Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Afternoon

*-> Brian Lee has been placed on waivers by the Ottawa Senators this afternoon. The Minnesota Wild has mild interest as well as the Blue Jackets its been said. The rumor has it the Sens were trying to work a deal with Washington before the Caps pulled the trigger on the Hannan deal so it's interesting to see what's gunna happen next for Lee

Trade! Washington -> Colorado + A Minor Signing

*-> The Atlanta Thrashers have signed Tim Stapleton from the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL and removed center Patrice Cormier for the IR and assigned him to the Chicago Wolves.

*-> The Colorado Avalanche have trade veteran defenseman Scott Hannan for Tomas Fleischmann of the Washington Capitals. So it appears the Caps had a trade in the works but it wasn't ether destination as rumored. I dunno if I like this one for the Caps but it does fill the role they need so it works. The Aves were up to something with all of the backend shuffling and were able to upgrade upfront at the same time. Fleischmann could pay out if given the right situation and role.

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Morning

*-> Reports out of Boston have the Bruins attempting to shop Michael Ryder to continue to clear cap space for the return of Marco Sturm. The Bruins now have enough space to bring Marc Savard back into the fold but still lack cap for Sturm. Many are still anticipating a Marc Savard deal as he's one of the few movable pieces in Boston. Ryder is playing well but his contract is too heavy for many teams to take on at this point in the season so look for another player to be shipped out instead. Ference should now be safe that Hunwick has been moved as well as the rest of the defense corps. Another name to watch is Dan Paille who also could be moved.

*-> Kevin Bieksa has been sick the past week with Pneumonia so no panic or excitement yet for Vancouver fans. People are now linking the Montreal Canadiens with Bieksa once again. I still find these rumors doubtful but many around the hockey world are claiming a trade with Washington is imminent. The Los Angeles Kings and the Washington Capitals are the more likely deal at this point.

More soon..

Ice Scoopz: Monday Night

Here's the last few rumors of the day...

*-> Juraj Mikus of Dinamo Riga has been loaned to Spartak Moscow it's been reported by Russian media sources.

*-> The Toronto Maple Leafs may be taking another look at center Marc Savard as his return approaches it's being reported. The Bruins need to still clear more cap space and One of their 3 centers appear to be on the way out. Savard makes the most sense but is hampered by his no trade clause which can only be lifted for 5 teams, two of which are division rivals the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs which helps fuels this fire. Many are also saying Phil Kessel has requested his former teamate. Still speculation on most peoples parts but with Brian Burkes self imposed Christmas trade deadline and the lack of a star centerman, there isn't much out there other than one of the 3 out of Boston. Savard being the best option to be moved. Still would the b's sacrifice a former key member of their team to a rival?

*-> As I say all that The Boston Bruins and the Colorado Avalanche have made a deal. Defenseman Matt Hunwick of the Bruins has been traded to the Avs for fellow defenseman and 2nd round draft pick (2007) Colby Cohen. Clearly a cap clearing move by the B's while Colorado continues to tweak their blueline.

Ice Scoopz: Monday Afternoon

*-> The Washington Capitals appear set to make an immanent deal for a defenseman in the following 48 hours according to reports. There appears two possible trades so far that are floating around. The first is a possible deal with the Los Angeles Kings looking to add some offense to help lift them out of their slide. The player in question is reportedly Tomas Fleischmann for the Capitals and going the other way is Matt Greene or Rob Scuderi. The second deal and the more likely scenario in my opinion is Kevin Bieksa from Vancouver for Tomas Fleischmann. The Canucks would like some offensive depth while Bieksa will help round out the Caps backend. Fleischmann was recently a healthy scratch on Novemeber 17th so it appears that the Caps are ready to part ways, the Caps have being looking for defensive help since the Canadiens knocked them out of last seasons playoffs. Bieksa has been in the Caps sights as well since the rumors hit the media this summer. The Canucks are close to getting a full blueline back so something has to give there as well.

*-> The Carolina Hurricanes are scouting ether the Colorado Avalanche or the Dallas Stars as scouts were seen taking in the sights last week. It's been said the Canes afre looking for help on the right side while the Aves would like a top 6 winger preferably on the left. The Canes are also reportedly willing to part with the incosistent Sergei Samsonov but something says Erik Cole could be potential bait. We'll have to wait this one out I guess.

*-> Andrew Cogliano is being shopped once again by the Oilers in attempt to add a physical shut down defenseman.

More late this afternoon including some Marc Savard and the Leafs rumors.

Ice Scoopz: Monday Morning

I hope all had a good weekend as I did. Another slow weekend on the rumor front but it's starting to pickup this morning. Here's this mornings news.

*-> The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenseman Gleason Fournier of the Rimouski Oceanic to a 3 year entry level deal.

*-> Mikhail Stefanovich has indeed left for the KHL, he was loaned this weekend to Dinamo Minsk as previously mentioned on Ice Scoopz.

*-> Peter Schafer has been officially bought out by the Vancouver Canucks yesterday afternoon. He has told his agent to look for a job in the NHL this season before heading to Europe as a second option. He reportedly doesn't want anything to do with an AHL contract this season his agent has said.

More this afternoon..

Ice Scoopz: Friday Evening

Some rumors live from the Hamilton Bulldogs / Binghamton Senators game at the Scotiabank Place. So far a pretty even 0-0 game. Not really any standouts tonight, I thought Corey Locke who leads the AHL would be more of a force in front of his former city but instead I've barely noticed him. Eric Gryba and Robin Lehner have looked good for the Sens while Enqvist and Max Pacioretty have stood out for the dogs. Anyways here's the rumors as promised.

*-> I've looked more into the Tomas Vokoun to Ottawa rumors and they appear to be 100% false. Several sites have been saying the Sens were trying for a deal with Florida to get some help between the posts. This one doesn't make sense in anyway so I was doubtful from the start. Markstrom isn't ready for the show yet so no sense in Florida rushing a trade as well as the Sens don't have the cap space so it would have to be a cap for cap deal plus goaltending isn't the Sens biggest problem at the moment.

*-> Another goaltending rumor has the Leafs willing to deal J.S Giguere now that Jussi Rynnas is dominating the AHL. The rumor has it that the Leafs are looking at moving J.S close to the deadline to make room for next season. Jonas Gustavsson would be the more likely trade candidate with high value but the Leafs would like to keep their young European free agent tandem and part with age. JS could be an attractive piece for a team looking for playoff drive with a shakey tandem. This will be one to watch as the deadline nears.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Afternoon

*-> TSN has confirmed that future Hall of Famer Chris Chelios is in talks with the KHL club Vityaz about a possible signing. Chelios has reportedly told his agent to spread the word he is avaliable and would like to return to hockey yet again. While he said he is in talks with former NHLer and teammate GM Alexei Zhamnov he said his age (48) most likely means nothing will come of it. Good for Chelly though for still trying to play, the way I see it is as long as you can still contribute in some way why not try to make a living off it?

*-> A correction or footnote on yesterdays waiving of Garnett Exelby, it appears the Chicago Blackhawks also signed him that very day as well to a 1 year deal on a 2 way contract.

*-> As a follow up no news yet on any claims for Petr Prucha, Peter Schafer and or Garnett Exelby but we should hear shortly. I've seen some reports of the New York Islanders putting in a claim for Prucha, we'll have to stay tuned on that one. I can see Prucha being claimed he's affordable and can help out on the second line for any teams looking for help. I'm still hearing Nashville..

*-> Marc-Andre Bergeron is not in Montreals sites at all sources close to the team are saying now, so as I figured looks to be Tampa Bay unless another suitor jumps out.

That's it for now, a couple hits late about a recent Ottawa/Vokoun rumour and a possible tradeline day deal involving the Leafs. see you then.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

*-> Word around the league has the Ottawa Senators frantically trying to make a deal to unload defenseman Brian Lee who has been a healthy skratch for most of the season. Reports late yesterday night had Lee headed to the Blue Jackets but they were dismissed this morning. The Minnesota Wild have only mild interest as well. It looks like the Sens may have to put together a package deal or take a waiver chance.

*-> Lots of speculation around Ales Hemsky thismorning, many are saying that he could be part of a deal to a star centerman it's being reported. I highly doubt the Oilers would part with Ales unless they received a player of higher value and something to help their rebuilding effort which isn't going to happen. Tambellini has even said don't look for the Oilers to make a major move since they still are in the rebuild process. So I guess that means you can disclude Dustin Penner from that list unless they get a steal of a deal for him too. Souray should be the only name mentioned and even then his value is still at an alltime low.

*-> Peter Schafer soon to be formerly of the Vancouver Canucks has thanked the Vancouver organization for his time there and has said he plans to shop himself around the NHL in the upcoming weeks after refusing to play in the AHL. If there's no interest he said he'd rather play in Europe than the minors.

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Afternoon

*-> The Philly Flyers are showcasing Brian Boucher as Michael Leighton gets set to return. The Back netminder has player back to back games for the first time in ages. Sergei Bobrovsky is clearly the teams number one choice going forward and as the team pushes its back against the cap, Boucher could provide a little relief. At the moment there isn't many teams looking for goaltending help. Calgary is the only team I've heard so far persuing Boucher as they look to add a stable back up plan as big Henrik Karlsson managment isnt comfortable with yet.

*-> Bob McKenzie has reported the enigmatic Petr Prucha has been placed on waivers by the Phoenix Coyotes along with Chicago's Garnett Exelby and Vancouver has placed Peter Schaefer on reentry waivers apparently for buyout purposes. Prucha may be given another shot while the other two seam destined to stay in the AHL or be bought out. Prucha might attract some interest from an offensively challenged team such as the Wil, Sens or Preds.

*-> More and more Marc-Andre Bergeron rumors continue to fly around the league. Tampa Bay Lightning appear to be the leaders in signing him while the Montreal Canadiens have now apparently spoken to his agent about a possible return but it's said a lot rides on the final Markov verdict and the Weber audition.

*-> Andrei Zyuzin has signed a deal with HK Atlant of the KHL, he played last season for SKA St. Petersburg.

*-> Denis Shvidki has left Yugra Khanti-Mansiysk of the KHL to go play for the Krefeld Pinguine of the DEL.

*-> Toronto Maple Leaf prospect Mikhail Stefanovich is reportedly unhappy with his parent club as they have now assigned him to the ECHL. Stefanovich has reportedly been in contact with the KHL club Dinamo Minsk about a possible loan as he feels he should be getting first line minutes in the AHL for the Marlies not in the ECHL.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

I'm still having technical problems with both pc and BB but the show must go on so here's todays news and rumors and a summary from yesterday.

*-> The Philly Flyers have signed Chilliwack Bruins captain Brandon Manning to a three year deal. Manning went undrafted last year. He'll staywith the Bruins till seasons end before making the jump to the AHL.

*-> Peter Schafer of the Vancouver Canucks has cleared waivers andwill report to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

A couple of deals yesterday from around the league...

*-> The Anaheim Ducks have traded Ryan Carter to the Carolina Hurricanes for Stephan Chaput and Matt Kennedy both players have been playing in the AHL this past season for Charlotte.

*-> The Ducks also traded defenseman Stu Bickel to the New York Rangers for fellow defenseman Nigel Williams.

*-> Patrick O'Sullivan was claimed off waivers by his former team the Minnesota Wild from the Carolina Hurricanes. Could be a goodmove for the Wild looking for some extra offense.

More news in a bit.

Monday, November 22, 2010

Trade! Philly -> Anaheim

*-> The Philly Flyers have traded David Laliberte and Patrick Maroon to the Anaheim Ducks for Danny Syvret and Rob Bordson.

Not a major deal just a minor league swap between the two teams, the Flyers get depth on defense while the Ducks get a little tougher.

Pat Burns 1952 - 2010

I've just learned that coaching legend Pat Burns has passed today alongside his family. Burns at 58 lost his battle with cancer after a 5 year fight with the disease. Burns will be remembers as one of hockeys greatest coaches of all time and hockey will forever miss his witty remarks and commentary about the game. It's an awful shame the Hockey Hall of Fame didn't honor this man before he passed instead giving nods to two women who do not belong along the regular Hall legends such as Pat Burns. We all know they will honor him now but it would have been nice to give Pat Burns the recognition he deserves while he was still here with us to feel proud and honoured by his achievements. Anyways thats another article for another time. I want to wish the Burns family my deepest sympathy as no family should suffer such a loss especially one as special as Pat Burns. He will be well remembered.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Noon

*-> The Ottawa Senators are working the phones still its being reported. The Sens are trying to move a body on the backend to clear some cap and avoid losing David Hale for nothing. GM Murray is looking to get something back for Hale instead of placing him on waivers and losing him. Brian Lee is also an odd man out but he too would have to pass through the wire. Its being said Hale is the defenseman they'd like to keep due to his decent play but there are currently no real takers. Some are also saying Murrays asking price is too steap for the 1st rounder. The Sens may be forced to deal Hale to attempt to get anything back in return. So far no rumored players in this yet but could the Minnesota connection come back into play?

*-> The Sharks/Bolts trade talk continues as the Sharks are reportedly looking at a pucking moving defenseman in Tampa. Some have said Matias Ohlund is the target as well as the M.A Bergeron signing for Tampa depends on moving a body. More on this one this afternoon.

*-> The Boston Bruins have said they have no intentions on trading or demoting Michael Ryder at the moment and there is no immediate plans for a trade as Marc Savard is still quite away from being in game shape. Marco Sturm will return in 2 weeks but trade plans arnt in the works yet. Its going to be interesting to see what the B's do when everyones healthy and the cap crunch is on. Could Raask be dealt? If Thomas stays hot it's a possibility but still a long shot as I'm sure the Bruins wish to retain youth till the system is restocked again.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

Finally back on track, the BB is still on the fritz so I'll be a bit before I can respond to any emails so you can use the site to get a hold of me if needed. Anyways on to the rumors.

*-> Matt Fraser of the Kootenay Ice of the WHL was signed by the Dallas Stars to a 3 year entry level deal after a strong start to the season with 19 points in 20 games.

*-> Jay Pandolfo has signed with the Springfield Falcons after not being able to find a deal with any NHL clubs this season.

*-> Marc-Andre Bergeron was recently interviewed by Stephane Alarie of Canoe.ca and he has said he is still recoving from off season surgery and wont be game ready till December. Bergeron also said he'd like to return to the Habs but wont wait for a call from them. He has said his agent has been in contact with several teams. The Tampa Bay Lightning are known to be highly interested in him as are apparently the Ducks. Dont expect a signing probably till he's 100%, the Habs are rumored to be linked again but I think they'll finally give Yannick Weber since he's been recalled or Mathieu Carle.

*-> San Jose Sharks scouts have been seen at the last 2 Tampa Bay Lightning games speculating a possible trade coming.

More before noon.

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Trade! Carolina -> Calgary

*-> A little late but here it is, the Calgary Flames have traded Ian White and Brett Sutter for Anton Babchuk and Tom Kostopolous.

Great deal for the Flames, they not only get rid of another headache headline they don't need in Sutter and bring in a big point shot and a reliable powerplay quarterback. Not only that but they bring in a vocal dressing room guy as well, something they badly need. The Canes fare fairly well as well but a lot of the deal banks on Ian White being able to adapt to their style unlike he did in Cowtown and work the pp but they already have that in Corvo and had it in Babchuk. They do get a project prospect who could develop a little more with the right guidance.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

Still having technical difficulties with my Blackberry, but here's a few quick rumors for today. Should be hopefully back in full swing tomorrow.

*-> The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly talking to the Pittsburgh Penguins in regards to Brooks Orpik. The rumored offer would have the Oil sending Dustin Penner to the Penguins. This rumor has been popping up all morning online but there doesn't seam to be any truth to it but you never know. I can't see the Oilers wanting to deal Penner quite yet. Its still early to rule this one a dud but I'll keep looking into it.

*-> Bob McKenzie of TSN has squashed the rumors surrounding Flames captain Jerome Iginla. The recent waive of rumors had Jerome heading to ether the Los Angeles Kings or the Colorado Avalanche. The most recent rumor has Brayden Schenn heading to the Flames but McKenzie has reported that his sources say the Aves nor the Kings have even spoken to the Flames yet but doesn't rule a deal out in the future.

Monday, November 15, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Weekend Wrap Up

*-> Jeff Carter has signed an 11 year deal with the Philly Flyers this weekend worth roughly 5.27$ million per year towards the cap. Another long extension hopefully it bodes well for the Flyers. Another young center peice locked upfor the forseable future. This should end all Carter rumors for now...

*-> Another recently debated rumor should also be ended today as the St. Louis Blues have locked up David Backes to a 5 year deal worth 4.5$ million or 22.5$ million overall. Great signing for the Blues, he's a great young player that should help the Blues become a championship team.

*-> The Tampa Bay Lightning are hotly pursuing free agent Marc-Andre Bergeron. The Bolts look to add some offensive punch to their backend and Bergeron appears to be a cheap solid solution. His agent has addmitted to several inquiries but no solid offers. He also said he had not been in touch with his former club the Montreal Canadiens like many have reported now that Andre Markov is once again out. The Anaheim Ducks and Florida Panthers have both also surfaced as of late.

Ice Scoopz: Monday Noon

A busy weekend for signings as several teams locked up key pieces for the future. I'll have the weekend summary of all the missed transactions and signing around 3pm as I've got a busy Monday going on and to make matters worse the old Blackberry has died on me. Heres a few quick ones

*-> Miroslav Satans agent Alan Walsh has confirmed that the Slovakian winger is in talks with the Montreal Canadiens about a possible signing. Satan who had a decent last half of the season with the Boston Bruins last year is currently playing with HC Slovan Bratislava. Looks like Montreal is getting set to bolster their secondary scoring with a seasoned veteran in Guerin or Satan. We'll have to keep an eye open for this one.

*-> Johan Harju has been called up by the Tampa Bay Lightning from the Norfolk Admirals.

*-> Brett Sutter son of GM Brent Sutter issued a public appology today for the incident that happened last Wednesday while the Flames were in Phoenix. Sutter punched a man in the face after leaving a Phoenix bar and was arrested. The Flames sent him back to Abbotsford today. Just another string of bad news for the Flames.

*-> Lastly the New York Islanders have relieved Todd Gordon of his head coaching duties and assigned him to be GM Garth Snows personal advisor. Jack Capuano will be the interim coach until they find a suitable candidate.

Friday, November 12, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

*-> The Montreal Canadiens are reportedly talking to Bill Guerin about a possible signing. The American winger has yet to receive an offer from any National Hockey League team thus far. Speculation has been fueled wigth Montreal dumping camp space however I feel the deal was made due to over crowding and the fact Picard has impressed management.

*-> Boston is on the verge of doing something it's being said. Could be a cap clearing move now that Savard is skating again.

More in a bit.

Trade! New York Rangers -> Columbus Blue Jackets

*-> The New York Rangers have traded Dane Byers to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Chad Kolarik. A minor league deal for both parties, Byers could pan out for the Jackets though.

Thursday, November 11, 2010

Trade! Montreal -> Colorado

*-> While eating lunch at McDonalds I was informed by Mack that the Montreal Canadiens have dealt rugged defenseman Ryan Obyrne to the Colorado Avalanche for prospect Michael Bournival. We knew that one was coming as the Aves were pushing hard earlier in the season for Obyrne and now with Alexandre Picards impressive start to the season he became the odd man out. Good deal for both clubs. Thanks again Mack for ruining my lunch haha.

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Morning

Lots of flurry around Jarome Iginla this morning as I continue to look into the rumors from yesterday. As I said yesterday I'm still not sold their shopping so take these as you will. I just wanted to clarify a few things I've noticed on other blogs, forums and emails I've received. Hopefully this answers some of your question in regards to where or how accurate my rumors are. I know there are some bloggers who have rating systems and say they back up most of their rumors because they come from "good" sources, this site does not have a rating system or guarantees any rumors as being true. Hence why they are called rumors. While I do have sources I always keep in mind that they are rumors even if they come true. I try my hardest to dig and sort through the rumors and look for any truth and validity in them before I post them so I can give my educated take on the matter. I do post most rumors that I see come up from multiple places and if its only a single source rumor its usually not worth noting but something from multiple sources then I will look deeper at it. As I said I do have sources but realize sometimes they will feed me a line or two that are false to keep me on my toes. Many people have asked me in the past few days why I don't guarantee all my content posted. My answer is simple, I take pride in my sites accuracy so unless I'm 100% sure its going to go through I won't say its a done deal but I will post most rumors stupid or true and give me feedback as it creates intelligent debates for the sites fans and posters. Don't shoot the messenger as they well unless I guarantee a for sure thing then shoot away! Anyways I hope that clarifies that for everyone asking or sending me angry emails claiming a trade rumor hasn't come true.

I just want to take this time as well to thank all of our troops overseas all of our veterans for what they have done and sacrificed for everyone here and all over the world. A minute of silence isn't enough to express our gratitude for everything we have .

On to the rumors,

*-> The Los Angeles Kings rumor involving Jarome Iginla is reportedly revolving around the Calgary Flames wanting Dustin Brown and a high level Russian prospect. The Flames are interested in a younger more vocal player to be able to ease into the loss of their longtime captain while the Kings would like add some offensive punch and replace their captain with the more offensive Iggy. Another don't see happening deal in my opinion, why would the Kings part with their less expensive younger model of Iginla?

*-> The second Iginla rumor that's swimming around this morning is a shake up trade with the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres would send the slumping Vanek to Calgary for Jarome. The Flames looking for extra offense punch and the Sabres trying to add some heart into their floundering squad. I can't see them trading Iggy as I said. I also believe that the Flames need someone who will start a fire under the guys in that dressing room and the rest will come. Too many underachieving one dimensional players on that squad.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

Back after a few days off followed by a couple of quiet rumorless days. A couple of rumors to chase today.

*-> Petr Sykora is on the verge of signing a deal in Belarus today. Sykora is working on a contract with the KHL's Dinamo Minsk. It's not official but it's expected to go through within the next 24 hours.

*-> Dustin Boyd is reported to have cleared waivers today and been assaigned to Hamilton of the AHL by the Montreal Canadiens.

*-> Another Jarome Iginla rumor has surfaced this morning. I don't feel their moving him at this point or possibly ever but here it is. The Buffalo Sabres are reported to be offering up Tim Connolly and a assortment of picks for the Calgary captain. Buffalo is looking to some extra help in the leadership department and some extra offense. The Flames get Connolly to try and get back on track. I don't see why the Flames would downgrade from a great gritty guy plus he's their captain to an injury prone player who doesn't help with the dressing room at all.

Just as I'm typing this post I hearing about a major rumor concerning Jarome Iginla and the Los Angeles Kings so although I don't buy the Flames are shopping Iggy and have said so the past week but I'll look deeper at the rumors. Stay Tuned!

Saturday, November 6, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Saturday Morning

*-> The Dallas Stars signed goalie of the future Jack Campbell of the Windsor Spitfires to a 3 year Entry Level deal. Campbell will remain with the Spitfires till the end of the season and try and take the jump to Dallas next season.

*-> Alexander Urbom has been recalled from Albany Devils to the New Jersey Devils.

*-> The Buffalo Sabre's are attempting to make a move. GM Darcy Regier has admitted to attempting to work the phones to complete a minor deal. He has said he will be patient with his team and coach and any moves made will only be minor. The Sabre#s are reportedly in the market for a defenseman to help Tyler Myers on the backend.

*-> The Calgary Flames management has officially nixed any Jarome Iginla trade ideas. They have said they have not inquireds or nor will they anytime soon. Darren Dregger has confirmed on a report on TSN.

Good Debate on the Kovalchuk issue, I'm excited to respond. More news this afternoon.

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Evening

*-> Former New Jersey Devil Bobby Holik has been voicing his opinion on the Ilya Kovalchuk signing the past few days on several radio shows saying that it was a bad signing and it's the cause of New Jerseys woes. He also went on to criticize Kovalchuk for being late to a team meeting and having a bad reputation around the league. The coaches are not to blame according to Holik as well, the blame lies on the contract. The Devils are a different team this season that's for sure. I think while that Kovalchuk contract is ugly and completely unmovable it's not it's fault the Devils are doing poorly. Yes it limits them to icing a thin roster but at the same time it's the managements problem for A. agreeing to it and B. not making any changes to get cap space. I agree it's not John Macleans fault and he still needs time to get a system in place. It's not an easy task turning a defense first team into an offensive powerhouse. Look at Minnesota who are going through similiar growing pains. To blame Kovalchuk for the teams woes is pretty silly. Yes he should be producing more but give him something to work with. Criticize his play but the weight alone of losing shouldnt be on his back alone. Veteran guys like Arnott, Langenbrunner, Tallinder should be pushing the team. It's not just Kovalchuk who has struggled it's the entire team from the net up. I know CA will be the first to comment and call me a "Russian Sympathizer" but I don't agree it's entirely his fault, just look at the rest of his team. There is more than a handful of guys who should be helping out. His play has been poor and his attitude is that of a prima donna but he has shown heart in the past. He does have to step up but it's much bigger than just him. I believe it was Bobby Holik who said once "if you put a massive contract in front of me I'm obviously going to sign it". For how many years did Holik's inflated contract burden New York and New jersey? Management should share equal blame for putting themselves in this mess in the first place. To me New Jersey woes are simple, a coaching change, a big roster turn over on the backend, the lack of cap space, and a new style change all at once are the source of their woes not Ilya Kovalchuk. As Maclean said earlier the team should be playing their hardest and not relying on Ilya to bail them out every night.

What does everyone else think on this matter? Is Kovalchuk to blame for New Jersey's dreadful start? His contract? The coaching staff? Lets hear your thoughts!

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

*-> You can count the Toronto Maple Leafs out of any possible deals in the near future? Brian Burke has stated he is happy with his squad even with the recent struggles the past few weeks after their hot start. He said he won't make a move unless it's abosultely the right fit for his team and he won't make a move for the sake of making a move. I looked deeper into the rumors about Backes and it seams they originated from an article just speculating the Leafs could make that deal. I do believe the Leafs have interest in Backes and he could be a potential candidate for a deal in the future but for now i expect him to remain in St. Louis till they are 100% sure they wont be able retain him, look for a possibility in the New Year or deadline. On Brian Burkes comments he is a lot of smoke a mirrors when talking to the media, infact I believe he's one of the best at playing the media in his favor. He's just stirring the pot on a deal and didn't we hear last week he had potential offers in place but nothing major?

*-> Jeff Deslauriers has cleared waivers and been assigned to Oklahoma of the AHL by the Edmonton Oilers.

*-> A bit more to the Iginla story, reports out of CBC have many members of the Flames management core wanting/willing to deal Jarome Iginla to try and bring in new life to their organization. They apparently have realized that Jarome isn't the player he was in the past and the team could use a make over for the future. I'm still not buying it, I felt the Flames made a major make over last season by trading Dion Phaneuf. Also if they wanted a make over why would they remake Olli Jokinen and Alex Tangauy again? It would send a major message to the room but unless they got a credible leader, whose younger, equally talented and has name value in return, all of which they wont be able to find at the moment. Remember folks he holds a no movement clause as well but he did state over the summer he's down to help the team in anyway possible. How about getting him somebody to play with finally?

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

Nothing happening this morning so far, all quiet on the rumor front. I'll have some Ilya Kovalchuk debate later on today for everyone to voice themselves on.

*-> Jon Sim was demoted by the New York Islanders after clearing waivers yesterday. He'll report to Bridgeport of the AHL.

*-> Jonas Enroth will be headed in the opposite direction as Sim as he head to Buffalo on a call up from Portland to back up Patrick Lalime as Ryan Miller is still injured.

*-> It appears the Calgary Flames may be willing to move a body or two to shake up their squad. The Flames management seam to have an anybodys available policy at this point to better their ailing team. Jarome Iginla could be a target as well as Ian White who has been linked to several teams now that the Giordano deal has been sealed. I'm not too sure the Flames would ever trade Iggy unless he was seriously unhappy but givevn how the Sutters have turned the Flames into a giant flaming mess anythings possible at this point. I still wouldn't count on it though. White could be easily moved however. Columbus may be a good target for him as their still searching for help.

Tuesday, November 2, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Afternoon

*-> The Vesa Toskala deal reported this morning is apparently a one month contract according to TSN so I guess that means Vesa may be eyeing a return or showcasing his skills for any interested teams around the NHL and the KHL.

*-> A major rumor has surfaced in Toronto today, it appears the Leafs may have their eyes on St. Louis forward David Backes. Backes is struggling to come to terms with the St. Louis Blues who have a handfull of free agents this summer. Toronto is still eyeing that prize piece of the puzzle to put in the middle beside Phil Kessel. With the slight chance the BLue could lose Backes this summer the rumors have already begun spinning. A rumor reported this morning has the Leafs offering Nikolai Kulemin, Tyler Bozak and James Riemer for David Backes and a late round pick. I've seen several other variations also today with some sending just Bozak and a high level prospect. It's doubtful that the Leafs organization have already given up on Bozak as he still needs time to learn, it's only his second season after all. Nikolai Kulemin is also a key piece on Toronto's special teams but I can see the Leafs parting with him if they can obtain that offensive setup man to compliment Kessel. I don't think the Blues are ready to give up on signing Backes yet ether but as the season progresses expect the rumors to heat up especially to Toronto as Backes makes sense and has several ties already to the Leafs with Brian Burke GMing the USA National Team at the Olympics and Kessel already seeing ice time beside Backes in the past.

*-> It appears it was just smoke blowing in regards to the Phoenix deal for Savard. Nothing new on that front but maybe it could be due to Savards no movement. We still don't know the other 3 teams Savard has listed as potential destinations. Right now just Ottawa and Toronto are the two possibilities, for now we'll rule this one a dud.

*-> Bill Guerin still hasn't given up on signing with an NHL team this season, he has told the media he is ready to go and willing to sign with a team interested. Just as Pandolfo told the media Guerin too is being forced to think about retirement earlier then planned but Guerin seams to have a little more faith and will to wait it out. He also said he hasn't been in talks with any of his former teams about a possible return. It's sad to see guys like Guerin on the sidelines when they still can be a positive and useful player on almost any roster.

*-> The Vancouver Canucks have sent down Jeff Tambellini to the Manitoba Moose.

*-> The Los Angeles Kings are very close to signing forward Brayden Schenn to an entry level deal.

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Morning

Here is this mornings news and signings.

*-> Vesa Toskala has signed a deal with AIK in the Swedish Elite League after several unsuccessful seasons in the past few years with Anaheim, Calgary and mainly Toronto.

*-> Zach Kassian of the Windsor Spitfires has signed and Entry Level contract with the Buffalo Sabres.

*-> Fellow prospect Landon Ferraro son of Ray Ferraro also has signed an entry level deal with the Detroit Red Wings this morning.

*-> Free agent Jay Pandolfo is reported to be contemplating retirement after receiving virtually no interest this spring. Pandolfo has remained in shape and still trainings daily for a possible return but has acknowledged that the salary cap era has effected many veterans and an earlier retirement then planned may be in the near future unless and injury ravaged team takes interest. He's not interested in a two way deal at this point in his career.

Ice Scoopz: Monday Noon

*-> Martin Havlat could be on the move soon as he and his agent Alan Walsh have publicly blasted the Minnesota organization and Coaching staff.
Havlat who has struggled out the gate this season has been in the doghouse as of late because of his inconsistent play. Havlat claims its the lack of ice time and the coaching staff not using him right. His agent Alan Walsh also agrees as he once again voiced himself and his client through his twitter account. We all remember last season when Walsh blasted Carey Price on behalf of Jaroslav Halak. This time around the Wild organization. Havlat could be on to something but also his lack of production could be due to a woeful Wild club this season which was expected to be a more up tempo bunch getting away from the defensive style once played. Currently this season the Wild have struggled in both domains. Chuck Fletcher has already been actively trying to persue a deal. Rumors in October have linked Ottawa as a potential partner. Fletcher would love to shake up his team and no bigger shake up would be the moving of a disgruntled Marty Havlat. On the other hand Havlat does have a heavy contract and injury concerns so a team taking interest would have to have cap space and goodluck. Havlat has no publicly said he wants out yet but many are saying its coming. Ottawa still might be a good destination as Havlat once called Ottawa home and the Sens would kill for any kind of attack but would have to get rid of ether Mike Fisher or Alexei Kovalev to make room. Kovalev most likely isn't moving anywhere unless Fletcher gets a piece or two in return for taking that risk. Fisher could be a good fit in Minnesota but is an Ottawa favorite. Till Martin Havlat says he wants out its all mere speculation still. Minny needs help its well known but it will be hard to find someone to take that contract without getting the an equal offensive player in return. Minnesota would be best to explore other options in my opinion.

*-> Jed Ortmeyer formerly of the San Jose Sharks has signed a deal to play with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL after no NHL interest was received.

*-> Michael Liambas has agreed to play for the University of British Columbia this season after being cut from the Leafs camp this season.

*-> Linus Klassen has been recalled by the Nashville Predators today from the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL.

*-> I'm still hearing Savard to Phoenix from many rumors. We'll have to keep looking into this one as info comes.
