Ice Scoopz: Monday Afternoon

*-> The Florida Panthers have signed Jacob Markstrom to an Entry Level deal. The blue chip goalie of the future played last season for Brynas.

*-> Antte Engren was also signed to an entry level deal with the Nashville Predators today. Engren played last season in the SM Liiga.

*-> The disgruntled Slava Kozlov is rumored to be heading to the KHL at seasons end if he can't land a decent role or pay with a National Hockey League team this summer. CSKA Moscow has shown interest and several Russian news papers are claiming the Atlanta winger will be headed over after being mistreated by the Thrashers last season. I still think he'll try and stick it out one last season. If he's inexpensive I can see a team taking a risk on him as he's still fairly productive in a secondary role.

*-> Will the many coaching changes set to take place this summer some names have been floating around. Guy Boucher of the Montreal Canadians has been approached by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Kevin Dineen is most likely headed to Tampa Bay its said but the Lightning also are reported to have interest as well.

Ice Scoopz: Monday Morning

*-> Detroit Red Wing prospect and 1st round draft pick (27th overall in 2007) Brendan Smith is making headlines again but not for his offensive brand of hockey but for yet another incident that goes against his character. The troubled defenseman has been charged with disorderly conduct after repeatedly punching a house party goer in the face after he tried to enter the house. The Wings just freshly signed Smith Thursday to a 3 year entry level deal after believing he's made progress towards straightening up.

*-> Igor Radulov the brother of Alexander Radulov has signed a deal with Severstal Cherepovets leaving his previous club Metallurg Magnitogorsk, terms of the deal were unannounced.

*-> Matt Ellison who has made a name for himself in the KHL has also signed today. He left club HC MVD for Torpedo Novgorod.

*-> The Boston Bruins and the Edmonton Oilers are talking deal it's reported. The Oilers are unsure whether or not they would rather drafting Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin while the Bruins really want Taylor Hall bad and are willing to throw in a player to sweeten the deal for the Oil. The two names that have come up are Blake Wheeler and Michael Ryder, the latter however I expect to be bought out. This deal makes sense as if the Oilers don't care which player they get then they might as well try to pry another piece of the puzzle out of Boston and trade down.

*-> Petr Sykora of the Minnesota Wild is close to a deal in the KHL with Metallurg Magnitogorsk it's being said. Sykora who was demoted late season to the Houston Aeros by his club after struggling with his play and injuries is expected to wait to see if he can get a 1 year deal first in the NHL.

Thats all for now more soon.

Ice Scoopz; Friday Afternoon

*-> Montreal Canadian and soon to be free agent Glen Metropolit is rumored to be heading back to Europe this summer. Reports have said several Swiss and Russian teams have made offers to the free agent forward. While Glen has said in the past he would consider heading back to Europe one day I believe he still has interest in the NHL. I can't see it happening unless he feels his career is ready to wind down or he is wanting a bigger salary.

*-> Yuri Alexandrov of Severalstal Cherepovets of the KHL has agreed to an entry level contract with the Boston Bruins who he was drafted by.

*-> Roman Josi of Bern HC was also signed today by the Nashville Predators. He was drafted by the Preds in the 2nd round of the 2008 draft.

*-> The Carolina Hurricanes have come to terms with forward Jiri Tlusty. The deal is worth 500K for just one season. It looks like Tlusty will get one more Season with the Canes to prove he belongs.

*-> Nick Petersen of Wakefield Quebec was signed today by the Pittsburgh Penguins who drafted him in the 4th round of the 2009 Entry Draft. Its an entry level deal. Petersen played last season for the St Johns Sea Dogs.

*-> Riku Helanius is reported to be sick of the goaltending situation in Tampa Bay and has reportedly been pursuing a transfer to Sodertalje of the SEL. The Lightning have an abundance of goaltending prospects all fighting for time down in the minors with no real future with the club.Kari Ramo experienced the same fate before bolting to the KHL last season.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

*-> Ken King the president of the Calgary Flames has told the Calgary media that captain Jarome Iginla isn't going anywhere so unless this is a tactic I don't see these rumors being true at all. Why would you trade your heart and soul?

*-> The San Jose Sharks have signed free agent TJ Travelyn to a one year deal. Last season TJ Travelyn played with the Sharks affiliate The Worchester Sharks.

*-> Don Meehan the agent for both Maxim Afinogenov and Colby Armstrong of the Atlanta Thrashers has told the media that his clients status with the Thrashers will be figured out soon. He went on to say that Colby Armstrong will most likely not be a Thrasher next season and will hit the market this summer while Maxim is sitting on a 1 year deal. The deal I've heard is worth 2.7 to 3 million.

*-> The Montreal Canadians have signed free agent defenseman Kyle Klubertanz to a one year deal. Kubertanz was a 3rd round draft pick of the Anaheim Ducks in the 04 draft and played last season for Djurgarden of the SEL.

More this afternoon.

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Afternoon

I'm back after the brief rest and gearing up for the Stanley Cup finals, the Draft and free agency. Thanks to everyone for their condolences and e-mails it helped greatly. I'm back and ready move forward and get back to business once again.

*-> The several KHL teams have actively been pursuing L.A whipping boy Alexander Frolov. There is rumored to be up to at least 3 deals on the table for the Russian winger as he's set to hit free agency this summer and will no doubt leave the Kings organization after being in Lombardi's doghouse all season. TSN is reporting that SKA St. Petersburgs is one team that's after his services meanwhile I've also heard that Avangard OMSK and also Atlant Moscow are also interested. GM Dean Lombardi says he would like to re-sign Frolov but most liekly won't be able to meet his asking price and also knows the KHL is a big threat to likely poach Frolov. Personally I don't believe Frolov will bolt unless he gets a ridiculous offer or no NHL teams meet his demands. I've heard the Montreal Canadiens be mentioning several times due to the Mike Camalleri connection and I've also heard the Flames would also like to add him if they can shed some dead weight up front.

*-> The New York Rangers have confirmed the signing of Norwegian Mats Zuccarello Aasen as previously mentioned on Ice Scoopz. He has led the Swedish Elite League in scoring this season with his club Modo.

A special thanks to CA and Tom for continuing to post news and comment for all of the other followers.

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Late Afternoon

2 Big games tonight, thanks to all those who've sent me links so I'm able to watch.

*-> The New Jersey Devils have signed their 54th pick in last years draft to an entry level deal. Defenseman Eric Gelinas of Chicoutimi of the Q. The Devils have also signed defenseman free agent Dan Kelly of the Kitchener Rangers. Kelly went undrafted and is in his final year in the OHL.

*-> Denis Seidenberg wishes to remain in Boston next season he's told the Boston media this week. Seidenberg was acquired in a deal from the Florida Panthers at the deadline this year. It's rumored that the Bruins would love to keep him in the fold as long as his price is right.

*-> Speaking of former Carolina Hurricane defensemen. Anton Babchuk is extremely close to re-signing with the Carolina Hurricanes after a year in the KHL. Babchuk was just starting to show potential with Hurricanes before a contract dispute and the Hurricanes decided to go in a different direction. It's been report the two partys have both been in contract about a return all season long. This week Jim Rutherford has admitted to be close to a deal.

*-> Detroit Red Wing prospect Tomas Tatar has had a decent World Championship scoring 2 goals and a penalty shot while playing on the 4th line. It's not gone unnoticed as SKA St. Petersberg of the KHL has been rumored to have offered the youngster a high paying deal. St. Petersberg owns Tatars rights as they drafted him 15th overall in the 2009 KHL draft. Red Wings management has said Tatar plans to return the Grand Rapids Griffins next season.

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Afternoon

*-> The Toronto Maple Leafs are very close to signing Czech Republic star free agent Roman Cervenka. Roman Cervenka has listed Toronto and another Canadian city as the two finalists for his services its rumored. The Oilers were originally the other contender its rumored but are no longer interested in him without Jaromir Jagr. It seams Toronto is the place to be if your a European free agent. A few people are still speculating the Ottawa Senators could be the second Canadian team mentioned.

*-> Niklas Backstrom has signed a mega deal with the Washington Capitals. The deal is worth 67$Mil over a decade which equals to 6.7$ a year. The Caps now have their cornerstones locked up for the forseeable future. Great deal for the Caps as Backstrom is only going to get better.

*-> The Buffalo Sabres have re-signed Mike Grier to a one year deal worth 1.4$ mil. The gritty forward earned his new contract in the Boston series it's said.

*-> The Minnesota Wild have signed the AHL's 3rd leading scorer Chad Rau to a 2 year, two way deal. The goal scoring center was a 7th round draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The club has said he'll be given a chance to play on the 2nd line.

Ice Scoopz: Sunday Afternoon

*-> It looks like the Washington Capitols are set to announce the signing of Niklas Backstrom tomorrow as they've scheduled a press conference. Backstrom is expect to earn himself a hefty contract as he had an outstanding season and the Caps would like to lock him up longterm. The deal I'm hearing is 6 mil over 5 years, but I've also heard that it could be up to 10 years as well. We will have to wait this one out to see.

*-> Nikolai Zherdev currently playing in the KHL for Atlant. Zherdevs camp has reportedly been in contact with the New York Rangers about a return. The Rangers were the last club he played for before they walked away from his arbitration. The Rangers are rumored to be only interested if the price was right as they have little to no cap space left but seak offense. The Nashville Predators are also rumored to be interested. I dunno about this one as the Rangers reported him of also having a bad attitude but he could be a steal for cheap just like his fellow countryman Maxim Afinoganov in Atlanta.

*-> All the type surrounded the Ottawa Senators signing Andre Petersson the 2008 NHL Entry Draft pick (109th) can be or may be false. Reports out of Ottawa have the Sens not even close to signing him. Apparently his agent leaked false information to the Swedish press to try and drive up his price in his negotiations with his club HV 71. Tim Murray dismissed this rumor earlier this week saying "don't expect to see him anytime soon". He did however say the Sens were very close to signing 2004 5th round draft pick Roman Wick to a 1 year 2 way deal. The player Wick is reportedly sitting on the offer but expected to sign.

Ice Scoopz: Conference Final Predictions

Before CA sends his request for my Conference Final predictions, I'll get them posted. So far in the first round I was 4 for 8 but in the second round I was 4 for 4. Hopefully I can continue the trend for the finals.

In the matchup for the Eastern Conference between the Montreal Canadiens and the Philadelphia Flyers I think the Canadiens will continue their momentum and take the Flyers in 6. I think the Habs have that goaltending strength and belief in the system by each member of the team. The Habs all have bought into Jacques Martin coaching and they've been playing a strong team game while the Flyers are ether hot or cold. The Flyers also have only come off a win against a lowly Boston squad while Montreal beat what was expected to be the top 2 contenders in the East. Also the Flyers have had the same offensive woes the Habs have had but have a 3rd tier goaltender most of the playoffs.

In the Western Conference its going to be a lot tougher series as both teams in my opinion are fairly close. While I like both teams I'm going to say the San Jose Sharks in 7. I like the Sharks because they have that urgency and veteran poise it takes to win. Not many teams can dominate the Detroit Red Wings like that. The Sharks also have the edge in net with Evgeni Nabokov. The Sharks also have the veteran experience throughout their lineup while the Blackhawks are still a young growing team. The inexperience might come back to haunt the Hawks. This being said all this depends on Jumbo Joe Thornton and whether him and Dany Heatley can connect and or even show up. The Sharks are due despite the Hawks being ready for a historic run for the city of Chitown in the next few years.

Ice Scoopz: Saturday Night

I've just finished reading the Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie's book "Hockey Dad" and it was actually pretty decent. It was a very enjoyable read but wasn't quite what I had expected. I knew going in it was going to be about his sons Shawn and Mike McKenzie (Mike just recently signed a try out deal with the Albany River Rats)but I really didn't expect the book to dig so deep into the McKenzie familys lives. It helped put a lot of the stories into perspective but I was left feeling like there could have been more hockey related stories. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the book a lot but I was under the impression that it would feature a lot more "crazy hockey dad" stories than a handful. I did appreciate Bob McKenzie allowing us to look into his life and allowing a laugh or two at his expense while at the same time not promoting himself or TSN. He kept the book quite modest and many of the names dropped in the book were just to show the readers the calibre of hockey being played. If you ever have been involved with minor hockey or want a look in its the perfect book but if your going into it expecting to be blowing away by wild stories or an insiders secrets on minor hockey its not for you. I'd give it 4 stars as I enjoyed it because in the very short time I've been involved on the bench with minor hockey, I can see these stories Bob tells unfolding. They really could happen to any coach, parent or child.

On to the news!

*-> The New Jersey Devils have signed their 2008 NHL Entry Draft pick Mattias Tedenby and their 2009 Entry Draft pick Jacob Josefson to 3 year entry level deals. Josefson payed last season for Djugardins of the Swedish Elite League while fellow countryman Mattias Tedenby played HV71 also of the SEL. Great draft picks, I got to watch Tedenby dominant the World Juniors in Ottawa, he looks to be an incredible player.

*-> Yann Danis also of the New Jersey Devils has told the media he'd love to re-sign with the Devils organization but said he has doubts as he has not heard from the club since the end of their playoff run. No offense to Danis but his position is pretty easy to fill. Even then the Devils may want to upgrade as Martin Brodeur is begging to show his age.

*-> The Vancouver Canucks GM Mike Gillies has told the media after the Canucks exit from the playoffs at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks he'd like to add some veterans with playoff experience to his club. Some are reporting he has interest in signing Bill Guerin in the offseason as the Pittsburgh Penguins are highly unlikely to keep him in the fold. Another name being thrown about is Rod Brind'Amour who currently is in limbo in Carolina and awaits a meeting with Jim Rutherford to see what fait beholds him.

Thats it for now, I've been working on my draft preview for the 1st round so hopefully in a week or so that shall get posted. If anyone knows a site I can stream the Canada games live it would be much apprciated as apparently Virgin tv and Internet blocks out almost anything North American online. I'll also appogize for the many more typos and mistakes as this laptop I'm using seams to have a broken keypad and no word software.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Evening

*-> This reported this afternoon by CA -> Jared Staal, the youngest of the illustrious Staal brothers, has been traded from Phoenix to Carolina for a 5th round pick. While his older brothers were all top 15 picks in their draft years, Jared was picked in the second round of the 2008 NHL entry draft, 49th overall. Thus far, Staal has been overshadowed in Sudbury by OHL star Eric O'Dell, and has yet to show the same level of talent the rest of the family has become accustomed to, although he has been noted for his solid two way play.
Could this be a move to get him rolling with big bro Eric watching over him? Was this a favour for the Hurricanes best player and captain? We'll see in camp next fall.

Personally I feel its a favor to big brother Eric as Jared is way less talented than his 2 brothers and while might have a decent AHL career he is projected at best as a journeyman. It may help push him to succeed under Eric but we shall see. On addition to CA's report I'd like to mention Jared Staal has officially signed with the Hurricanes to a 3 year deal worth roughly 500K per season.

*-> The Minnesota Wild has signed the Houston Aeros leading scorer Jean-Michael Daoust to a one year free agent. The deal is reportedly worth 450K for the year on a two way deal.

*-> New York Islanders prospect Stefan Ridderwall has rejected all offers from the club and has stated he would rather stay in Sweden and play for Djurgardens for another season. Many are speculating that its due to the fact the Isles have a log jam in net and he'd like to skip directly to the NHL rather than the minors behind another goalie. Ridderwall was drafted by the Isles in 2006 and now is set to become a free agent as his rights will expire. Expect a few teams to try and dangle offers at him. The Dallas Stars and the Philly Flyers come to mind.

*-> This ones for Jalen, TSN has reported Sydney Crosby has moved out of Mario Lemieuxs Pittsburgh home and bought a house near Super Mario. Must be tough, no-ones shoulder to cry on anymore. Too Early?

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Evening

Well I'm here in the UK and day 2 has been filled with that wonderful British weather, cloudy and random bouts of rain. After a long flight around volcanic ash, an hour around the vocanic ash I had a lovely wait in the customs line at Heathrow airport. A few short hours later I had arrived. Not great news ether but what can you do its for family right.

The internet struggles here combined with the jetlag I decided to hold off till today to post. I decided to check out the tv guide out of curiousity to see if they even had any hockey on television and to my surprise they have replays on their version of ESPN but it was relgated to the mid-day slots right before kayaking and right after cycling. I haven't got to check it out myself as my location doesn't have any sports packaged though but I just thought it was funny they even had hockey as everyone I met was baffled and confused about my "ice" hockey blog, not to be confused with the Ice Scoopz field hockey blog over here. Anyways enough of my rant and on to the news which has already broken over there.

*-> Brad May of the Detroit Red Wings is contemplating retirement due to family reasons. His lack of playing time and lack of role is most likely another factor in this as well. May also went on to say that if the Toronto Maple Leafs came knocking again he may reconsidered as he resides in Toronto.

*-> The Dallas Stars have resigned goaltender Kari Lehtonen to a 3 year deal worth 10.65$ MIL working out to 3.55$ MIL person. Lehtonen was acquired in a deal close to the deadline from the Atlanta Thrashers. This officially marks the end of the Marty Turco era. Hopefully Lehtonen can respond and recover from his past injury woes for the Stars sake.

*-> More Dallas Stars news, free agent Johan Hedburg of the Atlanta Thrashers is reportedly at the top of Dallas's wish list. Hedburg has been Lehtonen's backup and mentor since his arrival in the league and with the Stars lacking a backup he is rumored to be reunited. Dallas also has Brent Krahn in the fold as a RFA but is still unproven and likely not the best solution. This being said its tough to say whether this rumor is accurate but we do know the backup choice has to be cheap and Hedburg will atleast make 850K.

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Afternoon

On the way to the airport with a few quick rumors for you. Thank god the internet exists as I'm going to have to watch game 7 of the Habs - Pens game online. However Ill miss Vancouver - Chicago tonight.

*-> The Los Angeles Kings look like their ready to part ways with the enigmatic Alexander Frolov. Frolov who had one of his worst seasons to date spent most of the season in the doghouse and was healthy scratched for several games. Frolov's camp has indicated he would like to stay in Los Angeles but it appears management wants to go in a different direction. While the coaching staff admitted it was a trying season for Frolov they said they'd have him back and expect he'll have a better season.

*-> This being said about Alexander Frolov, the Los Angeles Kings look to upgrade his position and Ilya Kovalchuk is back in their sights. LA is one of the teams expected to make a major push for the superstar Russian. The Kings have a ton of cap space and are looking for an elite forward to help raise there game to the next level next season. The Devils, Atlanta and several other teams are expected to make a pitch as well as a handful of KHL teams.

*-> The Washington Capitols are rumored to be pushing for a trade involving Alexander Semin. Semin had a great season with 40 goals but floundered in the playoffs and as said before the Caps need cap space. Semin is rumored to be heading to the Oilers for disgruntled Sheldon Souray. This rumor doesn't make sense for the Caps as Souray is the last thing they need right now as well as a massive unmoveable. What do you guys think?

Monday, May 10, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Monday Afternoon

*-> The Philadelphia Flyers have signed NCAA free agent, Andrew Rowe to an entry level deal. Rowe played for Michigan this past season.

*-> It looks like Sugar Ray Emerys days are numbered in Philly. The Flyers and Paul Holmgren are planning on taking a different route this offseason. Emery who has been frequently injured since signing a one year with the Flyers is expected to be passed on this summer as he's a UFA. The Flyers are expected to try and land a number one goalie during the offseason most likely via trade. Tomas Vokoun, Carey Price and Tim Thomas have all been rumored to be targets via trade and Marty Turco via free agency. Ray Emery is expected to try another one year deal elsewhere or head back to Europe. There also reports that Emery could decide to retire as his hip injury is worse than indicated.

*-> While on the topic of Flyers goaltending quest, its rumored the Flyers are putting a package together for Carey Price. Simon Gagne and a late pick in return to the ousted goalie. Montreal is still trying to pry Claude Giroux its being said. The Flyers want nothing of it while Montreal would only be interested in Gagne if they took cap space back in return.

*-> Reports out of the hockey world have the Tampa Bay Lightning attempting to sign Kazakstanian winger Krasnoslobodtsev to a free agent deal. Vadim Krasnoslobodtsev played for Barys Astana last season. However reports out of the KHL have him already signed to a deal in the "K".

Less than 48 hours till I land in the UK for family reasons for the next 2 weeks. Bad timing on for a trip because of the Playoffs but ailing family is more important. Don't stress however because Ill still be connected and be able to bring you the news!

Ice Scoopz: Friday Afternoon

* Another quiet day so far in regards to rumors, a few more linked players that could make a bolt to the KHL this summer.

*-> Sergei Kostitsyn of the Montreal Canadians is once again being said to be on the verge of signing in the KHL. Sergei who already once decided to flee is looking at taking off again its rumored as he's unhappy with the Habs and their done with him it looks. The rumor midseason was CSKA Moscow but now it appears he's on the radar of Dynamo Minsk of Belarus his home country. Dynamo Minsk is the team as of late being all over the latest KHL defects. Could just be a coincidence since it recently came out that he was unhappy and just pure speculation. Its said he'd rather have full time NHL icetime and hopefully alongside is brother. The link between him and Minsk is possible but could just be the connection of home country.

*-> CBC had reported that Marek Svatos was on the verge of signing in the KHL after his contract with the Colorado Avalanche expires but its recently been reported that Svatos would rather stay in North America if there still is interest in his services. I feel there most likely will be as he'll be taking a paycut to reprove himself next season ala Maxim Afinogenov style.

*-> The Buffalo Sabres have signed 2008 6th round draft pick Nick Crawford to an entry level deal. Crawford played for the Barrie Colts and Saginaw this season.

Thursday, May 6, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Afternoon

*-> Many people are the hockey world are talking about the termoil going on in Montreal surrounding the Canadians and Sergei Kostitsyn. It was recently revealed that Sergei Kostitsyn was causing a disturbance by not practising and missing team events. His work ethic has many of his teamtes upset with him including goaltender Carey Price who was over heard by the Montreal media asking Sergei why he was leaving early and then refered to him as "too good". Montreal has had problems with Sergei before when they demoted him to Hamilton and he went AWOL before his agent and his brother Andrei talked him back to the Bulldogs. He eventually played his way back on the Canadians roster and into the lineup. Theres no doubt Sergei and coach Jacques Martin haven't seen eye to eye since they first met this season, now things have taken a turn for the worse. Its speculated that while Kostitsyn will remain on the Montreal roster till seasons end but not suit up for any games. He has also been told to stay away from the rink and train in the gym rather than with his enraged teamates. Many believed Pierre Gauthier will attempt to trade him in the offseason instead of resigning him as he's an RFA. It was rumored that the Oilers were interested in both brothers midseason and the Nashville Predators are also looking looking at the 2 to add to their non existing offense.

*-> The Phildelphia Flyers have signed Russian free agent goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky to an entry level deal. Bobrovsky left the KHL club Metallurg Novokuznetsk for the NHL after being undrafted.

*-> Ottawa Senator prospect Josh Hennessy has taken off to Europe to play for Lugano of the Swiss league. Hennessy has struggled all career long to break the Ottawa/San Jose lineups and after several seasons in the AHL he has decided to further his career.

*-> Olli Jokinen is rumored to be close to signing in the KHL reports have claimed this season. Dynamo Minsk is rumored to be the team after Jokinen but Olli's agent has said his client fully intends on playing in the NHL next season. I doubt Jokinen would leave the NHL unless it's for a major payday and Dynamo Minsk isn't capable of that currently.

*-> Ruslan Salei of the Colorado Avalanche is also rumored to be seeking a contract overseas in the "K". Dynamo Minsk is also pursuing Salei it's said but Dynamo Riga is also after the big Belarussian defenseman. This one could be closer to the truth as Salei almost certainly wont be resigned by the Aves.

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Noon

*-> The Chicago Blackhawks are close to signing free agent forward Niklas Persson out of the Swedish Elite league. Persson is currently playing for Linkopings.

*-> Mark Recchi was debating calling it quits at the end of this season but the Boston Bruins resurgence has him thinking just one more. Recchi who is 42 thinks he'll play another year if his body holds up during Bostons run and if the Bruins will take him back for one last kick at the cup.

*-> Jaromir Jagr has officially signed back in the KHL with Avangard OMSK to a 1 year deal as previously reported on ice scoopz.

Monday, May 3, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Monday Afternoon

*-> Zbynek Michalek of the Phoenix Coyotes is set to hit free agency this summer and has made it clear he'd like to stay with the Yotes but also its said he'd consider offers from the Ottawa Senators so he can play with his brother Milan. It could be a good chance as Ottawa is looking to add to their backend with the possible loss of Anton Volchenkov and Andy Sutton.

*-> Speaking of the A-Train, Volchenkov keeps being linked to the Washington Capitols as the Caps want to add some grit and defensive strength to their weak defense corps. Washington is blaming their soft defense for their upset at the hands of the Habs. This scenario makes sense as well but there is a huge roadblock in the way. The Washington Caps are pushed right to the cap and have to try and resign ether Eric Belanger or Brendan Morrison, a back up for Varlamov and Reup Niklas Backstrom as well. If they could find a home for Alexander Semin the finances could work.

*-> Dan Ellis of the Nashville Predators has told the club he will test the free agent market this summer with his main reason being its rumored he wants to be a starter and not share duties like he did in Nashville. The summer is gunna be a good one for goalies so it may work out for him but its also a pretty flooded market this year as well so he better hope he has a leg up on the rest.
