Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Morning

*-> *-> Former Montreal captain Saku Koivu has found himself a new team and it isn't with the Minnesota Wild as most predicted. Koivu signed a 1yr deal worth 3.2$mil. Teemu Selanne a close friend of Koivu was a deciding factor as he is set to retire after this season. Plenty of time left to play with his brother Mikko.

*-> Jiri Hudler has added to the Red Wings woes by defecting to the KHL. This should cause a big issue with the Wings as the lost 2 players to try and resign him. Hudler has signed a 2yr deal worth 2$mil for Dynamo Moscow.

*-> San Jose free agent Claude Lemieux has ended his comeback attempt by announcing his retirement this morning.

*-> Doug Janik has signed a 1yr 2way deal with Detroit.

Scoopz,

I thought Koivu would end up in Minny, at least until the Beauchemin signing by the Leafs, when Bob Murray made it pretty clear his priority was a second line ctr. I think this is a good signing for the Ducks. If Getzlaf hadn't gotten sick agains the 'Wings, they'd have beaten them.

More surprised to see Hudler's leaving Detroit. I thought he was one of the few players that might've received an offer sheet until he filed for arbitration.

Didn't Janik go to the Rangers in the Gomez deal? What was that about?

Keep ut the good work.

The Ducks were my second guess for Koivu because I had heard the Teemu rumors about trying to convince Saku to sign up. I still think he'll end up in Minny next season though. I also think it's a good deal and should give the Ducks a bit of flex.

The Doug Janik deal was weird. I guess he was just a throw in for the Rangers that they opted not to sign. Same with Valentenko because it's highly unlikly he'll return to North America unless its a high end contract.
