Ice Scoopz: Thursday Morning

*-> Keith Tkachuk has announced he will hang it up at the end of the season after 19 years. The St Louis Blues will play Nashville the last game of the season where Tkachuk will play his last game in the NHL. Tkachuk said it was mainly because of missing out on his family he decided to hang em up.

*-> Another aging vet Owen Nolan of the Minnesota Wild has decided to go in the opposite route. Nolan has decided to play one last season before deciding to quit. He is a UFA and hopes he fits in to the Wilds plans this off season but even if he's not resigned he will look for one final team to finish off his career with.

*-> Mike Modano of the Dallas Stars has also came out about his possible retirement. Modano stated he'd like to play another season but only if he felt good about it and only if he was in the Dallas Stars plans. Modano has also been linked to be on the verge of buying the Stars with Gretzky and Hull.

Modano is obviously automatic for the hall of fame, but the other two are debatable.
Tkachuk was super dominant in his time with the Blues, but could never beat the Wings when it mattered in the playoffs. Awful goalies like Roman Turek and Brent Johnson didnt really help that though. I would still pass him over.
Nolan was also a top player, but was held back by the Sharks' perennial early playoff exists. Another long and impressive NHL career, but I would pass him over too.
What do you think Scoopz?

Hmm Tkachuk is an interesting case because while he does have pretty good numbers he has never won a cup. He always disappeared or couldn't carry his club when it mattered. He did play on lousy teams but he also played on an incredible Jets team. I would pass.

Mike Modano is in for sure. He's been the heart of Minnesota and Dallas. A true team player with incredible numbers. He's also one of the United States best players and hero. I've recently heard a mixed report now saying Mike may have decided to retire unofficially. We'll have to watch this one.

As for Nolan he's in the same boat as Tkachuk. He's got a storied career but no cup although he has lots of international success. His career was stalled by a major injury and also a trade to the retirement home of the National Hockey League, the Leafs. But he recovered through all that so maybe he deserves a little more credit.
