I hope everyone had a good Valentines day, the Leafs and the Flyers sure did. I thought the deal was a good move by both teams although I don't think Versteeg comes with as much offense as advertised. The Flyers are looking for some depth so he'll be a great fit plus he played amazing in the playoffs last year and is a good dressing room guy. It's very rare that both teams win a deal but Burke did as promised and brought a 1st round draft pick back to the Toronto organization. The only thing I didn't like was the quick turnaround they pulled on Kris Versteeg but thats business. Anyways here's a couple quick ones left over from last night and a couple to start this Tuesday morning off.
*-> After that brief flurry of rumors out of LA on Sunday concerning their prospects being removed off the website, the organization has said that Brayden Schenn is untouchable and isn't being shopped or even mentioned in deals. That's what I figured, the website was probably undergoing maintenance and a few guys on hockey forums caught wind at 3 in the morning and spun these tales.
*-> After the Kris Versteeg deal rumors are saying that the Flyers arn't done dealing yet but are looking to move some cap space first before they try and bring in more for a serious Cup run. The Flyers are still trying to shop Nikolai Zherdev to clear up cap space and some are saying the trade for Versteeg could signal that the Flyers may be ready to part with Ville Leino instead of going through a contract war with the player. Zherdev's interest has dwindled as of late and it's going to be hard to find a taker for the inconsistent winger while Leino could attract lots of interest after his playoff performance last year.
*-> The Los Angeles Kings and the Florida Panthers are in talks, it's said the Kings now are in the mix for Stephen Weiss along with the Montreal Canadiens. The Kings have been scouting the Panthers for over a month now many are saying.
*-> The Coyotes are rumored to be on phones as well as it appears the organization has made the decision they'll look to add instead of subtract this post season.
