Ice Scoopz: Friday Lunchtime

*-> The Anaheim Ducks are reportedly shopping one of their many spare defensemen. It's rumored that Paul Mara and Sheldon Brookbank are on the block. Mara has been recently used on the 4th line as a forward so it only makes sense the Ducks will deal one of their spare parts. It's rumored that the Dallas Stars and the Edmonton Oilers are interested in Mara's service.

*-> The St. Louis Blues are still looking at bringing in some help to relieve some pains from recent injuries. The Blues inquired about Alexei Kovelev from the Sens but it's not believed the Sens are shopping him quite yet. Jaime Langenbruner has been linked but it too is also unlikely. The Blues may have to wait till close to the deadline for help or take a look at one of the New York Ranger's expendable forwards like Alexander Frolov or the Flyers Nikolai Zherdev.

*-> Brian Lee is still awaiting his fate as he sits in the press box. Ottawa GM Bryan Murray has said he's still shopping the young D but said theres no takers and without any playing time the chances of him being moved are getting slim. It's still believed Vancouver has interest but would like him on re-entry waivers and Ottawa picking up half the tab.

*-> Montreal tried to shop gritty forward Dustin Boyd earlier this week but found no takers and waived him. Boyd is expected to try and play his way out of Hamilton till Montreal is able to move him. The Habs do not wish to move lose him on rentry waivers it's being reported.

Brian Lee played last night in his homecoming to Minnesota... looked ok I suppose, but nothing game-breaking.

Oh you better believe the Sens are shopping Kovalev. He's available for anyone willing to give up a 3rd or 4th rounder, guaranteed. The cap hit has Ottawa up against a wall right now, unable to make a significant trade and too close to the cap. Anything St. Louis is willing to forfeit would be welcome. That being said, I'm not necessarily disappointed with Kovalev. He brings what he brings, we all knew what we were getting when we signed him.

That's very true CA, Alexei Kovalev will always be Alexei Kovalev. For years teams have been attempting to inspire, shake up and motivate this enigma but the truth is Kovalev nothing really works for any extend period of time. He'll always be one of the most talented players in the league but also one of the biggest mystery's. As you said Sens fans knew what they were getting from the get go especially when he announced during his press conference that Ottawa was his second choice and wished to retire with the Habs.

On the trade front I'm hearing the Blues only touched base with the Sens. Murray would love to move him but he's probably going to have to wait till closer to the deadline when his cap hit is cheap.
