owner Mario Lemieux is also a fan of Kovalev's talents and remembers him fondly from his playing time with the Russian sniper. The Montreal Canadiens are also slightly interested in their former hero, this could be mainly due to the fan reaction when he was traded from the Habs. Kovalev would love to retire in a Habs jersey. Another team that has interest is the Nashville Predators who are looking for an extra offensive punch and the feeling is if Kovalev was just let loose in Nashville he could be a real threat.

*-> Chris Phillips has told the Ottawa management he'd be willing to take a bit of a cut to remain in Ottawa. It's now being said the two sides are planning to meet next week to discuss an extension but if the Sens arn't able to move another defenseman that's under contract for next season it won't happen. Murray is pushing Phillips to accept a deal for the better of the team and then possibly return in the summer via free agency. Phillips camp isn't quite sold on the idea. There's still a bevy of teams interested in Phillips and Murray knows a return could be good for the veteran shut down D. The Canadiens were linked to Phillips but it appears their search for a defenseman is now turned to adding a dynamic forward and a gritty offensive center. The Habs could still add a defenseman however. The Capitals and Blackhawks both would love a shut down d-man.

*-> Agitating winger Chris Neil is also being shopped, The Canucks had slight interest earlier on but due to the wave of injuries it's doubtful. It's expected in the next 14 days the interest for Neil will pick-up as a player of his mold is a hot playoff commodity. The Canadiens also have been rumored to be interested in Neil as have the Red Wings and Coyotes.

*-> Sergei Gonchar is still being linked to Columbus, the Jackets love the Russian pointman but the Sens now appear to be leaning to keeping him unless the return is great. Columbus has had talks with the Sens in regards to Gonchar but Murray wanted more from the Jackets. It's believed the Jackets were offering a 2nd and Jakub Voracek. Some have said Nikita Filitov was also a fixture in the trade. The New York Rangers have also inquired about Gonchar but the Rangers arn't willing to give up any future and have been trying to push mid picks and Matt Gillroy back the Sens way.

*-> Yes CA more Jason Spezza rumors, I'm not buying it but I will report it as this is a mainly Ottawa Senator rumor post. ESPN has rumored an offer from the Los Angeles Kings for Jason Spezza does exist. While Murray listed Spezza and an untouchable several weeks ago during and Ottawa/Oilers game when asked last week about his untouchables he said that only Daniel Alfredsson and Erik Karlsson were on that list. He also said however he wasn't just looking to dump bodies the deal had to make sense for his organization going forward and would have to have a team to play with next season. While an offer may have been made I highly doubt that Murray would ditch Spezza as his team wouldn't have any kind of offense to build on for next season plus that would shift Peter Regin into a number one role with the likes of Zach Smith, Jesse Winchester and Corey Locke as the next best centers. It's doesn't make sense for the Sens at all in my opinion. Keeps this one in the nonsense rumor filing folder.

*-> Despite recent rumors it's not believed that the Atlanta Thrashers are actively seeking to deal Zach Bogosian. It is however believed if they came across the right deal Bogosian could be had but the asking price is ridiculous. Some are saying that it's above 2 1st rounders plus a high end prospect. Many feel the Thrashers would part with him if they received an equal defensive prospect in return plus a high pick and a quality defenseman that help them now plus into the future. Over 15 teams have had reported interest in Bogosian but many feel the asking price is way too high.

*-> Sheldon Souray has cleared re-entry waivers once again surprise surprise, the Oilers will keep him in Hersey of the AHL until further notice. It looks like a buyout will be happening in the off season in Edmonton.

Sunday, February 20, 2011

Ice Scoopz: Sunday Afternoon

*-> Doug Wilson has said his San Jose Sharks will not look to find a replacement for injured goaltender Antero Nittymaki. The team is planning to ride Anti Neimi into the post season and has no concerns at the moment with their tandem. Will they have concerns closer to the deadline though?

*-> A wild rumor is coming out of Pittsburgh today which has the Pens trading young defenseman Alex Goligoski to their rivals the Washington Capitals in exchange for the offensive minded Alexander Semin. While it is said the Penguins would part with a little future for some offense I dunno if the Caps would part with Semin for Goligoski as they already have an offensive quarterback from the point in Mike Green. It is true however that the Caps are shopping Semin to see what they can find to spark their ailing club. The Los Angeles Kings have mild interest in Semin but they have been looking at Ales Hemsky and Dustin Penner as of late. The Penguins too have been rumored to be interested in Hemsky but have been stunned by the steep asking price of the Oilers. The Montreal Canadiens are another team that has been looking at Hemsky but won't sacrifice their young talent to do so.

*-> Toronto Maple Leaf scouts were seen last night watching the Edmonton Oilers, it's rumored GM Brian Burke is considering Dustin Penner. Some other sources say that Burke also could be interested in Ladislav Smid.

*-> Joni Pitkanen shouldn't be going anywhere but it's rumored that the Carolina Hurricanes could decide to sell Pitkanen off if they look to be out of the race by February 28th. They also have been rumored to be willing to move the blueliner for a younger prospect but it's expected that Pitkanen would return to Carolina during free agency. If the Cane's were to shop Pitkanen they would do well given the recent wave of NHL defenders who have been traded at high price tags, one has to wonder if the idea has crossed the Carolina managements minds.

*-> The New York Rangers GM Glen Sather has said he might take a look at Sheldon Souray if he were available according to reports out of the Big Apple.

*-> While on the topic of the Rangers it's said the Ranger's are still pushing hard for Bryan McCabe of the Florida Panthers but he isn't sure if he wants to waive his no trade clause. He has already told the media no once and has said he'd prefer to retire in a Panthers uniform. The Rangers haven't been put off by this as it's believed Florida management has told McCabe he most likely wont be resigned. The Rangers however are not willing to part with any high picks or prospects.

Ice Scoopz: Sunday Morning

*-> Sheldon Souray was placed on re-entry waivers again despite a lack of interest from around the league. The word is that GM Steve Tambellini is hoping the latest surge of trades for defensemen might spark a panic and maybe one of the losers in the bidding may take a risk on Souray at half price. The New York Rangers were considering Souray and his big point shot but their scouts left Hersey unimpressed and now it appears the New York Rangers would like ether Sergei Gonchar or Filip Kuba from the Ottawa Senators. The Vancouver Canucks are also looking for a defenseman but unless they can dump cap back the Oilers way but it's said that the Canucks are only looking at bringing in a depth guy for under a million dollars. The Blue Jackets are also looking for a big shot and pucking moving d-man for the PP but they too already have their own disgruntled defenseman in the minors and would be doubtful they'd take a rick and add a second. The Hawks are still looking for a shut down defenseman and it appears they've targeted veteran Steve Montador of the Buffalo Sabres. Dallas can be added to the list of teams looking for an offensive d-man but they have an internal cap to deal with and would be looking at cheap solution as well. The 3 teams I wouldn't rule out however are the Preds, Caps and Leafs.

*-> With the St. Louis Blues now on the outside looking in Brad Boyes's name keeps getting into into the mix. The Blue have clearly become sellers by trading away captain Eric Brewer and also dealing away prized young defender Erik Johnson. Many are wondering who could be next on the Blues to go. Brad Boyes has attracted some interest so far but with many of the big fish dropping so soon his value could go up at the deadline. Any team looking for secondary scoring could take a look at Boyes, not only is he a competent center he can also play the wing. He still has another year on his deal so that too could be a plus as he wouldn't just be a deadline day rental if the team has the cap space to afford Boyes. Back-up Ty Conklin has also been rumored to be available for teams wanting a veteran backup but with some many teams already shopping goaltenders the market is flooded. The Red Wings may be the best candidate for Conklin as they've had a previous relationship but the Wings from what I'm hearing want a goaltender on a two-way deal or doesn't mind being the third man out when Chris Osgood returns.

*-> Last night Pierre LeBrun said that during his discussion with the Aves management they told him Milan Hedjuk although is in a unrestricted free agent will not be moved anywhere.

*-> Jonas Gustafsson is back on the ice practicing so the Toronto Maple Leaf's man hunt for 2 more goalies will not happen. However it's said the Leafs would still like a second goalie for the minors and till Jussi Rynnas is ready to go. The plan seams to be trade Gustafsson as soon as their depth problem is fixed. The Islanders almost had the Monster in a deal till his latest heart setback.

Trade! St. Louis -> Colorado

Luckily I decided to check for any deals one last time before bed and it looks like the Blues have pulled the trigger on a another one.

*-> The St. Louis Blues have shipped out both Jay McClement and Erik Johnson and also a conditional 1st round draft pick to the Colorado Avalanche for Kevin Shattenkirk, Chris Stewart and a conditional 2nd rounder. The conditional 1st round pick depends on if the Blues get a top 10 pick or not in this years draft, if it is a top 10 then the conditional 1st round pick would be transfered to 2012 instead of 2011 and as would Colorado's conditional 2nd they received as well.

The Blues appear to be revamping their blueline once again and I'm not too sure I like this one for the Blues. They do get Kevin Shattenkirk in return so that helps but also giving up their 1st round draft pick ether this year or next year hurts for probably a deal they could have worked around. It appears the Blues are indeed sellers now.

Trade! St. Louis -> Tampa Bay

A late one for you as I was in the process of napping with my phone off before this one decided to happened, thanks Jalen!

*-> The St. Louis Blues have dealt Eric Brewer to the Tampa Bay Lightning after the player waived his no trade clause this evening. The Blues in return get a 3rd round draft pick in 2011 and prospect Brock Beukeboom.

Both teams get a great deal in this one, the Blues get a solid defensive prospect while the Bolts get exactly what they were looking for on the blueline, a shut down defenseman who can log a ton of minutes. I'm a little surprised that the Blues didn't create a bidding war for Brewer close to the deadline but from what I've seen is the Blues decided to work with Brewers number one choice of destination.

Trade! Toronto -> Boston Update!

*-> So the deal is 100% official as Tomas Kaberle is now a Boston Bruin. Sent the other way is prospect Joe Colborne, Boston's 1st round draft pick in 2011 and if Boston is able to sign Kaberle they would send a 2nd round pick to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Trade! San Jose -> Carolina

*-> The San Jose Shark have acquired defenseman Ian White from the Carolina Hurricanes for a 2nd Round Draft pick in 2012.

We knew White was the next to go and San Jose or Chicago were the most likely destinations as previously posted on Ice Scoopz so this should be no surprise to most. More analysis this evening.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Afternoon Update Part 2

Still no word yet on the Tomas Kaberle ordeal or if there's any end in sight. It's been reported that all that's left is to wait for the league to get back to them to finalize the trade. Still not 100% done yet as of 3pm.

Trade! Atlanta -> Boston

*-> The Atlanta Thrashers have traded Boris Valabik and Rich Peverly to the Boston Bruins for defenseman Mark Stuart and Blake Wheeler.

It looks like it's Joe Colborne and the picks headed Toronto's way next followed by possibly Ian White to one of the other bidders, possibly Chicago or San Jose maybe. Not official still in Toronto but more than likely at this point.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Noon update

*-> I'm hearing that once Kaberle goes and if it happens in Boston the Bruins have a deal in place to send Mark Stuart to ether San Jose or Chicago. Ian White is also dependant on the Kaberle deal as both Chicago and San Jose both have interest in White as well. The Jackets are also looking at White.

*-> The Capitals would love Eric Brewer I'm hearing but so would the Canadiens.

It looks like it's going to be a busy afternoon for defensemen!

Trade! Toronto -> Boston

*-> It's not 100% yet but it appears the deal is Boston's first round pick in 2011, prospect Joe Colborne and a conditional 2nd round pick in 2011 dependent on Boston signing Kaberle. This all thanks to TSN's Bob McKenzie who was broken this one for all of us. Remember still not 100% official, I'm still hearing that Boston is still pushing Blake Wheeler instead of Colborne.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Noon

*-> Many are now saying Ottawa could be trying to flip recently acquired goaltender Craig Anderson. Toronto was interested before the Colorado / Ottawa deal that sent Brian Elliot the other way. It doesn't really make sense but if Ottawa can get a pick back then it would be worth it however they would still need a goalie to finish the season with unless they are content with Robin Lehner and Mike Brodeur finishing the season out. However that would leave Bingo of the AHL high and dry in net. Maybe if the rumors are true about Pascal Leclaire returning early this one could work.

*-> Bob McKenzie is reporting that the Boston / Toronto trade for Tomas Kaberle is just about done and should feature Joe Colborne and Boston's 1st round draft pick for this year. I'm still hearing that several teams are in this still, it's going to the wire. I also keep hearing Zach Hamill's name. Blake Wheeler I've also heard being sent Toronto's way with Hamill. Mark Stuart would be moved only if Kaberle was acquired. The Bruins still would need to move cap space I believe so it'll be interesting the next few hours if all this is true.

Trade! Ottawa -> Colorado

*-> The Ottawa Senators have traded Brian Elliot to the Colorado Avalanche for Craig Anderson. Anderson is a UFA while Brian Elliot is still a RFA at seasons end.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

Not much new on the rumor front this morning so far which is very odd but hopefully it'll pick up later on today.

*-> TSN's Bob McKenzie believes today is both the day for Ian White and Tomas Kaberle to get dealt. It's believed theirs up to 4 possible teams looking at Kaberle now but Boston still remains number one. People are saying that it's going to be a domino effect around the league for defense. Boston has several side deals such as the Mark Stuart deal to clear cap but it's all hinging on getting a deal done with Toronto first. GM Chierelli has told the media he has up to 6 other defensemen on his list as well. Nothing new on Ian White, I'm still hearing the Sharks but some are saying Philly which is odd due to cap space.

*-> Atlanta is also looking at defensemen currently so you can add them to the growing amount of teams trying to upgrade their backend.

*-> The San Jose Sharks are reportedly shopping for an inexpensive depth goaltender as Antero Nittymaki is currently injured.

*-> I'm hearing more rumblings out of the Desert this morning. It appears what ever Phoenix was working on could be back on. Some are saying Blake Wheeler's return to the organization might be in the works.

*-> Colorado is now going into seller mode from what I'm hearing with the latest injury to Matt Duchene and the retirement of Peter Forsberg. Milan Hedjuk could be avaliable for a rental at deadline day as well as veteran Adam Foote.

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Late Night

A couple quick updates and rumors before bed.

*-> The Vancouver Canucks GM Mike Gillis has said he is only looking at depth defenseman at this point due to cap space. Nothing major as deadline day approaches.

*-> Brian Burke has once again spoke to the media in regards to the Tomas Kaberle ordeal and has put an end to the almost done Boston rumors. He went on the record to say he is indeed speaking with several other teams even without Kaberle's permission. When he gets to the point where a deal could be had he would then approach Kaberle and his agent about a possible move. He also believes Kaberle would be open to other teams and given the situation and respect between the two he feels the player would be willing to look at other options. He also said Kaberle's agent has yest to present him a list. Nothing is imminent at the moment with the Kaberle situation it appears now. It's still believe the Canadiens, Rangers and Capitals are also looking "Kabby" but the Bruins remain the favorite.

*-> Stephen Weiss has yet to be asked for a list of teams or if he's willing to accept a trade. Nobody from Florida's management has approached him yet. He still states he'd rather remain with the Panthers and help them rebuild but he would be willing to move on if the team asked. That's good news for the many teams interested in Weiss.

*-> A rumors out of Chicago has the Blackhawks trying to acquire Mark Stuart from the Boston Bruins. Many were saying earlier tonight it was a done deal, this is not the case however several writers have ruled out this deal.

*-> Still nothing on the Ian White front but according to Hurricane management there is several teams involved and several offers on the table for the blueliner. Paul Maurice has told the media it's a day by day situation with White. Bob McKenzie has said Vancouver has not spoken to Carolina about White. I'm hearing San Jose is involved in the bidding.

More Tomorrow! Night Folks
