Trade! Carolina -> Calgary

*-> A little late but here it is, the Calgary Flames have traded Ian White and Brett Sutter for Anton Babchuk and Tom Kostopolous.

Great deal for the Flames, they not only get rid of another headache headline they don't need in Sutter and bring in a big point shot and a reliable powerplay quarterback. Not only that but they bring in a vocal dressing room guy as well, something they badly need. The Canes fare fairly well as well but a lot of the deal banks on Ian White being able to adapt to their style unlike he did in Cowtown and work the pp but they already have that in Corvo and had it in Babchuk. They do get a project prospect who could develop a little more with the right guidance.

As a Leaf Fan Scoopz, just wanted to point out that Maurice gave White a lot of ice time in Toronto in his early years. I always thought they worked well together.

In addition, he joins Jay Harrison in Carolina, also an ex-Leaf from the Maurice Era.

Good point Joe,
I don't think this is as one sided as it seems. White is a formidable defenceman who should help any team in the league. The Canes could do well with him.

Babchuk has been a solid fantasy pick the last few years he's actually played as well. From a D standpoint its a good trade for both teams looking to shake up their rosters.

The real intriguing part is Sutter. Not too many GMs would trade their own sons, but good on Sutter for making an impartial decision here.

Be interesting to see if Sutter makes this trade because he thinks he's about to get sacked. I mean, his cousin Brandon is a big piece of Carolina and might be able to settle his family member down here. Time will tell.

Good point Joe, the Maurice connection could have played a major point in this one. While White is a one dimensional player his regained confidence with a new system and old coach could help him better his overall game.

Always a pleasure CA, well put. Brandon Sutter could be a factor in helping his cousin settle down and find his game. I recently heard that GM Sutter was unwilling to part with his son in the previous talks with Carolina but after the incident he was open for a deal. Carolina has reportedly been after Sutter for quite some time, how true this rumor is I don't know but it sounds like it has some truth. GM Sutter most likely had to make the deal to save his reputation as you put it CA. Thanks for the comments guys keep it up.
