Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

Here's some news regarding the Kovalchuk aftermath.

*-> Dean Lombardi has told media sources he expects to make a significant trade to better his club but not at the expense of roster players. He also went on to say he most likely won't be moving anybody as he only wants to add to the equation. He expects to sit down during the Olympic break without the playing pressure and work out any deals that may be needed. So Kings fans don't expect anything too soon. We all heard about the almost Ray Whitney deal and the Alexander Frolov situation has loomed all year long. It looks like he's gunna be patient and make a smart move. Alexander Frolov was suposed to be out the door but it looks as if Lombardi won't move the Russian unless he can get a roster player to compensate and a pick or prospect.

*-> Ray Whitney could be the next domino to fall many are saying. Several teams are interested in the veteran with LA still leading the way. Pittsburgh is reportedly out of the mix with their focus on a cheaper solution of Alexei Ponikarovsky out of Toronto. The Senators have also been connected but must clear some cap first. Vancouver is looking to add some secondary scoring but it is expected they'll chase a blueliner first. Another suitor listed is Nashville. LA seams the most probable to Me but don't count any of the Atlantic Division teams out due to the fact the Kovalchuk deal effects them directly. Jim Rutherford has stated he has received offers in the 1st round pick form from a potential suitor so the price is high.

*-> News out of St Louis today has the Blues shopping winger Paul Kariya. With the Blues looking to continue the youth movement they are shopping the last few heavy contracts out ode young players and prospects. Kariya could help a team looking for an offensive boost. I've heard Nashville and Vancouvers name been thrown around. Kariya has a previous connection in Nashville. The more likely trade subject however is Keith Tkachuk. A solid veteran presence with strong leadership. The Bruins love him to death and have previously tried to acquire him but the deal fell through. Boston is expected to make a pitch at the deadline.

*-> Petr Sykoras decesion has come and that decesion is a season ending one. Sykora who is a UFA after being released earlier this season. Sykora has decided to have the abdominal surgery for the stomach injury which has been plaguing him all season. The Czech winger plans however to return to the NHL next season.

*-> The Niklas Wallin deal is rumored still on the table with the Sharks but apparently Jim Rutherford is still finalizing it he has admitted. Not much is known about what the return may be. Another interesting rumor has a second team now in the bidding.

More this afternoon.
