Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Evening

*-> It looks like Michael Nylander is attempting to make an NHL comeback after being banished to the AHL then the Swedish Elite League. The Washington Capitols still have Nylander under contract and were on the hook for the rest of the contract until now. It appears Nylander has found a new home according to TSN with the Florida Panthers. The Florida has agreed to take on Michael Nylander and his contract for the season on a loan basis. Nylander still has some talent left but he is expected to be a secondary scoring option and a leadership role.

*-> It's being reported that the Colorado Avalanche have inquired about the avaliability of Jaime Langenbruner of the New Jersey. New Jersey has still yet to make a decision on their cap situation but time is begining to run out. Bryce Salvador appears safe as the Devils like what he brings to the table while others like Dainus Zubrus and Brian Rolston remain in limbo. It's rumored the Blue Jackets still are interested in Rolston while the Islanders also could be an option.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

*-> Slava Kozlov has reportedly signed a deal to play in the KHL this season. After low interest in the Russian veteran around the NHL. Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Late Afternoon

*-> Defenseman Mike Mottau has decided to join the New York Islanders after signing a 1 year deal this afternoon with the club. Mottau said decision was mainly based on getting another chance to play in New York again as now he's played in all 3 New York area teams.

*-> The New York Islanders have also invited several players to attend and finish out the Isles training camp this up coming week. Manny Legace who played last season for the Carolina Hurricanes, Krys Kolanos who played with the Philly Flyers, Dean McAmmond the New Jersey Devils, and Anders Eriksson who split time between the New York Rangers and the Coyotes.

*-> While the Islanders continue to add to their squad and training camp the New York Rangers have trimmed their camp drastically in the last few days. As we all have heard by now Wade Redden was demoted to Hartford but he will have some comapany in the "A" with goaltender Chad Johnson, Evgeni Grachev, Dale Weise and Norweigen superstar Mats Zuccarello. Kris Newbury, Dane Byers, and Jeremy Williams will continue their pro tryouts down in Hartford while Alexei Semenov, Garnett Exelby, Brandon Manning have been released. Semenov is expected to offer continue to shop himself around the NHL before heading back to the KHL. Ruslan Fedotenko has surived the lastest round of cuts and it is believed the Rangers have been impressed with his performance so far.

*-> Yesterday the Montreal Canadiens cleared their training camp roster down to 31 players by sending 21 players down to the Hamilton Bulldogs and sending Louis Leblanc and Jarred Tinordi back to the the CHL. Tinordi will join the London Knights while Louis Leblanc will play for the home town Montreal Juniors. Russian prospect Alexander Avtsin avoided being sent to the CHL and will join Hamilton along with goalies Peter Delmas, Robert Mayer, defensmen Neil Petruic, Kyle Klubertanz, Brendon Nash, Fredric St. Denis, David Urquart, Sebastien Bisaillon, Marc-antoine Desnoyers, Mathieu Carle, forwards J.T Wyman, tough guy Jimmy Bonneau, Andrew Conboy, Danny Masse, Olivier Fortier, Ian Schultz, Gabriel Dumont, Andreas Enqvist, David Desharnais and Aaron Palushaj.

*-> The Buffalo Sabres are in negotiations with prospect Zack Kassian to get a deal done before the season starts.

Ice Scoopz: Sunday Afternoon

*-> The Dallas Stars have told Jere Lehtinen there's no rush in making a decision as they are willing to wait for him to decide. The Stars still haven't finalized a deal with a new owner so Joey Neiwendyk and the Stars are quite happy not adding an additional paycheck to their tab. Lehtinen has told the club he still is unsure but will decide in a few weeks before he hits the ice again. It is also believed he has told management it will be the Stars or nothing giving them way more flexibility and patience.

*-> The Minnesota Wild have inquired about Jose Theodore according to reports. Now that Josh Harding appears done the Wild are looking at an insurance possibilities. I believe they'll give Anton Khodobin at good look first as he played extremely well in the AHL last season and looks backup ready.

*-> The Sabre's are reportedly looking at the depth defense options around the league.

*-> Wade Reddens agent Don Meehan has been told him and his client have several options they could take. The New York brass have told them that they may start searching the NHL for a possible taker including the possibility of re entry waivers, a no show to Hartford so they may void his contract and he can become a free agent or a loan to Europe which may be the best and only option at this point. We'll know soon if the Oilers or any other takers claim him but its very doubtful.

*-> Miroslav Satan is still searching for a new team but only has had interest out of the Czech Liga and the KHL. The Slovakian has hope still for an NHL return and is in no rush as he found a home in Boston late last season and thrived.

Ice Scoopz: Saturday Morning

*-> Wade Redden has been placed on waivers by the New York Rangers this morning. He is expected to clear then be assigned to the Hartford of the AHL. There is a rumor involved where Redden would be placed on waivers then traded to the Oilers for Sheldon Souray. We'll have to stay tuned to see if anything comes of this.

*-> Cristobal Huet has been placed on waivers also by the Chicago Blackhawks. Huet will be loaned to a European club.

*-> Marek Svatos has signed a deal with the KHL club Avangard OMSK.

Friday, September 24, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Noon

*-> The Toronto Maple Leafs have sent seven players down to the AHL this past week as training camps start to get trimmed. Added to the Toronto Marlie roster was Mikhail Stefanovich, Richard Greenop, Justin Hodgeman, Dale Mitchell, Josh Engel, Drew Paris and goalie Andrew Engelage. The Leafs also returned several players to their junior teams. Kenny Ryan to Windsor, Barron Smith to Peterborough, Jesse Devane to Plymouth, ands Josh Nicholls to Saskatoon.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

*-> Kyle McLaren has been cut from the Atlanta Thrashers training camp. McLaren is expected to shop his services around the AHL before acting on any of his European options. Reports have said several Swiss teams remain interested.

*-> Speaking of Swiss teams Lugano is on the verge of signing former NHLer and Chicago Wolve Tim Stapleton to a deal that's expected to be finalized early next weeks.

*-> Mike Liambas has been released from his tryout contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. I'll have a list of releases by several clubs including the Maple Leafs around noon.

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Noon

*-> Veteran Enforcer Brad May has called it quits this morning. After deciding family over another season of a rapidly decreasing ice time May will join the CBC hockey broadcast team.

*-> Yesterday late afternoon Steve Mason came to terms with the Columbus Blue Jackets on a 2 year worth over 5 million overall. Hopefully Mason can rebound after last season.

*-> The Ottawa Senators have invited defenseman Adam Sedlak from the Peterborough Petes to attend their training camp.

*-> Pittsburgh has invited tough guy Jesse Boulerice to attend their camp.

*-> Robert Lang's agent has been reportedly shopping his client around the NHL in hopes he can land another one year contract. The Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators have reportedly already shot him down.

Monday, September 20, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Monday Morning

*-> Just as I finished saying Marc Savard was off the market a rumor broke out saying there's a possible 3 way deal in the works according to several bloggers. The rumore3deal would send Marc Savard to Los Angeles who would in turn send Jason Williams and a pick to Edmonton who would send Sheldon Souray to Boston. To me this deal makes absolutely no sense for any party. First off Boston is looking to dump cap so why would they take back Sheldon Souray unless they had a plan for ether Michael Ryder or Tim Thomas. Second Edmonton would be lucky to get Jason Williams alone in return for Sheldon who could be probably had for almost anything just resolve their situation. LA would be the only team to benifit from this deal. I won't believe this rumor till it goes down. Which leads me on to my second rumor of the day.

*-> Sheldon Souray has been linked to another deal today, this one keeps gaining steam and now has been reported by several media outlets. The rumor features Souray heading to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Now the return has varried. I've heard Mike Commodore's name been thrown in the mix as the Jackets are looking to add offense to their equation. I've also heard that the Blue Jackets and the Oilers have a agreement in place where the Blue Jackets would claim Sheldon Souray from waivers after they review their line-up after their training camp evaluations. These ones seam a lot more feasable than the later.

More In A Bit

Ice Scoopz: Saturday Evening

*-> Former Toronto Maple Leaf Wayne Primeau who has been skating with the Leafs this summer has been asked to audition for the squad during trainging camp. Along with Primeau veteran Ric Jackman who has been playing in Europe the past few seasons will also make the trip.

*-> The Atlanta Thrashers have decided to invite rugged defenseman Kyle McLaren to training camp. McLaren played for the Worchester Sharks all of last season. Ther Thrashers have also invited former Leaf tough guy Andre Deveaux to camp.

*-> The Boston Bruins have given former Blue Jacket Jordan LaVallee a shot.

*-> Brian Roloff of the Providence Bruins and goalie Zane Kalemba of Norfolk have been invited to the Buffalo Sabres camp.

*-> Tyler Arnason of Dimano Riga of the KHL has headed to sunny Florida to try out for the Florida Panthers.

*-> Eric Perrin who also has been playing in the KHL for Avangard OMSK will also be headed to Florida to try out for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

*-> It's been rumored forward Grant Potulny has come out of retirement to tryout for the Chicago Blackhawks.

*-> Mark Popovic is said to be looking at heading to Europe to play for AIK in Sweden if he doesn't crack the main line up.

*-> Radoslav Suchy of HK SKP Poprad of the Cezech Extra Liga has received interest from both Modo and Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League.

*-> Marc Savard of the Boston Bruins has reportedly been taken off the market after it was released that he still is suffering from post concussion syndrome from Matt Cookes hit last season. It looks like the B's will get some relief this fall from the salary camp and will maintain their roster till both Marco Sturm and Marc Savard get back.

Ice Scoopz: Saturday Morning

Many training camp tryout offers to reveal this morning, plus some rumors for the afternoon as well.

*-> Mark Parrish who played played mostly in the minors for the Tampa Bay Lightning last season has agreed to try out for the Buffalo Sabres.

*-> Former Florida Panther Nick Tarnasky has agreed to attend the Chicago Blackhawks camp this week. The Hawks have also invited Rastislav Pavilkovksy of Orebro of the Czech Extra Liga.

*-> Speedster Enver Lisin has agreed to try out for the Atlanta Thrashers. the Thrashers had good luck with resurecting Maxim Afinoganovs career last season so this may work out.

*-> Tough guy Adam Mair will be attending the New Jersey Devils camp.

*-> Goaltender Jordan Parise has been invited to try out for the New York Rangers. The Blue shirts have also invited defenseman Blake Parlett. Remember last season when Alexei Semenov signed with the Rangers last season and was forced due to family reasons to pull out of the deal and head back to Russia? Well Semenov is back in North America and has hopes or rejoining the Rangers after a season in the KHL.

*-> Big Swede Andreas Lilja will be attending the San Jose training camp looking to sign on as their much needed depth defenseman. He has probably one of the best shots at cracking a line up out of all the TC invitees in my opinion.

*-> Joe DiPienta has agreed to try out for the Anaheim Ducks once again.

*-> Matt Hendricks formerly of the Colorado Avalanche will be trying out for the Washington Capitals in hopes of be added to the system.

*-> The Anaheim Ducks will also be giving forward Stephane Veilleux a shot.

Thats all for now but I'll have some more training camp news this afternoon with some rumors.

Friday, September 17, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

*-> Brendan Morrison is attempting to earn a contract with his former team the Vancouver Canucks after accepting a training camp offer from the team.

*-> Lucas Krajicek is headed to the Czech Extra Liga after being the odd man out in Philly this season. He's signed on with HC Trinec.

*-> Several reports last night have Patrick O'Sullivan signing with the Carolina Hurricanes on a 1 year but 2 way contract.O'Sullivan could rebound his career with this fresh start but the Hurricanes may not the be the best location for a career year or ever a comeback season.

*-> As mentioned earlier this week Paul Mara has officially signed with the Anaheim Ducks for 750K for the year.

*-> The Dallas Stars have resigned RFA's Matt Niskanen and James Neal. Neal will make 2.87$ mil for 2 years which works out to 5.75$ mil overall while Niskanen's cap hit is 1.5$ million also over two years (3$ mil total). Both contracts are both financially responsable which works out extremely well for the Stars. One would have to wonder though if the Stars should have or could have pushed for a longer exstention on Neal as he will be a key fixture in their future.

*-> Jose Theodore's agent has told the media his client will not be attending any training camps this fall and could have a deal in place once camps are over. He also stated his client is the best option out there and therefore on that basis alone he doesn't have to attend any as offers will come to him. Theodore is one of the best out there which is agreed but he's going to have to drop is asking price to a bargain and accept a way lesser role before he even gets close to a contract. it could be a long season for Theo especially since he clearly isn't commited to proving himself and relying on name value alone.

*-> Kyle Wellwood's agent has told Phoenix media that if his client doesn't make the Coyotes out of camp he most likely will head to Europe. He has several offers on the table but the NHL is his number one concern right now. Not many teams are interested in Wellwood due to his size his agent reports.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Morning

*-> Eric Belanger has finally landed himself an new team, the Phoenix Coyotes signed the defensive forward to a 1 year deal late last night. Terms of the deal were unannounced but rumored to be just over the million mark. Good signing for the Yotes.

*-> Brian McGratton has received a training camp invitation from the Boston Bruins and will attend their camp this year.

*-> Christoph Schubert fomerly of the Ottawa Senators, and more recently the Atlanta Thrashers has signed a deal to play in Frolunda for this season putting his NHL career on hold.

*-> Defenseman Tom Preissing has also decided to pack up his gear and head overseas. Preissing has signed a deal with Karpat of the SM Liiga then was loaned to Barys Astana of the KHL almost right away.

*-> Rumors have Paul Mara talking to the Anaheim Ducks about a possible signing. It's believed the Ducks are trying to sway Mara into attending their camp so they can get a good look rather than a signing.

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Afternoon

*-> Bill Guerin has agreed to a try out with the Philadelphia Flyers despite his anti-tryout comments earlier this week. It's still going to be a tight fit with Phillys cap against the wall but he might be able to play himself into the attention of another team.

*-> Bobby Ryan and the Anaheim Ducks have finally ended their summer long contract battle. Ryan has agreed to a 5 year deal with Anaheim worth 5.1 million per season or 25.5$ million total. Ryans name was heating up again last night in the rumor mills as the Ducks were reportedly worried over the terms. It looks like a late night negotiating session paid off instead of a deal. 5.1$ is still steap for Ryan as it looks like he got his asking price but the Ducks managed to get him long term so if Bobby Ryan tears this deal will be in Anaheims favor.

*-> Peter Forsberg still refuses to call it a career. Forsberg who has been in the spotlight after Colorado announced he'll be attending their 1996 Cup win aniversary has told the media he still hasn't ruled out a return to the NHL this season. While Forsbergs foot still hasn't fully healed he has hope he'll find new equipment that will atleast allow him to play comfortably. Forsberg has no plans to attend any training camps this fall but will look to suit up again in the Swedish elite League.

*-> More headlines for Islander prospect Kirill Kabanov as he was late yesterday dfor the Islanders rookie camp. The Isles management therefore benched him for the session as disapline. There has been reports of Kabanov missing his flight as the reason for his tardyness. Just another bad headline for the talented Russian but it appears he's atleast trying to head in the right direction as he's mended the bridges with the Moncton Wildcats and intends on playing the season with them unless the Islanders come knocking or they send him to Bridgeport of the AHL. One positive among the many negatives but personally I feel his situation isn't as bad as the media has spun it out to be. His above the rest attitude doesn't help but it's just been a series or bad luck from a season ending wrist injury, to a battle with the KHL/Russian Federation, to an imposing father. It sounds a little like Big E and he turned out alright after he matured. What do you guys think?

*-> Sheldon Souray will not be attending the Edmonton Oilers camp he and Steve Tambellini has told the media. It looks like the Oilers are knee deep in this Souray situation and are going to have to step up the trade talks otherwise their looking at a buyout or a demotion and an even more disgruntled Souray speaking his mind.

Monday, September 13, 2010

Ice Scoopz: Monday Morning

*-> Niklas Bergfors and the Atlanta Thrashers have come to terms this morning. The deals length has yet to be revealed but its rumored that its worth 900K per year. I suspecting a 2 year deal.

*-> Ruslan Fedotenko has been invited to the New York Rangers camp. Last week we knew they were speaking and now it appears Fedotenko may have a chance at cracking the Big Apples line up. The Rangers need offensive depth badly if prospects cannot step up during camp so its a good possibility.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Evening

A late night last night followed by a slow day today, a few RFA signings but not much else happening. Yesterdays Spartak vs CSKA KHL game was a highlight last night and it appears Dominik Hasek isn't ready to slow down yet. He stole the show in his first appearance for Spartak and along with Alexander Suglobov's 3 point performance they helped Spartak cruise to an easy win.

*-> Bill Guerin has admitted some he's recieved some interest from the Flyers but they are looking to invite him to their camp before an offer is made. guerin isn't looking for an invite but a definate contract offer. The Flyers are interested in the vet but they only have under 900K to spend. Guerin is reportedly seeking 1 million for the year. The Isles still have major interest as well.

*-> Derek Meech of the Detroit Red Wings has cleared waivers and will be reassigned to Grand Rapids of the AHL. However Meech will be invited back to camp where he'll get a legit shot at making the roster before another demotion or a trade attempt.

*-> Silly rumors out of Toronto that has the Toronto Maple Leafs dealing Tomas Kaberle to the New Jersey Devils with a 3rd round draft pick for Jaime Langenbruner, Brian Rolston and a 1st round draft pick. Not only does this sound ridiculous for both parties it does not make any sense at all. I can't see the Leafs who are also tight against the cap making that kind of move that really doesn't help there rebuild except for the 1st. Burkes not that stupid to fall for that one.

*-> Danius Zubrus of the New Jersey Devils has acknowledged that he may be traded to help resolve the Devils Kovalchuk cap situation. Bryce Salvador is ttracting interest but the Devils woukld now prefer to keep him.

Ice Scoopz: Lunchtime

*-> 2010 1st round draft pick (#4 overall) Ryan Johansen has signed a 3 year Entry level deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets this morning. Johansen will leave the Portland Winterhawks this week to attend Columbus's training camp hoping to crack their lineup.

*-> Gregg McKegg of the Erie Otters, the Toronto Maple Leafs 3rd round draft pick in 2010 has signed a deal with the Buds and will attend the Leafs camp next week.

*-> The Ottawa Senators have signed or invited undrafted forward Shawn Szydlowski also from the Erie Otters to training camp this morning. While it's undoubtful Szydlowski will come close to cracking the lineup he's being seen as a work in progress with the potential of becoming a key roleplayer. Ottawa has had good luck with signing undrafted players in the past so lets hope it continues.

*-> The Boston Bruins have also added an undrafted CHL player this morning. France born Antoine Roussel has been signed by the B's from the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the Q.

*-> Last night the Chicago Blackhawks signed former Oiler Ryan Potulny to a 2 year 2 way deal worth 500K. The Hawks hopes to add some grit to their back half after losing several key role players this past offseason.

*-> TSN has confirmed that longtime Islander Richard Park has signed with Geneve-Servette of the Swiss league as first reported on Ice Scoopz.

*-> The New Jersey Devils are rumored to be looking at Swedish winger Marcus Nilson of Djurgarden of the SEL. I'm not too sure the Devil's should be looking at acuiring more players when they already are having cap issues.

*-> The New York media is reporting that Marc Staal and the Rangers are extremely close to deal. The Blue Shirts and Staal have been working overtime to get a deal done before training camp starts next week. It's been rumored that the Rangers are shopping the young defenseman incase a deal cannot be reached on time. The Flames and the Sharks are reportedly interested.

*-> Kirk Maltby has signed a 1 year deal on a two way contract with the Detroit Red Wings as rumored. Maltby will start the season off with Grand Rapids of the AHL til the Wings have cap space avaliable.

*-> Nigel Dawes has reportedly signed a 1 year deal 2 way deal with the Atlanta Thrashers. Several major news outlets has confirmed the deal with the price tag of 600K for the year.

More rumors this afternoon.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Late Afternoon

*-> Reports have Kyle Wellwood signing a deal with the Phoenix Coyotes. I've heard this one all morning and waited to post it. I'm being told he is definately involved with the Coyotes. Some are saying its a 1 year deal while another source has said its only a training camp invite. We'll have to wait and see on this one.

*-> The New York Rangers are talking with Ukrainian winger Ruslan Fedotenko about adding some offensive depth. While nothing has been confirmed it's believed their talking contract not invite.

*-> Josh Caron and J.T Barnett of the Kamloops Blazers have signed entry level deals with the Minnesota Wild this morning.

*-> The Washington Capitols are close to luring over Russian prospect Dmitri Orlov to play in North America. It's said the Caps are looking to add him straight to the main roster as they feel he's ready for the show after a short AHL "conditioning" stint.

*-> The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed prospect Michael Liambas from the Bloomington Prarie Thunder.

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Late Afternoon

*-> The Montreal Canadiens have signed veteran Jeff Halpern to a 1 year deal. Terms were not yet disclosed Sportsnet reports. Decent signing for the Habs as Halpern will help ease the pain of special teams with the lose of both Dominic Moore and Glen Metropolit.

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Late Afternoon

*-> It appears defensive specialist Richard Park is fielding offers from European clubs as he's not attracting much interest in North America. The latest team to show the Korean some interest is Geneve-Servette of the Swiss liga.

*-> Cristoph Shubert is also having a hard time finding work for the season and has an offer currently on the table from Mannheim of the DEL. He's still hoping for a training camp offer or a 1 way deal.

*-> Shaun Heshka who played last season for the Phoenix Coyotes last season has signed a deal with EC Salzburg putting his NHL career on hold for the time being.

Ice Scoopz: Labour Day Monday

I hope everyone is enjoying their Labour Day and a having a nice relaxing day off. I was hoping to go out and do some fishing but here in the Capital its raining to continue the trend from the past few days. Oh well lots of work to do as NHL training camps are set to kick off next week. On that note a few minor rumors and a signing to report today. Later this evening I'll post the dates and locations of all the NHL teams training camps. I'll also be posting starting this week the start of my Canadien 6 preview/ my Be A GM for each of the Canadian clubs. Plus stay tuned to Ice Scoopz for the usual rumors and signing plus I'll be reporting on all 30 teams trainging camp invites.

*-> The Atlanta Thrashers have signed veteran winger Fredrik Modin to a 1 year deal. The Thrashers organization has yet to release the financial terms of the deal but it's expected it is worth 1.5$ million.

*-> Jonathan Cheechoo has been invited to the Dallas Stars training camp and has accepted their invitation.

*-> It's rumored Shean Donovan will once again attend the Ottawa Senators training camp after not being able to find a deal in the NHL or in Europe. The invitation has yet to be confirmed but many Ottawa media sources have reported this one. He was set to sign a deal in Finland but the deal fell through after he took too long deciding. I recently watched a pickup game featuring Shean Donovan and it looks like he still has something to offer any NHL team looking for 4th line and depth help.

*-> The New Jersey Devils are pushing defenseman Bryce Salvador and center Danius Zubrus around the league attempting to get back under the cap after the Ilya Kovalchuk signing. Salvador is being looked at by the Dallas Stars and the Los Angeles Kings while Zubrus is getting a look from the Columbus Blue Jackets. The New Jersey management has said they are open to demotions if the situation is in need. Can you say Alexander Mogilny?

*-> The San Jose Sharks have told Owen Nolan they do not have interest in the veteran winger as he continues to skate with them. Nolan is still looking for work but is optimistic about finding a role with an NHL team. Its rumored the Hawks are interested if the price is right as are the St. Louis Blues.

*-> Former San Jose Shark Jed Ortimayer is getting some interest also from the Hawks but its reported he's seeking a 1 way deal while all offers so far have been 2 way deals.

Ice Scoopz: Friday Afternoon

*-> Mike Comrie's destination is now known. The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced they have signed the veteran center to a 1 year 500K deal. Good deal for the Pens with Jordan Staal out and with a bargain price of under a million its a steal.

*-> Chris Stewart has resigned with the Colorado Avalanche this morning. The deal is worth 3 million dollars per season and 6 million over 2 seasons.

*-> The Detroit Red Wings have acknowledged they have put an offer on the table for veteran Kirk Maltby and are waiting a response. The deal is rumored to be worth 850K for 1 year and on a 2 way clause.

*-> David Kolomatis has signed a 1 year 2 way deal with the Los Angeles Kings after playing for their AHL affiliate Manchester.

*-> The Boston Bruins signed Wyatt Smith.

*-> While on the subject of the Boston Bruins, center Marc Savard has been told he is longer on the block by GM Peter Cherielli. Savard has been the subject of trade rumors all summer long and was rumored to be upset with his treatment. Its still rumored he's unhappy with the organization about the handling of his situation but with his options limited by his no trade clause he has no choice but to try and repair the issues with his club. Savards a classy guy and it looks like he's going be a Bruin this season unless he asks for a deal.

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Afternoon

*-> Bill Guerin has been skating with the Philly Flyers the past week but has told the Philly media that they shouldn't read too much into it as it was arranged while still negotiating with the Pens. He didn't rule out a possible signed but pointed out the Bullies are against the cap. The Flyers management has admitted to looking at Guerin but has said nothing major. Many teams have offered the veteran a training camp spot but he is only willing to accept a contract.

*-> The Montreal Canadiens have finally signed Carey Price. I heard whispers of this one this morning but thought it was premature as the major news networks released articles on Price being far from a deal and they were still grinding away on it. The deal is a 2 year deal but the financial terms are still cloudy. I'm hearing its 2.65 from several sources and 3.5 from several other rumor jockeys. If its 2.65 that's a pretty decent deal for the Habs.

*-> The major news sources have finally confirm our reports of Niemi to the Sharks, the deal is worth 2 mil. I bet the Hawks must be pretty peeved.

*-> Jere Lehtonen is contemplating retirement after his latest meeting with the Stars management. The defensive specialist has interest from around the league but he's a Star or nothing I'm hearing.

*-> I'm also hearing some news on the Sens pushing Mike Fisher around the league, I'll keep my ears open for this one.

Congrats to Tom for winning the Be A GM contest although it was extremely close! I was really impressed with all the entries and next time around they'll be more contestants and a way tougher challange now that you all know what to expect.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Evening

*-> The Buffalo Sabres have resigned Matt Ellis to 1 year on a 2 way contract. The Terms have yet to be released by the Sabres brass.

*-> Annti Niemi is reportedly close to a deal with the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks have had high interest in the Finnish goaltender since he was let walk by the Hawks. This could mean bad news for Chicago as they will have all their chips riding on Corey Crawford and an aging Turco if the Huet loan goes down. Especially because the Hawks had interest in bringing back Niemi as their number 1 once the cap issue witgh Huet was fixed. The Niemi signing is expected to be announced as early as this evening. What does that mean for Nittymaki and Greiss? We'll see later on tonight if this rumored signing is correct or not. I'm hearing this one from multiple European sources plus several other rumor pundits so I'm leaning towards a yes on this one.

*-> Still no news on Mike Comrie, this one appears to be premature.

*-> Nikolai Khabibulin is getting 30 days behind bars for his DUI last Spring. No news yet on where or not the Oilers would distance themselves from this one. Early news reported the Oilers were looking to get rid of the Bulin Wall but now it appears they might stand by him.

Trade! Atlanta -» Nashville

*-> The Atlanta Thrashers and the Nashville Predators have traded prospects today. The Preds dealt forward Ian McKenzie to the Thrashers in exchange for defenseman Grant Lewis.

*-> Nashville also added depth to their defense core by adding defenseman Aaron Johnson to their lineup. Its believed to be a 1 year 2 way deal.
