Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Early Evening
A lots going down currently so heres the latest...
*-> Mike Komisarek of the Montreal Canadians has announced he is heading to free agency tomorow. His agent said Montreal's offers so far have been sub par and he'd like to still remain with the Canadian's but would still like to test the water to see whats avaliable first. This comes as disapointing news to Habs fans as Montreal will most likely not retain his services. The New York Islanders and the Ottawa Senators are rumored to be interested.
*-> The Calgary Flames have solidified their backend for years! Marquee free agent Jay Bouwmeester has officially signed a 5 year deal worth 6.6Mil$ per season. The Flames acquired Jay Bouwmeester's rights at the draft this past Friday from the Florida Panthers for Jordon Leopold, and a 3rd round pick which Josh Berkholtz was selected with. This could be bad news for the Flames free agents as they are struggling with the cap and may need to clear more salary.
*-> Chris Neil has turned down an offer worth 1.7$Mil this evening from the Ottawa Senators. the rugged winger is reportedly asking for a raise of 2.5$Mil for several years which Ottawa is reluctant to put on the table. Neil is a wanted commodity out West and could easily meet his demands through free agency. The San Jose Sharks and Minnesota Wild are expected to make offers come 12pm tomorrow.
*-> Jere Lehtinen the veteran winger of the Dallas Stars has accepted an offer of 1.5$Mil plus over a million in bonuses to keep him in Dallas for yet another year. Truly a steal for the Stars as Lehtinen is one of the best two-way forwards around and if he stays healthy makes an instant impact.

*-> The Nashville Preditors have indicated they would welcome Russian defect Alexander Radulov back just as long as he returns before July 1st. Dave Poille is willing to forgive an forget as long as he stays loyal to his club. There has been no indication Radulov is willing to leave his Khl club to return to the NHL at this curent time.
*-> In other Nashville news, defenseman Greg DeVries has stated he believes his days are numbered in the music city. Although he doesn't believe he'll return he does believe he'll still be playing hockey next season.
*-> Pittsburgh Penguin Bill Guerin has decided he would like to play another season in the NHL and avoid retirement for one more year. The only factor is for what team? Guerin would love to return to Pittsburgh as long as they keep the momentum going and aim for another cup.
*-> Speaking of aging superstars Mike Modano has also indicated he will be returning to the NHL after contemplating retirement as well. He has one more year in his contract with the Dallas Stars.

Ice Scoopz: Monday Evening -> Avery On Re-Entry Waivers
*-> The Dallas Star's have placed super pest Sean Avery on re-entry waivers today after announcing it Friday afternoon. The Dallas Stars are hoping that the New York Ranger's are going to claim him for their playoff run. There has been no secret that the Ranger's want Sean back and having to pay only half his salary should help that cause. If the Ranger's don't claim him it's highly unlikely another team will. Rumors say Avery hasn't been the same player since he got back from his rehab program. My thinking is that he just needs some time to get game ready and that also he's playing soft because he's hoping a team will grab him and he wants to be healthy.
*-> A big rumor out of Ottawa has surfaced today as Bryan Murray continues to work the phones. The Columbus Blue Jacket's interest in Antoine Vermette has increased as of late and Columbus scouts and GM Jay Howson was seen in Ottawa this Saturday night watching the Sens and Leafs. Ottawa has apparently shown interest in goalie Pascal Leclaire and many feel a deal could be worked out between the two sides as a 1 for 1 swap. There is no secret Ottawa still needs goaltending and Vermette hasn't exactly shined in his role in Ottawa. The Blue Jacket's would love to see Vermette playing with Rick Nash. Some pundits have put Jason Spezza as the man the Blue Jacket's want and it could even involve a multi player deal. I doubt they would shop Spezza unless they could get another big name or blue chip prospect in return. anything could happen though it's trade deadline day.
*-> Another Columbus rumor to bring out is that the Blue Jacket's have apparently called the Buffalo Sabre's organization in regards to soon to be UFA and often injured center Tim Connolly. The Buffalo Sabre's are really reluctant in trading Connolly because he has been playing extremely well as of late but they may risk loosing him this summer. The Jacket's feel he would resign with them and he would be a good fit for Nash.
*-> Rumor has it the reason the Guerin deal is taking a lot longer than expected is that there are more suitors than expected. Most teams deny interest or talking to the Islander's but that's just politics. The Montreal Canadian's have stepped into the fray as the Carolina Hurricanes. The leader though still appears to be Washington as they would like to add experience and Bill Guerin's leadership to their young core.

Trade: *-> Steve Begin to Dallas
*-> Steve Begin of the Montreal Canadians was traded as previous mentioned to the Dallas Stars. For journeyman defenseman Doug Janik. Doug Janik has bounced around several teams before landing in Dallas. Janik is not expected to play but was more of a cap clearing and defensive insurance move for the playoffs.

The I.R: Tuesday Afternoon
So it looks like my Ottawa and Toronto reviews didn't go through last night as well as my I.R report so when I get home tonight Ill repost them. For now here's the I.R.
*-> Alex Tanguay of the Montreal Canadians was told this morning he would not be cleared to play this week as his shoulder is still nagging him. He may return early next week.
*-> Ryan Miller will miss the next two weeks with a high ankle sprain and backup goalie Patrick Lalime will step up. Buffalo also recalled Jonas Enroth from Portland. The Sabres will need that tandem to step up big time down the stretch.
*-> Mike Modano of the Dallas Stars will miss the next game after missing last nights game with the flu. It's a 50 50 chance he'll play.

Ice Scoopz: Monday Afternoon ->Jokinen To Carolina
Well I'm back from a much needed weekend off and I see I have quite a bit of catching up to do from thsi weekend so here it goes. My Deadline day review will continue tonight with Monreal so check it out.
*-> Jussi Jokinen that is has been traded from the Tampa Bay Lighting after being placed on waivers. He now is a member of the Carolina Hurricanes in a deal that sent Josef Melichar F Wade Brookbank and a 4th round pick to Tampa Bay. Brookbank who was played in 27 games this year only has 1 point and 40 PIM's while Melichar has 4 assists in 15 games. Jussi Jokinen who was brought in to play a 2 way role for the Hurricanes has 6 goals and 10 assists in 46 games this year.
*-> Ray Emery has made headlines again, this time Ray is refusing to return to his KHL club Atlant Mystichi after what is being described as a salary dispute. Apparently Emery was not being paid the full amount of his contract because the Russian club was not converting the exchange rate properly. It seams the KHL is having a big of finacial problems during this recession. Emery who now is looking for work elsewhere has hinted that if he is pick-up by another European team he will look to return to the NHL next season.
*-> Manny Legace has cleared waivers and is expected to head to Peoria of the AHL. The Columbus Blue Jackets are extremely interested in Legace still and are expected to make a move for the goaltender. Rumor has it is that the Blue Jackets are trying to work out a deal in which Legace is put on re-entry waivers so that they may claim him.

*-> Andy McDonald of the St.Louis Blues has agreed to a 4 year 18.8MIL$ deal this morning that should end most of the trade rumors about it. McDonald who has been a key member of the Blues since being traded by Anaheim for Doug Weight last season. McDonald who has 18 points in 16 games this season. McDonald has been sidelined by a fractured leg since Nov 16th.
*-> Last rumor for now is that the Montreal Canadiens are trying to shop Alexei Kovalev. Apparently the Habs are growing tired of his disapearing act. Now this is one I read the other day and I promised myself I'd post most rumors that I heard or saw but this one really made me hesitate. I decided to post it anyways just because its my duty to report any rumors posted by hopefully reliable media sources. Bruce Garioch reported this in the Ottawa Sun on Sunday but I really feel it was ridiculous. Why would the Canadien's give him the "C" while Koivu was out? Why would the Habs keep the "A" on his shirt if they wern't happy? Obviously the guy has been struggling but by saying there actively shopping him is ludicris. He was double shifting on Saturday night agains't the Leafs, he was also playing on the penatly kill. I highly doubt they would trade him just sinply for the fact the city is in love with him and also they need him til atleast Tanguay gets back. So there might be some truth to this being that the Habs may be willing to trade him or frustrated with his play, I'd definatly say their not actively shopping him.
*->Germany and Norway are the two last teams to qualify for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. Germany who beat Slovenia on Saturday to qualify while Norway beat Denmark 5-2.

The I.R: Friday Evening
*-> The Washington Capitals have lost starter/backup/starter/backup Brent Johnson for up to 8 weeks after he has hip surgery next week. The decesion was made on Thursday and it has been a lingering issue for the goalie. Hes expected to make a full recovery and the Caps may look to Manny Lagace on waivers for help.
*-> Also in Caps news, they have recalled defensemen Karl Alzner from the Hersey Bears to play in Saturday nights game.
*-> The Dallas Stars have recalled Brent Krahn from the Chicago wolves where he was stationed. Krahn has a 4-3-0 record for the Wolves.
*-> Tsn has reported Tomas Holmstrom of the Detroit Red Wings will under go a sports hernia opperation late next week and will most likely be back in 3 to 5 weeks the Red wings hope. Holmstrom has been plagued by injuries this season and the Red wings would really like to see him get healthy for the playoffs.

*-> Manny Legace was placed on waivers today by his club the St. Louis Blues after Chris Mason's recent performances solidified Mason's number one status and St.Louis's no need for a back-up at 2.5$MIL. Legace who was really down on the recent slide and was understandably upset when he learned he was waived. Manny said he still will play his heart out and will 100% report to Peoria of the AHL if not claimed. Good thing for Manny he most likely will get picked up it seams as many teams are clamoring for a reliable back-up. The Washington Capitols recently lost Brent Johnson so a 8 week injury and Theodore hasn't played to his usual rate all season. Another team that has reportedly shown interest is the New York Islanders who also have no clear cut back-up no that DiPietro is out for the season. New york has no real incentive though to acquire a back-up unless they feel they could re-sign him as they are already out of the picture and most likely want to keep sliding. Ottawa is another team with goaltending woes, rumor has it that Bryan Murray wont give up on playoff hopes yet and going to keep puching till the very end. Legace could fill that void nicely. The last team I hear is interested is the columbus Blue Jackets who really need to give their young goalie Steve Mason a rest to get healthy. Do they have enough faith in Mason that he wont fade down the stretch now that they have learned hes playing with mono?

*-> Toronto's blueliner Tomas Kaberle will miss at least one month with a broken bone in his hand. After taking a shot off his hand during a game agains't Colorado. Brian Burke must be sweating after this one because this will seriously effect his chances of being able to trade Kaberle before the deadline. Kaberle is after all one of Toronto's few players that would fetch some value. Anton Stralman was recalled from the Toronto Marlies to take his place on the backend.
*-> The Columbus dispatch has reported that youngstar Steve Mason of the Bluejackets is/has been battling mono for the part month. The team has issued a statment saying that they will continue to play the goalie until he is unable to play. Could Columbus be in the market for another goalie to give their youngster a break?
*-> Fabian Brunnstrum the much anticipated free agent signing late last season has been recalled from the Manitoba Moose back to the Dallas Stars today after only one game in the AHL. Rumors has it that this was a wake up call to the forward to see if they can try and get him playing after barely getting noticed this season.

Rumors has it that this was a wake up call to the forward to see if they can try and get him playing after barely getting noticed this season.
*-> Josh Gorges of the Montreal Canadians will be out a few games after that nasty head shot from Denis Gauthier Saturday afternoon. The Montreal brass has stated the injury is not due to the hit but another hit later on in the game after returning. Apparently he may be suffering from concussion like symptoms from the original hit. They say he should be back in action late this week, we'll see though how this progresses. Montreal has recalled Alex Henry and Ryan O'Bryne to replace him.

The I.R: Wednesday Evening -> Sillinger Out For Season
A few internet problems last couple of days doubled with bad weather but heres todays I.R...
*-> The New York Islander's veteran forward Mike Sillinger will miss the entire season after undergoing hip surgury Monday. The aging veteran has stated he intends on playing at least one more season with the Islanders before retiring.
*-> Goalie Olaf Kolzig of the Tampa Bay Lightning will miss the rest of the season with a ruptured tendon in his left bicep. He will undergo surgury this weekend and if successful he will miss atleast 4 months still. Although he has only played 8 games this season his presence will be missed. Kari Ramo will serve as Mike Smith's back-up for the rest of the season. Also expect to not see Olaf Kolzig in a Lighning jersey again as he's an unrestricted free agent this summer. Kami Ramo appears ready for the "show" so he'll most likely stay up.
*->Martin Gerber of the Ottawa Senators has been sent down to Binghamton after GM Bryan Murray could not find a decent suitor. He will finish the season out in the AHL unless Ottawa can find a dance partner. At this point it seams unlikely unless another team runs into goaltending issues or a deadline day deal. I'll have more on this later.
*-> Justin Pogge of the Toronto Maple Leaf's has been sent back down to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
*-> Dallas Star's Fabian Brunstrom has been loaned to the Manitoba Moose. The organization feels Brunstrom still needs some polishing to get to where he needs to be.

Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Part Two - Murphy On Waivers
*-Florida Panthers have placed defenseman Corey Murphy on waivers this evening. The Ottawa Senators are a likely source for the powerplay defenseman. They've been showing interest all season long in his abilities. Why not grab him for free? Another team that could be interested is the Montreal Canadiens who have been lost on the powerplay ever since Mark Streit left last summer. Bob Gainey was just complaining the other day about how his team lacks defensive depth as well. The final team that is rumoured to make a claim is the Dallas Star. Their looking to replace the loss of Phillipe Boucher and Sergei Zubov on the point still.

Saturday Afternoon New Hits + Corey Murphy?
Well I'd figure I'd get this one out while watching the Pittsburg/Ottawa game this afternoon. I don't know if anybody else was watching but they had curling on before and it ran late so they waited for curling to finnish. It was kind of a piss-off because curlings not exactly a main attraction sport and they've been pushing this afternoon game all week. They should have just split screened it but no we had to see each boring shot full screen. Oh well! Another slow day and nothing big going on but heres so fars new.
->Owen Nolan of the Minesota Wild has suffered an undisclosed upper body injury but is expected to miss atleast 2 weeks. I'll try and get more on this one as it comes.
->Yet another injury with Oilers Sam Gagner who suffered a mild concussion in Dallas Wednesday. The Oilers apparently are taking this very slow and don't expect him to be rushed back. My estimation is probably a week and a half.
->The final conclusion to the Sean Avery ordeal is in and the NHL has handed him a 6 game suspension. The Dallas Star's will not appeal the suspension but the NHLPA will. According to reports the NHLPA feels the suspension was a bit too harsh for a few selected words. Rumours have it that this season the NHL brass has had all eyes on Avery waiting for a moment like this to try and settle him down.
->The KHL has decided that they are going to try a familiar All-Star game format this year when they played their annual all-star game. On January 11th the game will be played outdoors in Moscow's Red Square in keeping with the outdoor game trend. The game's roster format has been chosen as well and will be a Russia vs the World format which is pretty interesting since alot of foreign players has now been lured to the KHL. Former Islander Alexei Yashin will be the team captain of the Russian side while a former Ranger Jaromir Jagr will captain the foreign teams squad. The rosters will be released mid-December. I'm personally excited for this one because I really do believe the KHL officials are playing this exactly how they should. Their marketing former NHL stars agains't their former league and using their name's which had been made popular in North America to stir a buzz and grab headlines in North America. Another interesting thing is that they are showing they can keep out with the lastest hockey fads by showing the NHL and North America that they arn't the only ones who can market an outdoor game. The KHL isn't budging, I truely believe this summer it could present another dangerous threat to the NHL. Especially if they expand to Europe like planned. I can wait to see how this is going to play out. Tomorow afternoon I will debut my Team Yashin (Russia) roster and who I expect to make the squad. There's alot of familiar faces, more than I expected. Tuesday I'll preview my prediction for Team Jagr and the Foreign side.

->Last little thing is that Corey Murphy noise is starting to happen. There are a few teams that are trying to make something happen with the Florida Panthers for the offensive specialist. Corey Murphy is an extremely talented offensive defenseman and clearly can work a power play. Although he's undersized and a bit injury prone a few teams who are desperate to get things started have shown interest. Two that I've heard are the powerplay struggling Montreal Canadians and the well just struggling Sens. Montreal loves these kind of players, with Mark Streit being gone and nothing clicking on the point he could easily be a good fit for an already talented line-up who needs someone to set-up Kovalev and Markov. Ottawa on the other hand has been just plan struggling and all season have been pushing for an offensive defenseman to replace Redden. Alexander Picard is a complete bust and Brendan Bell clearly isn't made to play at this level. Kuba's good but he needs help. This could be a good fit and I know Bryan Murray is ready to start shopping Antone Vermette a Jacques Martin favorite. Stay -tuned on this one.
Well that's it for now but a final comment to anyone who watches CBC broadcast games. Has anyone else noticed that P.J Stock can barely get a sentence together? I enjoy his commentary because he's been through the grind of the NHL and really knows the players sides but he sounds like a punch drunk boxer sometimes. Today he took about 3 minutes to say "Maxime Talbot knows what hes doing and know he has two players....". they should use him more to his strengths and use him for their rumours and breaking stories instead of trying to break the game down sentence by sentence or more like word by word.
