Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Morning

*-> Rumblings out of Calgary have the Flames thinking of making a splash to try and make a run for the playoffs this year. Reports have GM Feaster looking to add not subtract in the next few weeks and if playoffs seam like a long shot then a minor sale at the deadline, as they look to get some help for next season by selling off the extra pieces. Robin Regehr would be the Flames main bargaining chip as many teams are scrambling for his services. The Buffalo Sabres, Canadiens, Washington, Los Angeles and Detroit have all been linked. Anton Babchuk who is a free agent this summer could also be had for the right price. The Blue Jackets have had mild interest while the Rangers would love to add his point shot to the mix. Another intriging defenseman is Jay Bouwmeister who is said to be untouchable but maybe for the right offer he could be pryed from the Flames. New Jersey would be one of the teams interested.

*-> While on the Flames, Ales Kotalik is still being pushed around the league so far no takers however. The Flames may try to place him on re-entry waivers closer to the deadline.

*-> The Buffalo Sabre's are planning to unload lots of their veteran core before the trade deadline and work with the youth they have in the system after being impressed so far this season. Buffalo is expected to shop UFAs Mike Grier, Steve Montador and Rob Niedermayer. Captain Craig Rivet may also be up for grabs if the Sabres cant lock him in a deal shortly. The Sabre's arn't necessarly looking to rebuild be just add the right pieces to their young squad including a highend defenseman to help with the workload on the backend. Some are saying the often injured Tim Connolly could be playing his last games in Buffalo.

*-> Reports out of Toronto have GM Brian Burke meeting with Tomas Kaberle's agent late this week to discuss whether or not he'll wave his no trade clause. It appears the blueliner will but only has 4 teams in the Eastern Conference. The Sabre's and the Bruins are two teams that have been rumored as of late but I wouldn't count out the Rangers.

*-> The Edmonton Oilers have waived Zach Stortini and are expected to demote him to the AHL. So far not much for interest but I have seen the Canadiens as a possible destination so far.

That's it dfor now more in a bit including some KHL news on Evgeni Kuznetsov and Vladimir Tarasenko.
