Trade! Montreal -> Anaheim

*-> Montreal has traded forward Maxim Lapierre to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Brett Festerling and a 5th round draft pick.

This is clearly a defenseman panic move as well as a body has to go now that Max Pacioretty has shown he's ready. I still don't like the move as now Montreal have a crowded blueline. Lapierre is also one of the few french born players left on the team.

Wow I really don't understand this move at all. Maxim Lapierre is great at being a pain in the ass. Every time the sens play the habs he ramps up the emotion, wears down our players and pots a couple of goals. Must be more to the story here.

As for the French-Canadian comment, I think that using a players ethno-linguistic culture to justify their place on the team is complete bs. As a GM, you need to field the best team possible regardless of what your fans want. If trading lapierre is the best option, good on gauthier for making the move in spite of the perceived "French quota" in Montreal. Signing or drafting a hometowner might make sense if they sign cheap down the road, but leave it there.

"Ethno-linguistic culture"....love it...CA's bringing it...however, I do support signing or retaining a player based on the "hotness" factor of their significant other...which is why I support keeping Fisher, re-signing Comrie and trading for Phaneuf and Stoll.
