Ice Scoopz: Saturday Afternoon

*-> The Montreal Canadiens have signed former Senator and Carolina Hurricane Alexandre Picard to a 1 year deal. Not too sure on the full details yet including the wage and if its a 2 way or one way deal but RDS has broken the story saying its official.

Ice Scoopz: Saturday Afternoon

*-> Devin Setoguchi has officially signed a deal with the Sharks as rumored. The deal is a bit different however as its only a 1 year contract but its still rumored to be around the 3 mil mark.

*-> The arbitrator has awarded Anti Niemi a 1 year deal worth 2.85$ million dollars. The Chicago Blackhawks have 48 hours to accept. Its expected the Hawks will like these figures and take the deal as Niemi was originally looking for 4 million.

Ice Scoopz: Saturday Noon

*-> Reports out of San Jose have the Sharks and Devin Setoguchi agreeing on a 2 year deal. The reports surfaced last night that it was a done deal but this morning it appears to be really close but nether parties have confirmed it yet. Some are saying in principal all the terms have been met but later this week they'll finalize the deal. Its apparently in the 3 million dollar range. Both rumors have conflicted each other but it appears more than likely close to being done than not.

*-> While on the Sharks, the Sharks are rumored also to be considering taking a run at Anti Niemi of the Hawks if Chicago can't get him to a reasonable contract. The Sharks are reported to be extremely high on him and would rather Niemi over both Griess and or Nittymaki. To me this ones a long shot folks, the Sharks didn't want an expensive goalie and they have repeatedly said that they want to give Greiss a chance.

*-> The Montreal Canadiens have signed prospect and 2009 draft pick Louis Leblanc to a 3 year entry level deal. Leblanc has officially left University and has the option to play for Hamilton of the AHL but it looks like the Canadiens plan to send him to the QMJHL for some fine tuning. Leblanc currently has a contract with the Montreal Juniors.

More rumors this afternoon and lots on the Tomas Kaberle front.

Trade! Anaheim -> New York Islanders

*-> The Anaheim Ducks couldn't live with the steep price tag of defenseman James Wisniewski so they have dealt him to a team with plenty of cap space and a backend that needs support. The Ducks get a conditional draft pick in return.

Good deal for the Islanders but what conditions does this 3rd rounder come with? The Ducks need some help back there big time and it would be a surprise if the Ducks don't puch even harder now for Tomas Kaberle.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Afternoon

Some signings to announce for this afternoon.

*-> The Anaheim Ducks have avoided arbitration with defenseman James Wisniewski this afternoon by signing him to a 2.3 $ million dollar deal for one season.

*-> The Ottawa Senators have agreed to terms with Chris Campoli on a 1 year contract worth 1.4$ million for one season. Awful deal for the Sens, Campoli added nothing to the team last season and for a team desperate for front end offense this wastes cap space. They could have easily added another depth defenseman for less.

*-> Dominic Moore has signed in Tampa Bay to a 2 year deal its reported.

*-> The Bruins have confirmed they've signed Blake Wheeler.

*-> The Montreal Canadiens have resigned depth defenseman Alex Henry to a 2 year deal worth 500K. The deal is a 2 way contract.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Afternoon

*-> The Atlanta Thrashers have spoken to Maxim Afinogenov about a possible return to the ATL next season. Originally Afinogenov did not want to return to Atlanta but it looks like the speedy winger might have a change of heart. The Thrashers were also weary about a return as his asking price has gone up. Several teams are looking at Max still but his asking price is still too high as many remember the last season in Buffalo where he tanked. The Thrashers may be the best fit but the Coyotes who have good success with rebound players may be another possible destination as they wish to add some more fire power and his speed fits perfectly in with the Desert Dogs. Several KHL teams have offers on the table but his intentions in the NHL still.

*-> The Hawks may be talking deal with the Washington Capitols in regards to Anti Niemi. Niemi who is asking for way more than the Hawks can afford could be on his way to the capitol as the negotiations have gone sour. The Capitols are still looking for a reliable netminder and still have doubts in Semen Varlamov. The Hawks have also reportedly spoken to Jose Theodore about a possible signing incase they are forced to peddle Niemi before his arbitration case instead of losing him. I highly doubt they'd bring in another inconsistent starter to join in house resident Cristobal Huet in my opinion but anything can happen.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Afternoon

*-> Brendan Witt has been placed on waivers with intent of buying out his contract. The Islanders waived him last season but couldn't find any takers and Witt ended up finishing the season in Bridgeport. A strange move for the Islanders unless they plan to sign a free agent or make a deal because the Isles are still under the cap minimum. Kaberle could be in the future for Islander fans. Witt should clear but may find a suitor if he lowers his price when an FA.

*-> The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed 3 of their RFA defensemen. Vladimir Mihalik, Mike Vernace and Mathieu Roy have all been inked to 1 year deals on a 2 way contract.

*-> The Detroit Red Wings are rumored to be close to a deal with free agent Kirk Maltby. Maltby is said to be waiting for the Detroit Red Wings to sign Mike Modano. Modano is still deciding his future but he is reported to be close to a decesion which could come as earlier as next week. Maltby and the rest of the Detroit's free agents are expected to be resigned but around Modanos contract. The Red Wings are also interested in bringing back Aaron Downey as well.

*-> Lee Stemniak is speaking to several teams about possible deals. Stempniak is rumored to be still interested in returning to Phoenix but the Yotes are pushing hard for a major hometown discount. The Ottawa Senators are also interested but they too are looking for a bargain signing as they are up against the cap. The Sabres have explored the option but wish the address their defense first once they enter training camp and get a good look.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

Lots of signings and arbitration results this morning ad several rumors to chase as well.

*-> Blake Wheeler of the Boston Bruins has been awarded a 1 year 2.2 million dollar deal by an arbitrator. The Boston Bruins have 48 hours to accept or reject this deal. I expect the B's will take this one with a grain of salt but salary cap issues will have to be dealt with. Michael Ryder could find himself in the minors this season but more than likely he'll be packaged with picks to sweeten the deal for a team that has space. The Blues and the Islanders both have been linked. If the Bruins are unable to find a taker he will end up buried in Providence just like his old pal Peter Schaefer. Marc Savard is another name that comes up in the salary dump rumors. Savard has already been asked to waive his no trade clause and out of the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs only the Leafs have interest. The Leafs however are looking to move Kaberle.

*-> Ottawa has agreed to a deal with Peter Regin to avoid arbitration. The deal is for 2 years and the first year pays 950K while the second year pays 1.05 mil. Good signing for the Sens. A multi year deal plus its affordable.

*-> Ian White and the Calgary Flames have also avoided arbitration with a 1 year deal worth 2.99 mil$.

*-> The New Jersey Devils have signed free agent Chad Wiseman this morning.

*-> The San Jose Sharks have agreed to terms with RFA Jason Demers for a 2 year deal worth 1.25$ million per season.

Thursday, July 29, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Afternoon

*-> Andrew Ladd and the Atlanta Thrashers avoided arbitration this morning by signing a 1 year deal. Atlanta who has been trying to avoid arbitration all week managed to do so again with another former Blackhawk Andrew Ladd. Ladd will make 2.35$ next season.

*-> Tim Kennedy of the Buffalo Sabres has been awarded a 1 milliong dollar 1 year deal this afternoon. The Sabres are expected to sign off on the deal.

*-> Goaltender Marty Turco will play in the NHL next season. His agent told the media yesterday that 3 teams have been actively pursuing the veteran netminder and it was nothing to do with numbers at all but to do with choosing the right team as Turco only wishes to play for a serious contender. Its well known the Flyers have been looking at Turco but its also been said the Chicago Blackhawks have interest as well but a deal depends on whether or not a reasonable deal with Anti Niemi could be found first. The 3rd team rumored is still up in the air but some have reported the Capitals and the Kings both could be interested.

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Evening

*-> The return on the DJ King deal is Stephan Della Rovere. I'm not too sure on this one for the Washington Capitals. There's several free agents out there that could have filled the void or even a less expensive trade could have worked. By no means is Della Roverre a future superstar but he's projected to be a gritty character forward that could prove usefull in the future for the Caps. The Caps must feel their squad is missing some toughness and intimidation.

*-> Ben Eager has avoided arbitration tonight by signing a 1 year deal worth 965K for the year. I like this addition for the Thrashers but it would have been more productive to try and work a multi year deal. I'm not a fan of these quick one year deals to avoid arbitration especially if the player has potential to have a really good year. For some of these guys who make sense but the ones with potential or value it doesn't. The price tag then doubles when if a multi year deal could have been obtained some money would be saved. Every dollar counts in this cap world.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Late Afternoon

*-> Marek Svatos is considering several KHL offers after not receiving any significant offers from around the NHL. Svatos has mild interest but its reported at a lower rate than he desires. Its reported that Dynamo Minsk and SKA St. Petersburg both are looking at the winger. The Ottawa Senators and the Los Angeles Kings have reportedly looked at Svatos but the Kings have found a winger of choice and the Sens are reportedly sitting pat till they resolve their RFA situations.

*-> Speaking of heading to Europe former Montreal Canadien Glen Meotropolit is rumored to be on his way back to the Swiss League. Zug and Lugano both have offers on the table for Meotropolit.

*-> Aaron Asham has told the media he has received offers from both the Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers but would rather wait to see if the Philadelphia Flyers his former club still has interest once they resolve their cap situation before giving up on his number one choice.

Trade! St. Louis -> Washington

*-> The St. Louis Blues have traded DJ King to the Washington Capitols it has been reported. The return is still up in the air stay tuned.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

*-> Cam Fowler of the Windsor Spitfires has signed an Entry Level with the Anaheim Ducks.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

*-> Tomas Fleicshmann and the Washington Capitals have come to terms on a contract before arbitration and Fleischmann will make 2.6$ million in a 1 year deal.

*-> The Edmonton Oilers and Gilbert Brule have also avoided arbitration and have agreed to a 2 year deal worth 1.85$ per season.

*-> The New Jersey Devils and defenseman Mark Fraser have signed off on a 1 year deal worth 500K.

*-> Anton Strahlman will remain a Blue Jacket after signing a 1 year contract with Columbus this morning.

*-> The Chicago Blackhawks have signed prospect Nick Leddy to an Entry level deal.

*-> Denis Grebeshkov is on the verge of signing in the KHL. A rumor surfaced this morning that the Russian D-man has signed with SKA St. Petersburg of the 'K' but it has been since reported a deal is on the table but has yet to be signed. Grebeshkov is waiting till the end of the week before signing the 2 year deal rumored to be worth 4 million per season. Grebeshkov would rather play in the NHL this season but interest is limited as well as his asking price. Its expected he'll sign a deal just as Maxim Afinogenov did last fall with an NHL release clause in case interest spikes.

More around 4PM.

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Afternoon

*-> The Los Angeles Kings have found their offensive upgrade... Well sort of. The Kings have added Alexei Ponikarovsky to their squad after failing to land Ilya Kovalchuk, Simon Gagne or hours later Alexander Frolov. Poni is set to make 3 million this season in a 1 year deal the same as Alexander Frolovs deal in NYC. Seams like a desperation signing by the Kings but atleast Ponikarovsky can play in all situations.

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Afternoon

*-> Brian Pothier formerly of the Carolina Hurricanes has signed a deal for Servette of the Swiss National league putting his NHL career on hold. The deal is rumored to be a one year deal.

*-> Yann Danis unable to find work this season in the NHL has headed to the KHL to play for Amur. Looks like Brodeurs former backup will start this season for Amur.

*-> Tomas Kaberle's name keeps coming up in Columbus Blue Jacket headlines. GM Scott Howson is reportedly interested in the puck moving blueliner. His attention is still on signing Anton Strahlman before his arbitration hearing but afterwards its expected he'll set his sights on Kaberle. It has been reported also that he's spoken to Edmonton is regards to Sheldon Souray but Kaberle is their number one choice.

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Morning

*-> Alexander Frolov has officially signed with the New York Rangers. The deal is for one season and is worth 3 million per year. His agent publically stated that Frolov didn't resign with the Kings due to the mistreatment of his client. He went on to accuse the Kings of trying to ruin Frolovs season. While I don't think they purposely ruined his season they did help bury it by publically blasting him several times and benching him. Good deal for the Rangers but one woners if they could have worked a smaller deal.

*-> Matt Moulson and the New York Islanders management to come to terms and avoid arbitration this morning. The Isles and Moulson agreed to a 2.45$ Million dollar deal.

Monday, July 26, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Monday Noon

*-> According to reports the Vancouver Canucks and Mason Raymond have agreed to terms before his arbitration hearing. The deal is rumored to be worth 2.5$ million the first year and 2.6 the second year.

Ice Scoopz: Monday Morning

Awesome weekend as I got some much needed fishing in and rest. To update everyone on the status of the site we're still under construction and the changes are expected to start showing up mid August. We've put together a good plan and I'll unveil the plans hopefully by August once I get a sit down with my web designer. I wanna hear from you guys about what you wanna see on this site cause after all its about what the people wanna see right? Let me know drop me an email or post some comments. Regulars and new followers. On to this mornings rumors.

*-> Alexander Frolovs agent has revealed he's close to a deal. Frolov is sitting on several different offers from around the league. He has confirmed that the New York Rangers have major interest while the Los Angeles Kings have been in contact after losing out for both Ilya Kovalchuk and Simon Gagne. Frolov also has a deal on the table from the KHL's St. Petersberg but its said he'd rather find a home in the NHL rather than overseas at this point in his career.

*-> Its official Robert Nilsson formerly of the Edmonton Oilers has signed a deal in the KHL with Salavat UFA. Its reported he does have an NHL release clause.

*-> Over the weekend the Tampa Bay Lightning have signed free agent Chris Durno who played last season for the Aves.

*-> Kyle Wellwood is currently speaking to Zug of the Swiss league about a possible jump to Europe. Wellwood is still looking at the NHL but the interest is pretty thin at this point.

*-> Linus Omark of the Edmonton Oilers is reportedly unhappy with North America and is contemplating heading back to Russia to play. The Oilers and the Swedish Youtube sensation aren't seeing eye to eye and unless things change the young forward may bolt back. He does hold a release clause after his first season if he does want out but according to reports that does mean much to the shootout expert.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Afternoon

*-> The Vancouver Canucks attempts to shop Kevin Bieksa have know ended as they have lost a top 6 defenseman. It was revealed this afternoon that Finnish blueliner Sami Salo has torn his Achilles Tendon while playing a game of floor hockey in Finland. Salo will miss up to 6 months to recover and its expected Kevin Bieksa will try and fill the void. Salo's salary won't affect the Nucks cap so they can afford to keep Bieksa or another roster player in the time being. It was said the Anaheim Ducks had made a pitch to Vancouver for the rugged defenseman with a 1st rounder and a forward prospect on the table. The Buffalo Sabres were also on the hunt for Bieksa. Brian Burke must be drooling now that this accident has occurred further thinning out the list of avaliable defenseman on the market.

*-> Marc-Andre Bergeron is rumored to be speaking to the Columbus Blue Jackets about a possible deal. The Blue Jackets are seaking a puck moving defenseman to boost their PP. Bergeron is still hoping to be resigned to the Canadiens as Andrei Markov won't be ready for the start of the season. Montreal has too much defensive depth to bring back a 1 dimensional dman.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

*-> According to reports Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens have all but agreed on a deal. Sources close to Montreal have said a deal in on the table and all that's left is a signature and a call to the league. Price who is currently an RFA was reportedly seeking a long term deal worth upwards to 4 mill per season. No figures have been mentioned yet but its expected to be around 3.5 for 5 years. I'm still skeptical about how true this is but we'll stay on it.

*-> The Colorado Avalanche had reportedly made several calls to the Edmonton Oilers organization in regards to youngster Andrew Cogliano. The Oilers said earlier this weekt that they have faith both Sam Gagner and Andrew Cogliano. Cogliano has been a fixture in most Edmonton rumors all season long so this doesn't surprise me.

*-> Arron Asham could be close to landing a deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning who are looking to add some more leadership and special teams help. They also lack a tough guy after losing Zenon Konopka and Matt Walker.

*-> A rumor regarding Sheldon Souray to the Anaheim Ducks is heating up. The Ducks are looking at adding to their defense after losing Scott Niedermayer to retirement. Souray who comes with a hefty cap hit is struggling to attract attention after asking out of Edmonton. The Oilers are rumored to be interested in taking another heavy hit back just to end this ordeal and get the disgruntled Souray out of the dressing room. Jason Blake is the rumored return as he has a big salary and the Ducks have depth.

Trade! Florida -> Chicago

*-> The Chicago Blackhawks have traded recently acquired Marty Reasoner to the Florida Panthers for Jeff Taffe. Another salary cap dumping move by the Hawks. Could this mean a Niemi signing is close?

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Afternoon

*-> Robert Nilsson formerly of the Edmonton Oilers has officially signed with Salavat UFA of the KHL as previously reported on Ice Scoopz.

*-> Ondrej Pavelec of the Atlanta Thrashers has agreed to a deal with his club. Pavelec who was a RFA agreed to a 2 year deal worth 1.15 MIL$ per season. Great deal for the Thrashers, that should put a dent in Anti Niemi's arbitration argument.

*-> St. Peterberg of the KHL has reportedly made a massive offer for Russian winger Alexander Frolov. The former King has had several KHL offers but wishes to remain in the NHL. The Atlanta Thrashers, the Nashville Predators and the New York Islanders have been linked. The Montreal Canadiens were linked but would like to move a body first. The Los Angeles King also have interest now that the Devils look to have won the war for Ilya Kovalchuk. They only want Frolov want at a reduced price however on a 1 year deal its.

*-> The St. Louis Blues have said they are done shopping for the summer and may only add a body during training camp as they feel they can contend by promoting within. They still have several RFAs still to sign and they expect it will push them over the Cap base.

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Morning

*-> A rumor was reported this morning on ESPN radio claiming that Rick Dipietro of the New York Islanders was seriously injured in a major car accident this morning. Some outlets have even reported that DiPietro had even passed this morning while most were saying he suffered a broken collar bone, hip and shoulder. The Islanders have released a press statement saying Garth Snow had indeed talked to Rick and he was alright and no such event occurred as it was all a hoax by the anonymous caller. Could be good new or bad news for Islander fans. Good news he wasn't seriously hurt or even involved joking aside.

*-> The Detroit Red Wings are continuing to wait on Mike Modano. Detroit has told several of their other free agents they plan to wait on negotiations with them due to the Modano decision. The American goal scorer has told the media and the Wings it will be Detroit or retirement and won't have a decision before he starts his summer skating in early August. Bad news for Lilja, Helm and Maltby.

*-> The Flyers have re upped winger Darroll Powe to a 1 year deal worth 725K.

*-> Yesterday the Ottawa Senators signed both Nick Foligno and Cody Bass to new deal. Bass earned himself a 1 year deal worth 500K on a 2 way contract while Foligno accepted a 2 year deal worth 1.2 million dollars per season.

More news around noon.

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

*-> The Ilya Kovalchuk saga continues as everyone has heard the NHL has rejected the deal because it compromises the salary cap. The Devils and Kovalchuk will fill for arbitration it looks like with the NHLPA. The NHLPA is still leader less but that won't effect anything its said. While Kovalchuk remains a free agent for the time being he has stated he will be a Devil by the end of it no matter what. Some are saying the arbitration could be too costly for the Devils and a new deal may have to be worked out starting from square one which means Kovi's demands may no be met and he may once again look to the market. All that being said is both parties are committed to finding a way to make this work so I can't see any other result than Ilya in New Jersey. The Los Angeles Kings may still throw another offer his way however Dean Lombardi has told the LA media. He said he still thinks there's a slight chance to present a better deal but he won't do it at an overpriced rate as Doughty, Simmonds and co are more important in retaining. He also didn't rule out a possible trade to boost his club.

*-> Manny Legace has told the media he has yet to officially sign with any team and he does not know where the Dinamo Riga rumors came from. He also didn't rule out a European adventure.

*-> The Atlanta Thrashers have walked away from Clarke MacArthurs arbitration ruling of 2.4 million and he now becomes a free agent.

*-> The St Louis Blues have resigned David Perron to a 2 year deal worth 4.5 million overall.

*-> Danny Syvret formerly of the Flyers has signed a 1 year deal with the Anaheim Ducks.

*-> The Buffalo Sabres have come to terms with Patrick Kaleta agreeing to a 2 year deal.

*-> Robert Nilsson has been rumored to be heading to Salavat UFA of the KHL. While Karlis Skrastins has been linked to Dinamo Riga.

Trade! Tampa Bay > Philly

*-> The official trade has been broken by the league and it has Simon Gagne heading to the Tampa Bay Lightning for the Lightnings 4th round pick and Matt Walker. It turns out that the deal involving Mike Smith was false which makes sense because the Bolts I doubt are ready to part with Smith yet. That's why I say nothings official till you hear it from the team or league this one was floating around all morning andwhile ther Gagne part to TB was right the rest was not. Bad deal for Philly in my mind, I'm sure they could have gotten more out of the Lightning or LA. Does this mean a panic for the Lightning? I'm pretty sure they'll respond with a trade or signing soon to add to their team since they failed to do so with Gagne and Kovalchuk.

Ice Scoopz: Monday Afternoon

*-> The leagues buzzing now that Ilya Kovalchuk has signed in New Jersey and as predicted the dominos are beginning to tumble. It looks like Simon Gagne could be gone within the hour. From what I'm hearing is that the Tampa Bay Lightning have put forth an offer that is believed to be a prospect and Mike Smith for Simon Gagne. A few other bloggers have been pushing this rumor today as well so its nothing official yet. Its a good chance its for real as several different sources have reported this one all morning. I'm hearing the delay involves Los Angeles attempting to force their selves back into this one stay tuned!

Thanks again Mack for the Kovalchuk heads up!

Kovalchuk Signs!

*-> Mack has just informed me TSN has reported that Ilya Kovalchuck has signed with the New Jerseys Devils. More on the terms soon!

Update*

It looks like this is a for sure thing now. Mathew Berry is reporting the deal to be a 7 year deal worth 60 million total so 8.5 a season$ Looks like loyalty is a trait to add beside Kovalchuks name. A no trade clause is also rumored.

Friday, July 16, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Friday Lunchtime

*-> RFA Bobby Ryan has attracted a bit of interest from around the league. Several teams have considered tendering him an offer sheet. While the Anaheim Ducks have said they would match any offers for him it is possible for a team to swoop in and out bid the Ducks. The Vancouver Canucks are rumored to be thinking about it while the Toronto Maple Leafs have had mild interest from the get go dating back to Brian Burkes days in California. The Ducks however are not actively shopping Ryan.

*-> Patrick Thoresen of Salavat UFA is thinking of making a return to the NHL this season. Thoresen has an offer from the Ducks he's sitting on but more than likely he'll return to the KHL where he'll be a star instead of a plugger in the NHL.

*-> Tim Conboy formerly of the Carolina Hurricanes has signed in Buffalo with the Sabres.

*-> Sean Bergenheim is considering a return back to Europe with Frolunda. Several Swedish teams have had interest in the Islander.

*-> The Detroit Red Wings are still waiting on Mike Modano to make a decision. They have yet to resign Andreas Lilja and Kirk Maltby but are waiting for Modano to decide if he'll be a Red Wing. Modano doesn't have many offers out there but the Minnesota Wild are still believed to be interested but the common consensus is its going to be Detroit or nothing.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Early Morning

Here's a few signings to catch up on from yesterday plus a few rumors to start the morning off.

*-> The Philadelphia Flyers have added even more defensive depth today by adding Dan Jancevski to their organization. The much traveled defenseman played for Dallas's affiliates last season. The deal is a 1 year deal and on a 2 way clause.

*-> The Islanders have resigned struggling prospect Robbie Schremp to a 1 year 1 way contract. Schremp looks to improve on his career high of 25 points this season.

*-> The Toronto Maple Leafs have added much need depth to their organization by adding forwards Joey Crabb, Mike Zigomanis and defenseman Danny Richmond to the farm. all are 1 year deals on 2 way contracts.

*-> The Minnesota wild continues to resign their goaltenders. Yesterday they re upped Anton Khudobin to a 1 year 2 ways contract.

*-> The Minnesota Wild have also secured their franchise forward Mikko Koivu for the next 7 years. The Finnish centerman resigned with the wild for a massive 47.25$MIL deal which translates to 6.75$MIL per season. a great move for the wild as Koivu plays the exact definaition of Wild hockey.

*-> Blair Jones has resigned with the Tampa Bay Lightning for another year.

*-> Gregory Campbell who was acquired in the Nathen Horton deal was resigned by the Boston Bruins to a 2 year deal.

*-> The Dallas Stars have signed veteran Brad Lukowich to a 1 year deal.

Some KHL signings...

*-> Manny Legace has taken off to the KHL after the NHL goalie market dried up. Legace will most likely start for Dinamo Riga next season on a 1 year contract.

*-> Pavol Demitra has indeed signed with Yaroslav of the KHL. Demitra has signed a 1 year deal ending his NHL career....for now, terms were not yet disclosed.

*-> Goaltender Steven Valiquette has also signed in the "K". Valliquette will lace up for CSKA Moscow.

On to the rumors....

*-> It's being reported the Ilya Kovalchuk war is currently being won by the Los Angeles Kings still. The Kings are still pushing hard for the Russian snipers services but some are saying Kovalchuk's loyalty to the New Jersey Devils is slowing down the progress being made. Kovalchuk feels personally responsible for New Jerseys situation and would like to help them out for trading away several key prospects and their 1st round draft pick for him and only giving them a short playoff run its being reported. Kovalchuk is also being drawn to the bright lights of Hollywood where his wife who is a singer could further her career as well. Kovalchuk's Russian agent still maintains he's fielding KHL offers that shadow the NHL teams offers and it could still be a possibility for Ilya to return home, He also noted however he believes the NHL is still 1st in his heart. Several other NHL teams have inquired about Kovalchuk but no major offers yet. The Islanders have reportedly touched base with Kovalchuk but yet no official offer has been made. The Nashville Predators have also inquired it's being said but Kovalchuk has no desire in heading to Nashville. It's still pretty wide open and if the right offer came from the Devils, or an outside team the door could be wide open. Kovalchuk is rumored to be seeking a 6 year deal worth max dollars. Los Angeles have met the length but wont give him top dollar due to the main reasoning they have a young crop of players due big contracts and do not wish to end up in the Hawks situation years down the road. hopefully this ends soon.

*-> While speaking on the end of the Kovalchuk debate this brings me to my next series of rumors. While the hockey world is still waiting for the signing of Ilya many side deals and signings are being held up by the ordeal. Simon Gagne is one of those players being tied up by Kovalchuk. The Los Angeles Kings have already shown big time interest in Gagne and he originally waived his no trade clause to head to LA it was once reported. LA has fielded the best offer so far for Gagne but he's still considered Plan B for the Kings. The Flyers have shopped him to several other teams including the Tampa Bay Lightning who could force the Kings to make a move soon otherwise they may miss out on the second option. Yzerman has tremendous respect for Gagne, Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis also could be major factors in this one.

*-> Alexander Frolov is another player waiting for the dominos to drop. Frolov a former King hasn't given up on the Kings quite yet. Call this one plan C. Frolov has also had talks with the New York Rangers as well. The Rangers offer is rumored to be really low however. Frolov has also pulled in several KHL offers. CSKA Moscow have put forth the biggest offer and it's expected St. Petersberg will turn their attention to Frolov if they are unable to land the big fish. The Montreal Canadiens showed interest at the start of free agency but now are focused on the Carey Price signing which is more expensive than they originally thought.

*-> Another casualty of this war is Tomas Kaberle and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs want total attention for this one as they need a bidding war to start for their franchise defenseman in order to get the best possible deal. Los Angeles before this fiasco started was one of the teams bidding for Kabby. One of the few Western Conference teams to add to that. Right now the Buffalo Sabres are hot for Kaberle but the Leafs are reluctant to deal him to a division rival. The Washington Capitals also have shown mild interest. Another Western team is the Columbus Blue Jackets but they haven't put forth a suitable offer for the Leafs so far. Burke is a smart man and he knows to wait this one out. It's almost certain that the Leafs will trade Kaberle especially after bringing in Brett Lebda this summer.

*-> When the dominoes begin to fall the rest of the avaliable attractive free agents should start going as well. There still are several worth while free agents out there and while the market is dried up for now several of them should find homes once this is all said an done with. Paul Kariya is one of those attractive free agents still out there. Kariya has his heart set on playing still and is listening to offers. It's rumored theres a big chance he could still return to the St. Louis Blues. They have been speaking but the Blues aren't too concerned about losing Kariya quite yet as they've been looking at the available right wingers on the market and trade options. Kariya has also spoken to the Pittsburgh Penguins and loves the idea of playing for a contender again. the only downside is the Penguins would expect Kariya to take a major discount contract to fit him in. The New York Rangers are also interested but once again are also interested in a reduced rate as per salary cap reasons. another long shot rumors is being reunighted with his friend and former linemate Teemu in Anaheim.

*-> The Calgary Flames are reportedly still trying to land Marc Savard from the Boston Bruins. The Bruins are still undecided on what their plans are for Savard and would rather not send him to any of his prefered teams as they are division rivals. The Senators have had mild interest and recently reports have had them interested in Savard and Wheeler in a packaged deal but from what I hear it's just Wheeler at the momment.

Well thats it for now more news and rumors soon!

*-> The Montreal Canadiens have signed Russian prospect Alexander Avtsin to a 3 year entry level deal as rumored on Ice Scoopz. *-> The Canadiens have also signed David Desharnais to a 1 year deal. Desharnais lead the Bulldogs in scoring last season, terms of the deal were not released.

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Morning

*-> Maxim Lapierre has signed a 1 year deal with the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs managed to get the feisty center Lapierre on a 1 way contract for 900K. Once again the Canadiens have signed another player to a 1 year deal putting them in a rough situation. Next summer.

*-> The Edmonton Oilers have made a decision for their goaltending next season as yesterday they signed Devan Dubnyk to a 2 year deal worth 800K per season. It is a 1 year deal and its expected because of this the Oilers might move one of their other 2 goalies.

*-> Jeremy Williams has signed with the New York Rangers. No terms have been released yet for the former Detroit Red Wing.

*-> Ilya Kovalchuk continues to drag out this bidding war as he is still unsure of where he might sign. The New Jersey Devils are waiting patiently while the Los Angeles Kings continue to try and sway the Russian wingers mind. Reports have Dustin Brown giving a personal tour of LA, the organization taking Ilya out on 2 separate occasions including one with some prominent Hollywood figures. Lombardi seams to be pulling out all the stops but still considers himself an outsider looking in. Kovalchuk is not quite sold yet and several offers he put on the table the Kings have rejected. Russia and the KHL are still in play but only as a last resort. Its being reported Kovi doesn't want to rush a decision but still expects to have a home by the weeks end if all goes as planned.

Ice Scoopz: Monday Afternoon

A slow day for rumors today but here are a couple I've scavenged up.

*-> The Chicago Blackhawks have told the media that they will indeed match the San Jose Sharks offer sheet for defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson. It looks like San Jose Sharks will have to go a different route to replace Rob Blake.

*-> Former Ottawa Senator Christoph Schubert appears to be heading back to Germany. The. Utility winger slash defenseman is close to signing a deal with EHC Munchen of the DEL.

*-> Pavol Demitra is in negotiations with the New York Rangers about a possible signing. Another optiong for the slovak is the KHL where he's had several offers. Demitra had a phenomenal Olympics for Slovakia but a miserable injury plagued season with the Canucks.

*-> Bryan Murray of the Ottawa Senators has said his team is most likely done adding to the roster until after he evaluates his team during training camp. Murray said he'd like to add a forward for depth but won't till camp. He said his defense is most likely complete but he expects that Jared Cowen could challenge for a spot in the lineup next season and could force a roster move.

Trade! Anaheim -> New York Rangers

*-> The New York Rangers have traded Aaron Voros and Ryan Hillier to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Steve Eminger. The Rangers are looking for some defensive depth so this deal makes sense for them but for the ducks it's unclear. Another move for the often shipped Eminger.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Late Afternoon

*-> Nikolai Zherdev has signed a 1 year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers this afternoon. The deal is still being undisclosed but it's rumored that it's around the 2 million mark. Zherdev played last season for Atlant of the KHL. The Flyers are right up against the cap and are looking to make a salary cap dumping trade to clear up room. Simon Gagne has already agreed to lift his no trade clause to help the Flyers find a deal. The Los Angeles Kings are the main suitors but are waiting to see how the Ilya Kovalchuk bidding ends before they make such a move. Jeff Carter is another Flyer that has been linked all season long to a deal. The Blue Jackets and the Nashville Predators both have shown interest in the past while the florida Panthers are reported to be in the hunt now. The Flyers have also been linked to Marty Turco as they wish to add to their goaltending qaulity and depth. The Flyer also have 2 RFA's they wish to resign in Daniel Carcillo and Darroll Powe. Expect a move or two in the up coming weeks.

*-> Mark Stuart was signed to a 1 year deal by the Boston Bruins, the terms of the contract are undisclosed as Boston policy.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

Its been a busy week over here at Ice Scoopz so I haven't been able to answer everyones comments but I'll be making some time today to answer everyone's inquiries and give feedback on comments.

Here's this mornings news.

*-> The San Jose Sharks are this first team this season to present an offersheet. The Sharks have offered defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson of the Chicago Blackhawks a 4 year deal worth 14 million dollars. If the Chicago Blackhawks don't make the offer in 7 days Hjalmarsson will become a Shark and the Sharks would give up their 1st and 3rd round draft picks in 2010. I'm thinking the Hawks will certainly match this offer but it will once again limit their options in the future.

*-> The Montreal Canadiens are close to a deal with MHL star Alexander Avtsin. Montreal highly covets the young Russian and hopes to get a deal in place this week so they are able to assign him to the CHL to get accustomed to North American hockey. Avtsin was taken in the late rounds of the 2009 Entry draft and the Canadiens believe they have a major steal.

*-> While on the Canadiens it appears they are close to a deal with agitator Maxim Lappierre. Maxim is currently a RFA and is seeking a raise close to 2 million while the Habs only wish to pay between 1.5 and 2. Its expected a deal will be announced by weeks end. Its also reported that the Canadiens are struggling to come to terms with Carey Price. Price is swinging for the fence now that he knows he's the number one guy in Montreal.

Thursday, July 8, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Morning

*-> Patrick Lalime has signed a 1 year deal with the Buffalo Sabres to once again become Ryan Millers backup.

*-> Next season the Vancouver Canucks will retire Markus Naslunds jersey to the rafters. No player in the organization will no longer be able to don the number 19. Doesn't make too much sense to me, while Naslund was a really good player he's no Trevor Linden and while he also put up points his leadership could have been better especially through the Steve Moore saga.

*-> Brett Lebda signed a 2 year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs yesterday. The deal us worth 1.4 million per season. This leaves many question marks as the Leafs have an abundance of defenseman now. Its almost certain Kaberle and another defenseman will be moved. Jeff Finger is also expected to be bought out to clear cap and room.

*-> Petr Sykora formerly of the Minnesota Wild is looking at heading to Russia. Sykora hasn't attracted any interest from any NHL clubs but he's had several offers from KHL teams. Lokimotiv leads the pack and he's expected to sign before the weeks done.

*-> The Ilya Kovalchuk bidding war is still on the go. It appears that Kovalchuk isn't quite done with the Kings and allowed them to reenter the bidding war. It is believed to be between the Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings and the New Jersey Devils. The Thrashers still have interest as do the Islanders but the Islanders reported offer of 10 million in 10 years was false but they are willing to pay 8 for 10. Kovalchuks Russian agent has said don't count out the KHL he seriously has interest in playing in russia but only if its for 4 years. He went on to say Kovalchuk is leaning towards the NHL but if his goal is reached Ilya will return home.

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

*-> Evgeni Nabokov has officially signed a deal in the KHL. The deal is reportedly 2 years for 5 million a season with SKA St. Petersberg. Its reported he has an NHL opt out clause in case there still might be any suitors later on.

*-> The Ottawa Senators have signed former Ottawa 67 Corey Locke to a 2 way deal. Locke should help out Bingo out offensively.

*-> Rob Niedermayer signed with the Buffalo Sabres yesterday.

*-> The Boston Bruins have signed Nolan Schaefer to a 2 way deal to help add some goaltending depth. Nolan played last season for CSKA Moscow.

*-> Incase anybody missed it Jaroslav Halak has signed a 4 year deal worth 15 million dollars overall. The deal works out to 3.75$ per season.

Monday, July 5, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Late Monday Night

*-> Ilya Kovalchuk is reportedly set to sign a deal with the New Jersey Devils late tonight. The deal is reportedly worth 60 million over 7 years. There's still no confirmation that he has signed or will but it has been reported in the New York Post, TSN and Sportnet. Ilya Kovalchuks agent Jay Grossman announced on his twitter that Iyla is close to signing tonight. will have to stay tuned. anything is still possible however.

*-> American legend Mike Modano is reportedly thrilled at the interest being shown in him in a recently interview and said it's not the decesion whether or not to sign with a certain team right now its where or not it's the right decesion to play. Modano has also told the media that the Detroit Red Wings are persuing him hard and he's flattered by their interest. He'd love to play for the Wings and considers them a great team.

*-> Nikolai Zherdev is rumored to be speaking to the Buffalo Sabres about a possible return to the NHL. Several teams have been interested but apparently he has a major 4 million dollar contract being offered to him overseas persumably the KHL. TSN has broke the news the Leafs have had no interest in Zherdev from day one.

*-> Brett Clark has signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

*-> The Vancouver Canucks have told the Vancouver media their not looking to shop Kevin Bieksa. It appears the Nucks will wait to see what the markets like during training camp and what their cap situation looks like.

*-> The Los Angeles Kings have reportedly started talking to several teams about trade possibilities now that they are officially out of the Kovalchuk running. A conversation has taken place between the two teams about defenseman Tomas Kaberle. Some are saying they have an offer out their but the Leafs are asking the Kings to take back Mikhail Grabovsky also in a deal. The Kings have also spoken to the Flyer inreguards to Simon Gagne. The Kings are the leader for the French Canadian winger as the Flyers look desperately to shed cap.

*-> SKA St. Petersberg has made a 5 million dollar offer it's reported to Evgeni Nabokov. Nabokov is reportedly still waiting for am NHL team to come knocking. some are saying Washington is still talking to Nabby as are the Flyers.

*-> Turco has told the media he has several offers and he has faith he'll be signed. Some sources have said he has a verbal agreement with the Flyers and it hinges on them sheding cap space.

Ice Scoopz: Monday Morning

*-> The Ilya Kovalchuk bidding continues today after taking the weekend off. Ilya Kovalchuk has yet to make a decision but has knocked off a team from his list. The Russian sniper has officially told the LA management he will not be signing in Los Angeles. Dean Lombardi announced the news Saturday night, the same day TSN has reported that the New York Islanders had put in a 10 million dollar deal for Kovi over a massive 10 years. Its believed his decision will come shortly but their still are a few teams bidding on the superstar. SKA St. Petersberg has revealed they have an offer on the table for Kovalchuk while New Jersey, Atlanta, Long Island and now its believed the Philly Flyers have all made offers. A lot of the free agency weighs on Kovalchuks shoulders and its expected several dominos will fall once he is signed. Many are saying that a decision could be reached as early as this afternoon.

Saturday, July 3, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Saturday Morning

*-> Reports out of Philly have Simon Gagne willing to waive his no trade clause if the Flyers find a suitable deal. The player has confirmed these rumors. Its believed the Tampa Bay Lightning are trying to strike a deal for the injury prone Gagne as reported earlier. The Flyers are desperately trying to clear cap space. The rumor has them still searching for a goalie but are against the cap. GM Paul Holmgren has told the media he is happy with the goaltending he has now. As for the Lightning it is unknown what the return could be but many are speculating it could be one of the many Lightning goalies in limbo in Europe and a high pick.

*-> The Leafs have reportedly been in touch with Maxim Afinogenov and his agent since Canada Day aka Day 1 of Free Agent Frenzy aka July 1st. Toronto is still looking for that top 6 offensive forward and a number 1 center. If the Leafs can get Max cheap he may be able to fill that offensive forward role although he is not a Brian Burke still player at all. There are also reports he has several offers in the KHL including Dynamo Minsk and UFA.

*-> Big time rumors of Kevin Bieksa of Vancouver being dangled around the league. Buffalo has been inquiring as have the New York Islanders. Trade talks with the Columbus Blue Jackets have reportedly stalled with the Jackets now asking for Christian Ehrhoff instead of Bieksa.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Evening

Lots more signings to announce plus a few rumors for you digest with your supper.

*-> Mathieu Lombardi is now a Nashville Predator. Lombardi signed a 3 year deal worth 10.5$ million. The speedy center will take over much of the offensive role for the Preds.

*-> The Edmonton Oilers have found their enforcer after 2 days of bidding. The Oilers have decided to bring back tough guy Steve MacIntyre for another season. The terms of the deal were unannounced but we do know it is a 1 year 1 way deal.

*-> The Edmonton Oilers have also resigned Jason Strudwick to a 1 year deal as well as they have comes to terms with AHLer Richard Petiot. The Petiot is a 2 way 1 year deal.

*-> The Florida Panthers have signed Chris Higgins to a 1 year deal worth 1.6$ million hoping the former Canadien will have a bounceback season. Higgins is expected to play a second line role for the cats.

*-> The Buffalo Sabres have resigned forward Cody McCormick to a year deal worth 500K$.

*-> Defenseman Mark Eaton was forced out of Pittsburgh today after he told the team he'd wait a day to see if he was still a fit with the Pens. Turns out Mihalik and Martin both are higher up on the depth chart so Eaton has moved on to the New York Islanders. The Islanders are paying Eaton 2.5$ Mil for 2 seasons for a total of 5$ mil.

*-> The Islanders also bolstered their defense by adding shut down defenseman Milan Jurcina to the fold as well. Jurcina will make 1$ million even for 1 year.

*-> The Islanders have also decided to add some toughness to the lineup by signing former Tampa tough guy Zenon Konopka. Konopka is rumored to be signed at 2 years for 1 million a season but it's not yet been confrimed. While working on toughness the Islanders have also added former New York Ranger prospect P.A Parenteau for a season at 600K$.

*-> The St. Louis Blues have resigned Brad Winchester to a 1 year deal worth 700K.

*-> The Coyotes have signed Andrew Ebbett of the Minnesota Wild.

*-> Ryan Craig has left the Tampa Bay Lightning and signed a 1 year deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins worth 500K$.

*-> The Toronto Maple Leafs have finally come to terms with Russian forward Nikolai Kulemin. The RFa was signed today to a 2 year deal worth 4.7$ Million.

*-> The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed a trio of players to 2 ways deals. Nate Guenin, Kyle Wilson, and Trevor Frischmon have all signed with the Blue Jackets.

*-> Niklas Persson of Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk of the KHL has signed a deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

*-> The Florida Panthers have lured Bill Thomas back to the NHL from Lugano.

*-> Trevor Smith has left the Islanders for the Anaheim Ducks.

*-> Enforcer Jimmy Bonneau has signed and AHL contract to return to the Hamilton Bulldogs after playing a season for the Rochester Americans.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*-> Rumors out of Philly have the Tampa Bay Lightning putting several offers on the table for Simon Gagne yesterday but the Flyers reportedly were unsure of trading Gagne. The Flyers have to make a move to clear some cap space and it is expected ether Jeff Carter, Simon Gagne or Daniel Briere will be dealt. All signs point to Jeff Carter still as the other two have no trade clauses and Jeff Carter is a lot more appealable. The Nashville Predators were looking at Carter but after todays moves expected to pull away from the deal. The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Toronto Maple Leafs should still be interested.

*-> Former Phoenix Coyote Ladislav Nagy is looking at making a return to the NHL after playing a year in the KHL for Severstal Cherepovets. A few teams have reportedly shown interest in Nagy and it's rumored he's willing to sign a "damaged" player discount ala Maxim Afinogenov. He may be worth taking a flyer on if it's under a mil.

*-> The Minnesota Wild have reportedly shown interest in veteran Mike Modano.

*-> I've had several people ask me about free agent Roman Cervenka recently. He bailed on all of the NHL offers he received to play with Jaromir Jagr for the next 2 years in Russia. He signed a 2 year deal with Avangard OMSK of the KHL.

*-> Finally on the Ilya Kovalchuk front, it appears Kovalchuk is sitting on several offers. It's believed the Nashville Predators and the New York based team both have mild interest. It's believed the New York based team is the Islanders just to due cap space and the lack of Ranger cap space. The New Jersey Devils still would like to retain Kovalchuk at the right price it's believed while the Los Angeles Kings have put a decent offer on the table to bring him to Hollywood. Now some teams to think about are the Colorado Avalanche who have an abundance of cap space and Carolina Hurricanes who desperatly need some help up front next season. A big name could rekindle life back into Raleigh. Some are also saying the Sabres but now that Tallinder and Lydman are gone they need defensive help badly and will most likely jump into the Kaberle sweapstakes or take a run at Willie Mitchell or Bieksa. Kovalchuk is believed to be thinking his options over and even milling over several massive KHL offers. The KHL could be very tempting but I believe his heart is in the NHL with the bright lights and big cities and well better competiton. We'll keep our eyes open and wait for this one.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Afternoon

*-> The Edmonton Oilers have placed Sheldon Souray on waivers today after not being able to come to terms with any teams looking to make a deal. The Washington Capitols, New York Islanders and the Buffalo Sabres are still rumored to be interested in the heavy shooting blueliner.

*-> The Phoenix Coyotes have resign RFA Sami Lepisto to a 1 year deal worth 800K$.

*-> The St Louis Blues have told the media they do not have any interest in Ilya Kovalchuk. The Toronto Maple Leafs have also stated that Kovalchuk does not fit into their plans ether. This presumably leaves the Los Angeles Kings, The New Jersey Devils, a New York based team, The Nashville Predators apparently now and several Moscow area KHL teams.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

*-> Pavel Kubina has signed a 2 year deal in Tampa Bay. Its rumored to be worth 4.5. Exact contract is still not known yet.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

Day 2 of Free Agent Frenzy begins today and its all silent on the signing front so far.

*-> Kevin Bieksa is rumored to be on the move. The Vancouver are looking to shed some cap space on the backend. The Canucks have now added Dan Hamhuis to their lineup Bieksa and Willie Mitchell have become expendable. The Columbus Blue Jackets have big time interest.

*-> Bill Guerin has shown interest in returning to the Pittsburgh Penguins but the Pens have asked him to take a major hometown discount to stay with Sidney and the boys. Apparently they'd like him to sign for around 900K. The New York Rangers have shown interest as well in the veteran forward.

*-> Ilya Kovalchuk still hasn't signed reports have him sitting on atleast 3 NHL offers including one from a major darkhorse I'm told. He also has atleast 2 KHL offers. More soon.

- Raffi Torres

*-> I'm hearing Evgeni Nabokov is still hoping for an NHL contract, it looks like the Flyers are still interested but are low balling now with a 2 million per year offer. Ottawa fans I wouldn't be surprised if the Sens got involved in this one if he remains cheap. The Sens need goaltending insurance incase Pascal Leclaire flops. Brian Elliot isn't that guy. Turco and the Washington Capitals are still a possibility.

Well I'm going to take a break to get something to eat and enjoy the rest of Canada Day but I'll be back in a later thanks for tuning in. Anything major I'll post as soon as I get it see you in a few hours or so.
