Some big rumors and news for early this evening after a slow afternoon. I got my first look at the new site as it's being built and I was really impressed and excited. A slick new look with the same old feel is how I best describe it. Lots of new and exciting feature as well. I'm looking to be fully moved in and up and running Mid May just time time to start the big Entry Draft push. Anyways on to the rumors.
*-> Not so much a rumor but it is news, the Atlanta Thrashers have re-signed Dustin Byfuglien to a 5 year deal worth 26 milli8on dollars overall which works out to a cap hit of 5.2$ million per year. No doubt the Thrashers wanted to get this one out of the way before moving forwards.
*-> Major news out of Toronto today, it appears that Tomas Kaberle and his agent have told Brian Burke he is willing to accept a trade to the Boston Bruins. GM Burke told the Toronto media he indeed has spoken to Boston about the player in question but that's all he can say because the player and the agent would like to keep the negotiations quiet. He also said all the teams involved have respect their wishes so this could mean there still is multiple teams involved. Both Sportsnet and TSN are saying the Bruins are the only team that Kaberle so far has waived his no trade clause for but I'm still hearing there could be a couple of teams still in the mix. I think Burkes words also hint another team or teams could be involved as well. Burke could however have a deal in place with the Boston Bruins already and has asked Kaberle about the Bruins. Burke could also be trying to use this as leverage as only one team is involved so the return could be low without any bidding. The Canadiens, Rangers and the Capitals have been linked as well. Does this mean any possible negotiations with the Senators are now on hold? It's believed that the Tomas Kaberle to Boston deal does not involve the 1st round pick Toronto traded in the Kessel deal but Mark Stuart and Blake Wheeler both have come up in discussion.
*-> Chris Phillips has yet to be asked to waive his no trade clause as of 5pm today. It's said Murray has had talks with Phillips but Phillips has yet to get back to him still.
*-> No new news on the Los Angeles / Florida talks but I'm now hearing that the New Jersey Devils are also looking at Florida for a possible deal.
*-> the Devils Jason Arnott has said that he has had brief talks with Devils management but nothing official about waiving his no trade clause. Arnott said that in the end it's still his decision though. The Canadiens and the Penguins have been listed as two teams looking for some veteran support as well as a center, a physical center in the Canadiens case.
