Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Night

*-> The New York Rangers have a disgruntled Alexander Frolov on their hands. The enigmatic Frolov is reportedly been vocally upset at the Rangers coaching staff for mis using him this season. He is unhappy with his role or lack of role with the blueshirts and expected to be a key part of the Rangers when he signed on. Many have said the Russian winger will look to move on once again after the end of the season and the KHL most likely wont be the destination. This is the second time now in 2 seasons that Frolov has come out about his unhappiness with his coaching staff. First it was in LA now New York. It might be time for him to play up to his potential and re-earn his role back.

*-> The Ottawa Senators are still seeking a trading partner. GM Bryan Murray is still working the phones to try and find a shake up trade. Vancouver is still believed to be a target with Kevin Bieksa on the block but it's rumored the Canucks are trying to shop him around to get the highest price before pulling the trigger. Peter Regin is also rumored to be now a potential player to be moved. This seams like speculation to me about Regin just due to being a healthy scratch for several games. I've heard from my inside source that the Sens are rumored to be talking to the Nucks but he seams to think it's only going to be a minor deal. What do you guys think is Bieksa the fix the Sens need? I don't think so but thats just me.

*-> Dallas Star veteran Jere Lehtinen has called it a career after mulling over his future. He told the Stars earlier this season it would be them or nothing and his decesion this afternoon was it was time to get out of the game after a great career. Sad to see another veteran guy exit the league but I believe injuries played a major part and also as Kirk Cobain said it's better to burn out fast then slowly fade away.

Scoopz,

Disappointed to see that Lehtinen has reached the end. Very underrated player, both for his intelligence and skill.

Played in the shadow of Modano, Morrow, etc, but he was as valuable as either to those Stars teams.

Cue the countdown 'till CA's post lambasting yet another underachieving Russian.

First off, Neil Young wrote it first. Cobain closed out his suicide note with those lyrics from hey hey my my, a song comparing Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols to Elvis Presley.

Secondly, this is further evidence in the substantial dossier against Russian hockey players. I'm not going to write a big long post going over the facts, but think about this: if development time, money and draft picks were all given value in dollars, how many Russians break even in terms of success per million dollars? Canadians, Swedes? If you look at hockey like a business, which it is, you'd never pick one just because you see the profit margin being too narrow to support substantial investment in them. Frolov has skill, but until he changes his attitude, he will soon be pushed for a starting spot by young players who are happy to be there.

You called it Jalen and I agree with you on Jere. It's sad to see him leave the game. Not many players have or had the intelligence and defensive capabilities while being able to produce.

Very good trivia CA although I think most people who grew up in the 90's knew that. As you said Kurt closed it and in my mind put the final stamp on it. Nothing against Neil Young however.

Very true though, if you look at the success rate for Russians it's drastically lower than all of the rest. I agree it's hard to justify taking a Russian due to the overwhelming list of risks involved but don't you think that most teams would take that hit if they had the possibility of landing a jackpot like a Malkin, Ovechkin, Datsyuk, or a Kovalchuk? The payout is too good too pass up sometimes. With Frolov it truely shows his true character however. It looks like he needs the right situation to be able to perform well these days.
