Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline Day

Well the big day is finally here, and I feel that there could be a few shocking trades this year. So many teams so close to a playoff run and I believe many teams will be influenced by the teams under and above them. It could be a frenzy when its all said an done because of this atmosphere. I'll be here all day till about 5. If you have any comments or questions about deadline move don't be afraid to use the board or the comment section.

Remember goto http://www.formspring.com/forms/?912437-251GPYkEK7 and fill out the form if your interested in live trade texts/e-mails all day long from Ice Scoopz.

*-> The Vancouver Canucks are believed to be shopping Pavol Demitra after his strong campaign. Demitra is a UFA at the end of this season and his value has never been higher. The New York Rangers have had their eyes on Demitra for the past season and a half and now that they have countryman and goodfriend Marian Gaborik it could be the right time to make a move.

*-> Some pundits are saying the move to bring in Andy Sutton is a backup move incase the Sens decided to deal Anton Volchenkov before he hits the market this summer as a UFA and breaks the bank. The Sens most likely wont be able to afford him unless they move a body or two. An offer has been made but sources are saying its not close. The Sens will stay in discussion with the black and blue blueliner but could be moved they are saying if a deal cant get done today. I personally don't believe Andy Sutton comes close to a replacement and the deal does make sense when you look at it in that sense but I think the Sens can get a deal done.

*-> The Colorado Avalanche and the Phoenix Coyotes are talking as we speak. ESPN has reported that they could be working on a deal that would swap Peter Mueller for Woltek Wolski. The two teams have been speaking since last night and it's believed that the Avs could also get a high draft pick thrown in to sweeten the deal. I'm not too sure why the Avs would deal Wolski, he's on pace for 70 points?

Scoopz,

Do you believe that we can make it deep into the playoffs with our current goaltending situation? Do you think BM is looking into possibly packaging Lee and Leclaire together for say Vokoun or another tender? I personally believe that if we made a significant change in goaltending that it would boost this teams chances of being a legit contender for the cup.

Mack brings up a good point. Elliott looked really shakey last night. Not to disrespect the guy, but he isn't ready to take us all the way to the promised land. A proven guy like Vokoun would give us the back end support we need.

That being said, can anyone remember our last 2 trade deadline goalie acquisitions? Mike Morrison was a waste of time and Tom Barasso took what should have been Lalime's spotlight...

Btw nice look to the site Scoopz!

I do feel Murray is looking at a goalie. I've personally said from the start Brian Elliot isn't what the Sens thought he was. He's a good filler and backup but he isn't a starter. He doesn't have that consistency and once the gates open they don't stop. I like Leclaire but something leads me to believe he isn't the same goalie since his injury. Vokoun would push Ottawa into the top 2 in the East in my opinion. They've had the same problem for years, good goaltending. When you look whose out there, there's a few guys that the Sens could target. Martin Biron is affordable and would be a decent goalie on a good team. Dan Ellis is also out there and has shown he can start. What about Cory Schnieder out of Vancouver? He's unproven but all signs point to qaulity. Turco? Vokoun or Vokoun is too much cap for the Sens so I think BM will stay in the budget and go for an affordable guy like Ellis.

Thanks, I figured it was due for a change!

Scoopz,

You think that BM will take a chance on Ellis? I realize that he was once a starter and has proven he can do it, but the goaltending situation has been a revolving door in ottawa the past couple of years. Gerber had a good year, floped after he signed with us. Lecalire had a good year before injury, hasnt been the same since. I also agree with you on Elliot. He is a great backup and will be able to give you 20-30 games per year. With Brodeur in the minors, does that not make Elliot expendable? Also, do you believe that Biron has the confidence and ability to be the #1 he once was?

Also, Sens chirp is reporting that the Caps and Nucks are calling today about Volchy. Have you heard anything about this?

I'm still unsold on Ellis, but he has been a starter in the past and his situation is only due to the fact the Preds have a better goalie in Renne and some goaltending prospects in the minors. I'm not too sure what murray may do, he's ether going to get a start or nothing I do believe. Elliot isn't expendable at this point....yet. Brodeur hasn't played enough to give BM confidence that he's backup worthy yet.

I have heard the Volchenkov to Washington rumors out there. I dunno if Murray will move him however. They need him too much, Sutton isn't the answer. Vancouver is definately an option because their looking to replace Willie Mitchell so it makes perfect sense.
