Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

A couple of rumors for this sunny Wednesday afternoon.

*-> I've learned from my Senators source this morning that the Ottawa dressing room is reportedly in turmoil after a winless 3 game start to the season. I'm the first person to say that all these people panicking about the Sens starting off cold is ridiculous. Its only been 3 games and while yes they've looked bad their is still 79 games left. Lots of time to get sorted out. Leafs fans don't give up till at least 5 games in. I was listening to Ottawa sports radio after the loss Sunday and was disappointed as a hockey fan to hear how many people are already writing off the Sens in Ottawa. While I do believe Ottawa has been mismanaged the past few years and arnt the number 1 or 2 in the NorthEast I do believe they could surprise many going forward and in the playoffs. So onto my sources info. He has told me the dressing room morale is at an all time low already. Many of the players are disappointed with several players effort levels. Daniel Alfredsson is extremely upset with the slow start and has reportedly spoken to management already about the player in question and reportedly other issues. He is fuming with the Sens right now and it was apparent after he stormed off the powerplay against the Leafs. Not much else was revealed as management is keeping it tight lipped. One of the player in question is reportedly Alexei Kovalev my source believes. His approach to games has many players questioning his loyalty to the club. This isn't great news for the Sens Army but my source tells me that he expects the teams attitude to drastically improve once they win a game or too, morale should return to normal. My thoughts exactly, as I said not time to panic because of high hopes this season. We have to remember the only real change to the club was Sergei Gonchar and it is essentially still the same club who struggled last season. Maybe a shake up could get guys like Kovalev moving or playing elsewhere.

*-> Jeff Finger was waived yesterday and sent to the Toronto Marlies as the Leafs needed to clear space for the return of Brett Lebda off the IR. Jeff Finger will report to the AHL and a buyout may not be out of the question.

What the hell Scoopz? Team that struggled last year? We went on an 11 game win streak for cryin' out loud. If Kovalev, Michalek, Kuba, Alfie and Spezza hadn't been injured we would have easily beat the Pens. What exactly has been "mismanaged" in the organization. I for one think Murray has done an admirable job keeping the team in contention without bombing for 5 years to stockpile 1st and 2nd overall draft picks (like Pittsburg, Chicago, St. Louis, L.A., Edmonton and NYI have done).

Cut the boys some slack and lay the blame where it needs to be. Karlsson has been soft out the gate in terms of consistency. Powerplay is taking awhile to develop chemistry. Phillips is showing his age. Lee is a wet noodle who couldn't shoot if his bleach blonde life depended on it. The team has 3 third lines and noone who can compete offensively aside from Spezza and Alfie. Regin has been overvalued as an offensive contributor by the fans and media alike after cashing in on Spezza's passing last year in the playoffs (you heard me). When is Murray going to add someone who knows how to score? Eventually, chipping the puck in and grinding will produce some goals, but not enough to beat good teams. But that's what happens when the Ottawa media runs the team.

Funny how they can put just about anybody on Spezza's left side and their offensive contribution rockets...even Scoopz would light it up with Spezz seting him up.

I can only imagine what it's like to play with a centre that knows how to dish.

I dont think anyone is accusing Murray of being a bad GM CA; but its just not working out. Heres a guy who strolled into the organization at a time the Stanley Cup was expected, and we are now at a point where making the playoffs is the goal. Plus:
- hes been spotty at the draft.
- the massive salaries to 36yr+ old Russians is a confusing strategy.
- The Northeast is an awful division which padded last years point total. If we were in the Northwest - playoffs would not even have been discussed.

Ive been saying this for 6 months (actually a year and a half); this organization is not going to be a winner the way its going, and changes need to start at the top.
