Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Afternoon

*-> A Report this afternoon have a deal almost done between the New York Rangers and the Florida Panthers for defenseman Bryan McCabe. Source close to the Rangers have reported this rumor is false and there's nothing new to report. The Rangers have had their eyes on several defensemen Sergei Gonchar, Filip Kuba and McCabe the past few weeks but reports had talks extremely close with the Panthers. As of 3pm today Bryan McCabe has yet to waive his no movement clause.

*-> I'm hearing Chris Neil and the Rangers could be a fit.

*-> The Montreal media is reporting that defenseman Jaroslav Spacek will miss the remainder of the regular season with the injury he suffered several weeks ago. This could mean Montreal could be back in the hunt for a defenseman as it would leave them with now 3 regulars on the shelf for their backend.

*-> Speaking for defensemen, the Boston Bruins are looking to add a depth veteran defenseman as insurence incase one of their young blueliners falter. They will not pay a heavy price and the deal would have to be cap compliant. Craig Rivet only has 850K left to pay out on his salary so could be an option should the Sabre's decided to shop the soon to be free agent.

*-> Nothing new out of Buffalo except the sale has been finalized and the new owner Mr. Pegula has said he's willing to spend money to get Buffalo back to being a premier team. No word on Tim Connolly or his stance on what to do with UFAs leading up to the post season but it appears the same, only contracts and their not sellers. Minnesota is rumored to now be in the mix for Connolly as Mikko Koivu will miss the remainder of the regular season.

*-> Ray Shero the GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins has told the media another move could be in the cards closer to the deadline. It's expected he'll bring in another forward he said, Alexei Kovalev anyone? Some rumors have the Kovalev talks dating as far back as December but the Pens arn't fully sold on the Russian sniper yet.
