Ice Scoopz: Thursday Lunch Hour

*-> Joe Pavalski and Patrick Marleau both have come to terms with the San Jose Sharks this morning. The Sharks have locked up their 2 biggest free agents for the next 4 years. Patrick Marleau will earn 6.9M$ for the 4 years while Joe Pavelski will earn 4M$ in that period as well. Its good that the Sharks got their big guns re upped but they did so at a market cost for Marleau, one would figure he would be happy to take a hometown discount to remain with the Sharks.

Naw, he's been rumoured to be moving out of San Jose for years now. Why take a hometown discount when the team is always shopping you, and publicly embarrassing you by stripping your captaincy?

Be interesting to see if he gets a No-Trade Clause in there....

If he was unhappy he wouldn't be there, this was his last chance to head elsewhere while he still can contribute. I don't buy into any of that unhappy Marleau rumors. I think he wanted the C off his jersey to relieve some pressure. It definite worked for him if that's the case.

I don't know if Marleau wanted the "C" but I have the sense he loved it there so much, he would've looked to other way to stay had he discovered Heatley was banging his wife (or dog more likely).

I agree with the Chartered Accontant, Wilson over committed to a player that wasn't leaving. Pavelski will likely prove a decent contract though.

I love that the Sharks are keeping together the same underachieving group...it just seems right that Heater is a Shark this way.

I think that the Sharks got burned by the market inflation. Last year they wanted to get rid of Marleau in the worst way and now that he's had 1 good year, they throw 6.9 for 4 years at him....goodluck with that.
