Ice Scoopz: Thursday Afternoon

*-> Robert Nilsson formerly of the Edmonton Oilers has officially signed with Salavat UFA of the KHL as previously reported on Ice Scoopz.

*-> Ondrej Pavelec of the Atlanta Thrashers has agreed to a deal with his club. Pavelec who was a RFA agreed to a 2 year deal worth 1.15 MIL$ per season. Great deal for the Thrashers, that should put a dent in Anti Niemi's arbitration argument.

*-> St. Peterberg of the KHL has reportedly made a massive offer for Russian winger Alexander Frolov. The former King has had several KHL offers but wishes to remain in the NHL. The Atlanta Thrashers, the Nashville Predators and the New York Islanders have been linked. The Montreal Canadiens were linked but would like to move a body first. The Los Angeles King also have interest now that the Devils look to have won the war for Ilya Kovalchuk. They only want Frolov want at a reduced price however on a 1 year deal its.

*-> The St. Louis Blues have said they are done shopping for the summer and may only add a body during training camp as they feel they can contend by promoting within. They still have several RFAs still to sign and they expect it will push them over the Cap base.

Somebody has to sign Paul Kariya. He's a bonafide top 6 left winger and can still set them up with the best of them. Columbus should sign him to set up Rick Nash, or at least to mentor Ryan Johansen.

I almost want Ottawa to take a run at him, since we're really thin on the left side, but perhaps they need to put Regin or Foligno in that role to develop them.

From what I'm hearing Paul Kariya is being courted by the Pittsburgh Penguins still. I've also heard a possible Anaheim Duck reunion but the Ducks are waiting for the Kaberle situation to play out first.

I also think Kariya could be a good fit in Ottawa. He could help provide that extra offense the Sens need and could help take some pressure off Alfie's back in the leadership department.
