Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

*-> Aaron Ward has officially cleared waivers. Its expected he'll be sent down to Albany of the AHL or out on reentry waivers. Several teams are interested but are waiting to see if they can get him at a bargain price or later on in the year when his salary doesn't hit as hard.

*-> The Canadians are looking at inquiring Alexander Frolov. These rumors have been consistent all season long. Bob Gainey would love to add Mike Cammalleris former linemate to his club. The LA Kings are still unsure about dealing him however especially since they are playoff bound. The Kings would need an offensive player in return or quite possibly a reliable starter. This ones still a long shot.

*-> While on the subject of the Canadians the apparent target in Philadelphia is Claude Giroux. The Flyers I don't believe are willing to part with a key player for a UFA unsure goalie. Montreal does have several picks and prospects to spare however.

*-> A lot of media sources are reporting a major deal coming out of St Louis and Carolina. Carolina is rumored to be trying to dump salary in an effort to rebuild. Eric Staal is the center of attention and the Blues would love to build around Staal. They have a high pick this year and could dangle it along with some of their young NHL bound players such as Patrick Berglund. I highly doubt this one as the Canes are likely to build around Staal themselves. They already have 10 UFA's they could shop and rebuild with instead.

More this afternoon..

You're right scoopz, Flyers would be crazy to part with Giroux right now. He's young with tons of potential, and frankly, they need to improve the situation in the room. Something tells me that the 21 year old sophmore is not the issue there...
