Ice Scoopz: Saturday noon

*-> Tomas Vokoun has not had any discussions with the Panthers yet about a new contract, Panthers management has said talks will start early this month with hopes of resigning Vokoun. It's still very unlikely the Panthers will resign Vokoun as he remains one of their biggest playing chips and could speed up their transition from non playoff team to playoff team. Vokoun has told the media time and time again that he'd be willing to waive his clause to help the Panthers. Everyone is still reporting that the Ottawa Senators are highly interested in Vokoun and now the Wings are interested as well. Like usual the Wasington Capitals are also rumored as are the Flyers which really doesn't make much sense.

*-> Despite my post this morning I'm now hearing Detroit is back in on the Ray Emery situation now as insurrence but would really rather have Nabokov back off the Isles. This Emery thing is starting to gain a lot of steam as of late and I'm still maintaining the 4 teams I think are realistic options are Islanders, Detroit, Wasington and odd team the San Jose Sharks.

*-> Florida GM Dale Tallon met with Montreal GM Pierre Gauthier this week furthering the speculation Montreal is in on Stephen Weiss. This comes a week later from the Canadiens scouts watching a New Jersey - Florida game. I've also heard whispers that Montreal may be interested in defenseman Bryan McCabe...

*-> The New Year Rangers have been scouting the Hersey Bears as of late, it's said the target is Sheldon Souray but the Oilers are still saying no-one is interested in Souray yet and no-one has contacted the team inregards to Souray.

Ice Scoopz: Saturday Morning

*-> With Rick DiPietro out for 6 weeks with his latest knee and facial injuries suffered against the Penguins the Islanders are looking for some help in net. Many are saying the Isles are going to make a major push for Ray Emery and make a one year offer sometime this weekend. There is no doubt the Islanders are goalie hunting as they are now limited down to one. This would enable the Isles to then deal Evgeni Nabokov back to the Detroit Red Wings. There is many other options other than Emery but the Isles have been linked from the start and also he is free to bring in other than salary and he also would not have to clear waivers which are both positives. The Isles could take a look at Michael Leighton of Philly, Mike Smith of Tampa Bay, Tomas Vokoun of Florida or Jose Theodore of Minnesota all of which are avaliable according to rumors.

*-> While talking about Ray Emery a new illogical rumor has come forth the past week linking "Sugar Ray" to the Flyers once again. I'm not buying it as why would the Flyers add yet another goalie to their fleet. The Ducks and Isles are still front running for Emery bt recently I have heard Calgary and Ottawa both mentioned. Both of which I'm doubting as the Flames would like to push Henrik Karlsson more and Ottawa is a different story all together.

More rumors including some more goalie tidbits around noon

Ice Scoopz: Thursday Afternoon

*-> It appears that Mike Smith has cleared waivers this morning and will be assigned to the AHL.

*-> Add Anaheim to the list of teams interested in "Sugar" Ray Emery. Several Anaheim based media outlets have confirmed that the Ducks are looking for an experienced backup in case things go wrong in the post season.

*-> Rick Dudley has told the Atlanta media that the Thrashers are looking to add 2 forwards and 1 defenseman. It's believed he's interested in a veteran center and an offensive catalyst. Ales Hemsky is the name being thrown around this morning. Dudley was also clear in stating he wouldn't give up future for a playoff run. Many are saying he'd like to move a roster player or two to add the pieces to the puzzle.

*-> The Minnesota Wild is reportedly showcasing Jose Theodore for a possible deadline day deal now that Anton Khubbodin is ready to return to his backup position.

*-> Steven Weiss appears to be staying put as GM Dale Tallon said he'd like to keep the young core while getting rid of any spare parts in the organization. Another key factor is that Weiss went on the record to tell the media he likes the Panthers organization and though missing the playoffs is wearing he still enjoys being part of the team and helping it move forward.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

*-> Zach Stortini has cleared waivers today, he's been assigned to Oklahoma of the AHL.

*-> According to reports Ottawa's Chris Neil is starting to attract some interest but the Sens are still on the fence about trading him. Chris Neil does a lot of charity work in Ottawa and is a fan favorite so GM Murray is undecided on whether or not to move Neil, the Sens also will need some players moving forwards in their rebuild which no-one in management has yet to acknowledge is happening. No word on yet who could be interested but it's rumored it's mostly Western Conference teams looking at the agitating winger. One would have to wonder if Zach Smith and his recent decent play could help to make Chris Neil expendable.

*-> Mike Smith is rumored to be on his way out, Tampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman is reportedly shopping the struggling goalie around the league while Smith is on the injured reserve. It's believed the Bolts will attempt to buy some time by sending Smith on a conditioning stint so that they can figure out a plan and try and get something for him. The Bolts may end up just waiving the goaltender if there isn't any bites soon.

*-> The returning Ray Emery has acknowledged that atleast 4 teams have called him so far and has said he expects to return to action before the end of the season. The Islanders, Red Wings, Capitals and Sharks are the usual suspects while the surprise teams are The Sens who may look to do Emery a favor by letting him back up Elliott for the remainder of the season to test out his hip at base salary. highly unlikely in my mind but hey the Sens do need a filler to play out the year and nobody knows Emery best than Ottawa.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Noon

*-> The Toronto Maple Leafs have resigned forward Mike Brown to a 3 year deal worth 2.21$ million overall.

*-> Those Toronto Maple Leaf rumors of Tomas Kaberle's agent Rick Curran meeting with GM Brian Burke later this week has proved to be untrue. The blueliner has not spoken to Burke inragrds to his no trade and nor as Burke spoken to Curran. Curran has also told the media Kaberle will not ask to waive his no trade or present a list to Burke and may not even if approached by Burke. It would be a wait and see situation to see if he'd be willing at the time. It's said Burke will still meet with Curran but both parties want to keep everything hush hush to avoid the situation they faced last season. Curran also said he doubts his client will resign with Toronto.

*-> Brian Burke has however reportedly been handed a trade to list provided by fellow defenseman Francois Beauchemin. The list is said to contain 12 teams of interest to Beauchemin. San Jose and Columbus are both interested.

*-> Ales Kotalik is attracting some interest from around the league despite the Oilers still not being sold on dealing the winger. The Pittsburgh Penguins have interest in Hemsky as they've been seeking a winger for Sid the Kid for quite some time. Off the chart rumors has the Florida Panthers possibly interested as well.

*-> Evgeni Kuznetsov is reportedly being wooed big time by his club Traktor as they've been trying to keep the Russian prospect in the KHL. The "Kuz" is said to be seaking a multi million dollar deal and his recent KHL All-Star game nomination could be a sign of the league attemptiong to make a big push. When reently asked if he would jump to the NHL he responded not too sure we'll see at the end of the season when his response after last years camp was I definately want to return to the NHL as it's a personal dream. The Capitals may have to get star sniper Alexander Ovechkin to make a call to try and sway the young star. Fellow Captial prospect Dmitri Orlov appears also unsure of a jump across the pond.

*-> In other KHL prospect news it appears that Vladimir Tarasenko may be the next Russian prospect to bolt to the US as he's reportedly told Sibir management he'd like to give the NHL a chance as long as it was in the show and not the AHL. Tarasenko is currently out for the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury so how that plays out to his arrival in St. Louis is unknown.

Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Morning

*-> Rumblings out of Calgary have the Flames thinking of making a splash to try and make a run for the playoffs this year. Reports have GM Feaster looking to add not subtract in the next few weeks and if playoffs seam like a long shot then a minor sale at the deadline, as they look to get some help for next season by selling off the extra pieces. Robin Regehr would be the Flames main bargaining chip as many teams are scrambling for his services. The Buffalo Sabres, Canadiens, Washington, Los Angeles and Detroit have all been linked. Anton Babchuk who is a free agent this summer could also be had for the right price. The Blue Jackets have had mild interest while the Rangers would love to add his point shot to the mix. Another intriging defenseman is Jay Bouwmeister who is said to be untouchable but maybe for the right offer he could be pryed from the Flames. New Jersey would be one of the teams interested.

*-> While on the Flames, Ales Kotalik is still being pushed around the league so far no takers however. The Flames may try to place him on re-entry waivers closer to the deadline.

*-> The Buffalo Sabre's are planning to unload lots of their veteran core before the trade deadline and work with the youth they have in the system after being impressed so far this season. Buffalo is expected to shop UFAs Mike Grier, Steve Montador and Rob Niedermayer. Captain Craig Rivet may also be up for grabs if the Sabres cant lock him in a deal shortly. The Sabre's arn't necessarly looking to rebuild be just add the right pieces to their young squad including a highend defenseman to help with the workload on the backend. Some are saying the often injured Tim Connolly could be playing his last games in Buffalo.

*-> Reports out of Toronto have GM Brian Burke meeting with Tomas Kaberle's agent late this week to discuss whether or not he'll wave his no trade clause. It appears the blueliner will but only has 4 teams in the Eastern Conference. The Sabre's and the Bruins are two teams that have been rumored as of late but I wouldn't count out the Rangers.

*-> The Edmonton Oilers have waived Zach Stortini and are expected to demote him to the AHL. So far not much for interest but I have seen the Canadiens as a possible destination so far.

That's it dfor now more in a bit including some KHL news on Evgeni Kuznetsov and Vladimir Tarasenko.
