Trade

*-> The Colorado Avalanche have traded rugged winger Ryan Smyth to the Los Angeles Kings for defensemen Tom Priessing, Kyle Quincey and their 5th round pick next year. Ryan Smyth waived his no movement clause to do so.

Scoopz,

Great deal for the Avs to unload this bloated contract. They need to get younger. It's too bad for them they couldn't bring a better return or more prospects than Quincey. Smyth could still help a team on the cusp (SJ maybe?), but he's career will come to an ignomious end in LA.

On another note, the Sens signed your beloved Kovalev, purportedly to a 2-year deal. He'll turn 37 during the season, can he still help the Sens? I guess related, will he be motivated to play Clouston's style? Apart from what he brings to the PP, I'm not sure I see the value in this addiiton, Kovie doesn't look like he fits what Cory wants to do.

It's too bad none of your other faithful readers know how to type (or maybe they don't know how to read?).

Keep up the good work.

I'm a believer of Kovalev but it's tough to say he's going to be a good fit with the Sens. I believe he'll be able to connect with Spezza but won't be as effective as Heatley because Kovalev likes to carry the puck and shoot before pass. Also Cory Clouston most likely can't afford another "me first" player. I still don't believe Clouston is a good coach and the locker still apparently isn't in sync clearly. Kovalev will have a decent season but I really think its a down grade and the Sens are still no better than last season.
