*-> Well I was right about Bergfor, Cormier and the 1st but Johnny Oduya was the last piece of the deal its been confirmed. So Kovalchuk to New Jersey for Patrice Cormier, Niklas Bergfors, Johnny Oduya and the Devils 1st this year. Done deal.

I understand they wanted to get something for Kovalchuk before UFA, but dealing your captain and elite scorer when youre 2pts out of a playoff spot with 27 games to go says to your fans 'we do not intend to compete this year'. Im sure all of the 57 Thrashers fans in Georgia are livid.
I actually like the deal Waddell made a good move in my opinion. He had to deal him before the break because of the injury factor. Oduya and Bergfors will help them now but you are right they lose a key goal scorer for the drive. I expect they may make another move at the deadline if their close to the pack. The Kovalchuk deal has a key twist to it, as Kovalchuk reportedly still wants to play in Atlanta and will give them first crack its being reported. True or not however I'm not sure but I wouldn't put it past Waddell and Kovalchuk.
