Its been a busy week over here at Ice Scoopz so I haven't been able to answer everyones comments but I'll be making some time today to answer everyone's inquiries and give feedback on comments.
Here's this mornings news.
*-> The San Jose Sharks are this first team this season to present an offersheet. The Sharks have offered defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson of the Chicago Blackhawks a 4 year deal worth 14 million dollars. If the Chicago Blackhawks don't make the offer in 7 days Hjalmarsson will become a Shark and the Sharks would give up their 1st and 3rd round draft picks in 2010. I'm thinking the Hawks will certainly match this offer but it will once again limit their options in the future.
*-> The Montreal Canadiens are close to a deal with MHL star Alexander Avtsin. Montreal highly covets the young Russian and hopes to get a deal in place this week so they are able to assign him to the CHL to get accustomed to North American hockey. Avtsin was taken in the late rounds of the 2009 Entry draft and the Canadiens believe they have a major steal.
*-> While on the Canadiens it appears they are close to a deal with agitator Maxim Lappierre. Maxim is currently a RFA and is seeking a raise close to 2 million while the Habs only wish to pay between 1.5 and 2. Its expected a deal will be announced by weeks end. Its also reported that the Canadiens are struggling to come to terms with Carey Price. Price is swinging for the fence now that he knows he's the number one guy in Montreal.
