*-> Sheldon Souray was placed on re-entry waivers again despite a lack of interest from around the league. The word is that GM Steve Tambellini is hoping the latest surge of trades for defensemen might spark a panic and maybe one of the losers in the bidding may take a risk on Souray at half price. The New York Rangers were considering Souray and his big point shot but their scouts left Hersey unimpressed and now it appears the New York Rangers would like ether Sergei Gonchar or Filip Kuba from the Ottawa Senators. The Vancouver Canucks are also looking for a defenseman but unless they can dump cap back the Oilers way but it's said that the Canucks are only looking at bringing in a depth guy for under a million dollars. The Blue Jackets are also looking for a big shot and pucking moving d-man for the PP but they too already have their own disgruntled defenseman in the minors and would be doubtful they'd take a rick and add a second. The Hawks are still looking for a shut down defenseman and it appears they've targeted veteran Steve Montador of the Buffalo Sabres. Dallas can be added to the list of teams looking for an offensive d-man but they have an internal cap to deal with and would be looking at cheap solution as well. The 3 teams I wouldn't rule out however are the Preds, Caps and Leafs.
*-> With the St. Louis Blues now on the outside looking in Brad Boyes's name keeps getting into into the mix. The Blue have clearly become sellers by trading away captain Eric Brewer and also dealing away prized young defender Erik Johnson. Many are wondering who could be next on the Blues to go. Brad Boyes has attracted some interest so far but with many of the big fish dropping so soon his value could go up at the deadline. Any team looking for secondary scoring could take a look at Boyes, not only is he a competent center he can also play the wing. He still has another year on his deal so that too could be a plus as he wouldn't just be a deadline day rental if the team has the cap space to afford Boyes. Back-up Ty Conklin has also been rumored to be available for teams wanting a veteran backup but with some many teams already shopping goaltenders the market is flooded. The Red Wings may be the best candidate for Conklin as they've had a previous relationship but the Wings from what I'm hearing want a goaltender on a two-way deal or doesn't mind being the third man out when Chris Osgood returns.
*-> Last night Pierre LeBrun said that during his discussion with the Aves management they told him Milan Hedjuk although is in a unrestricted free agent will not be moved anywhere.
*-> Jonas Gustafsson is back on the ice practicing so the Toronto Maple Leaf's man hunt for 2 more goalies will not happen. However it's said the Leafs would still like a second goalie for the minors and till Jussi Rynnas is ready to go. The plan seams to be trade Gustafsson as soon as their depth problem is fixed. The Islanders almost had the Monster in a deal till his latest heart setback.
