*-> So it looks like the Giguere deal is following, the Leafs have announced another press conference in 30 minutes its expected that Giguere will be a Leaf and Toskala will be heading to the Ducks with a 3rd rounder.
*-> The total results of the Flames/Leafs deal is Dion Phaneuf, Fredrick Sjostrom, and prospect Keith Aulie to the Leafs for Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman, Jamal Mayers and Ian White in return to the Flames. I expect one of those new Leaf players possibly heading to the Ducks.

I think both deals are great for Toronto...they gave up little to no part of their future to get twin towers on their backend in Phaneuf and Aulie. Giguere will buy them time to develop Gustavson and is re-united with Francois Allaire.
Naysayers will point out that Phaneuf's been struggling but that's utter nonsense...the kid's 24 and should only just be coming into his own....and he's already an all star and got consideration for Team Canada.
I'm shocked Calgary didn't insist on some component of the deal that could be a major part of their team for years to come. Maybe this gets them over the top, but if it doesn't...what a major chip to play for so little return.
As a Sens fan, it pains me to acknowledge these are great deals for the Leafs. They are very strong on the back end and could move someone for offensive help.

I agree with you Jalen on the deals. Burke dumped deadweight and potential UFA's to get a good prospect, a definate pillar to build around on defense and a veteran goalie to help along The Monster. Getting rid of that Jason Blake contract was impressive as well. I think the Leafs are headed in the right direction. The next step is to develop their own prospects and work on drafting. A key free agent signing to get wingers for Kessel would instantly turn this team around.
nice post!
