Ice Scoopz: Thursday Evening

*-> It looks like the Ottawa Senators marriage with Jason Spezza is on the rocks according to several media outlets. Jason Spezza has often been the Ottawa areas scape goat in recent years and now it has been rumored he's fed up with it. A report has indicated that he has had conversations with GM Bryan Murray in the past weeks and he was very upset about being the franchises whipping boy. Bryan Murray has confirmed this but would not go any further than to just say Jason's frustrated with being booed by the fans and loves playing in Ottawa. Some media pundits are saying Jason has requested that if Ottawa can trade him, he'd be open to move during his meetings with Bryan Murray. Spezza has a no trade clause that doesn't kick in till July 1st but his hefty 7Mil salary is a stumbling block. Jason Spezza just finished buying a new house in Ottawa and also bought his brother Matt a house next door so I don't believe he would request a trade at this point. The last thing Ottawa needs is to lose more offense up front. Their first two lines are already struggling to produce and with Daniel Alfredssons age climbing each season, the Senators will have a mountain to over come by having to replace him. I don't see a deal happening unless Ottawa can find a player of equal value or a really great deal.

*-> While on the subject of Ottawa I've recently been told Anton Volchenkov will not be resigning 100% by a source inside the Ottawa Senators. Its rumored Volchenkov has already sold his Ottawa home and has had the team move his stuff for him. Volchi and Ottawa GM Bryan Murray have stopped talking and Murray refuses to pay his price which the player and his agent stand by. Volchenkov is being actively persued by the Washington organization as well as the Pittsburgh Penguins its been said. While this is not the first we've heard of him 100% not resigning it helps confirm the rumors but as I always say anythings possible.

*-> The Colorado Avalanche have resigned Peter Budaj to a one year deal. This voids the rumors of him heading to the KHL. Although it is still being said by the Russian media he was/is still in contact with several teams. Obviously the NHL is his number one choice. The deal is rumored to be worth 850K.

*-> Its being reported that the Detroit Red Wings have re-signed crease crasher Tomas Holmstrom to 2 year deal worth 3 Million per season. I've heard several reports on this one but the salary varies, everything from 2.5 to 3.5 so we'll have to play it by ear. Not a done deal yeat but it's most likely a go.

*-> Kamil Kreps of the Florida Panthers has reportedly signed a deal with Karpat of the Finnish SM Liiga. Kreps had mostly a down season in Florida but the Cats were reportedly still high on his abilities.

Scoopz,
I'm disappointed that you're helping to fuel this terrible rumour started by a desperate high school newspaper calibre journalist named Bruce Garrioch. Everyone should stop trying to feed the fire here, there is no controversy surrounding Jason Spezza. He is the cornerstone of the Senators, and he doesn't want to be traded. Why is everyone on him all of a sudden? Because he told Bryan Murray it sucks to be booed? Ottawa fans won't be happy until we have a team of Mike Fisher and Chris Kelly clones and we're out of the playoffs forever. Hang in there Spezz, we're not all morons like Garrioch.

Bloody hell, I hate the Spezza bashers. Twenty-nine other NHL teams would love to have him, and the humanoids masquerading as Sens fans want him gone.

The journalistic capabilities of Garrioch and Stevenson can be summed up as inept, self-serving and unprofessional.

Why do people go to or watch games if it isn't to see talents like Spezza? I don't see fans and media in Washington clamouring to unload the turnover-prone, perennial playoff flop wearing #8...or the fans and media in San Jose questioning the heart of the former first overall wearing #19....or...I could go on and on.

Idiots, each and every one, seeing what they want to see at the blatant expense of the facts of Spezz's game.

With a remotely healthy line-up, the Sens would've beaten the 'Pens and stood a decent chance of making another finals appearance, and the enthusiasm for next year would've been palpable.

But because Kuba, Michalek and Kovy were hurt, Spezz has to go. I guess the Heatley trade went so well, fans want to do it again...bloody idiots.

I can honestly say Spezza and Volchenkov are my 2 favorite Sens. They are the most effective players on the team, and I honestly think if this scenario plays out, we could be heading for some dark days in Sensland.
Even though I wouldnt hate to see him fired, I think Murray has the balls to ignore this Spezza bullshit, thanks god. Letting Volchenkov go is really going to hurt though.

I agree with both of you guys in saying Spezza is the franchise player for Ottawa and is a tremendous talent but it is my job to report all rumors no matter how silly they may be. I don't believe he will be dealt but I have spoken to one member of the Ottawa Senators and he said off the record that Jason Spezza was indeed unhappy with the fans and the organization for not backing him and releasing content of his private talks with management. This being said it doesn't mean he wants out at all just that he is bitter with the way things are going and he knows there's nothing that can be done on his end until the no trade clause. He's just saying the typical good media guy protocol, its not in his hands and he can't argue a trade at this point even though hed like to remain with the Sens. I doubt Murray would be stupid enough to deal one of his best players unless he can get a haul in return of players of equal value. Which reminds me have you seen the reports from some pundits claim the Sens should push for the same Heatley deal offer in Edmonton of Smid, Penner and Cogliano haha ridiculous.
