Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

*-> The Montreal Canadiens are reportedly talking to Bill Guerin about a possible signing. The American winger has yet to receive an offer from any National Hockey League team thus far. Speculation has been fueled wigth Montreal dumping camp space however I feel the deal was made due to over crowding and the fact Picard has impressed management.

*-> Boston is on the verge of doing something it's being said. Could be a cap clearing move now that Savard is skating again.

More in a bit.

Guerin would be awesome for a lot of teams... But everyone is so close to the cap it doesn't work. Be nice if there were a cap exemption that let teams sign a guy mid-year... Bettman used to be an NBA guy check out some of their ideas...

It would be nice if there was some cap exemption for re-signing your own guys, particularly players teams were responsible for drafting.

If there was a small exemption for re-signings, it would help teams keep their core together. Good for players, teams and fans.

All that said, I think Guerin's tank is empty. Some team, especially one with an injury or in need of some "secondary" scoring may give him $1M pro-rated, but I'm very doubtful he'll help.

Cool ideas, lads; the exemption, a loyalty type bonus.
Ill throw another out there. The NHLPA's main mission is to support career development of the pros. They could write into the next CBA (for example) that players with 15yrs+ experience who are unsigned by December take half of the cap hit for the salary. Everyone wins, including the fans who get to see their old favorites who can clearly still compete. Its also good for the competitiveness of the league, as Bill Guerin should be playing (for now...)
Any thoughts on these 3 ideas Scoopz?
