Trade! Tampa Bay > Philly

*-> The official trade has been broken by the league and it has Simon Gagne heading to the Tampa Bay Lightning for the Lightnings 4th round pick and Matt Walker. It turns out that the deal involving Mike Smith was false which makes sense because the Bolts I doubt are ready to part with Smith yet. That's why I say nothings official till you hear it from the team or league this one was floating around all morning andwhile ther Gagne part to TB was right the rest was not. Bad deal for Philly in my mind, I'm sure they could have gotten more out of the Lightning or LA. Does this mean a panic for the Lightning? I'm pretty sure they'll respond with a trade or signing soon to add to their team since they failed to do so with Gagne and Kovalchuk.

Nice move by the Bolts Scoopz, and I would not be surprised if Philly has a Senators 07-08-like follow-up performance.

If I was a super-elite like Kovalchuk, I would have split from Jersey. The team is a shadow of its former self, and the place is a dump. If he enjoys living and playing in dumps, he could have just headed back to Russia for way more cash.....

Kovie, what are you doing? Jersey is everything Tom said and more... or less maybe would be a better description.

But seriously, he didn't exactly set Jersey on fire while he was there did he? He can't stay on a stifling defense-first team like that unless he's the number one banana. Unfortunately, Parise is that guy and I don't see Kovalchuk lasting even half the years of his deal before demanding a trade or booting it home.

And as for Jersey, thanks for tying up all your cap room in Kovie and Volchenkov. The former disappears in big games (really benefitted playing in the weak southeast) and the latter needs to be given tons of time off by his coach if you expect his body to hold up all season. Sens should handle them easily now.

Wow, Kovie will pine for the glory days in ATL when Marty reaches the end...can't see how he'll be happy there within a year or two.

Some sites are reporting it's the previously rumoured $100M over 17 years deal...wonder what it'll take for the NHL to finally crack down on these ridiculous contracts. I have to assume it'll be part of the next round of CBA negotiations.

As for T-Bay, it's no surprise really, but Stevie Y's quickly giving them a chance to contend. He's moved out the perennial underachiever Meszaros and brought in Gagne, Kubina, Clark and Ellis. If Gagne plays ~ 75 games with Vinny, this will be a great deal. Good for the 'Bolts, now with four legitimate Team Canada members....
